Dearest Halifax Regional Police:

Why, oh why, do you deem it appropriate to flash your red and blues just so you can get through a red light faster or so you can make that illegal left turn? You snap those lights on, people scatter to get out of your way, you fly through the intersection only to kill your lights as soon as you hit the other side. Seriously? When did this become OK?

I observed this recently at the intersection of Nantucket and Wyse, where you can’t make a left turn at the bottom of Nantucket. Sure enough, Mr. Police snaps his lights on and guns it through the intersection. Same thing recently at North and Agricola.

The last time I checked none of us are allowed to make that illegal left. And newsflash: that also includes you. —Who is policing the police?

  1. They often do that when they’re on their way to an emergency call but they don’t flash lights and wail sirens the entire way.

  2. What Pavillion said — it happens all the time, completely normal

    also, it’s spelled “psyche” smarty

  3. Police, ambulances, etc don’t always keep their lights/sirens on when heading to a call. Would you rather the noise and flashing lights the entire way?

  4. So many of the police in Halifax are shady as the ground in the forest. There’s a few bright spots but mostly just dark and lacking vitamins. I’ve seen this numerous times in town as well as speeding cop cars without any lights or sirens. How is THAT legal? The police need to realize that they need to follow the rules of the road or THEY will kill people due to reckless driving. It’s happened before. The police should not be above the law. Who does police the police?

  5. BT, anything to back up that statement. Any evidence? Or you just think that.

I’ve gone to many calls without emergency equipment on. reasons being a. at night when people are sleeping, you do your best not to wake them, b. you turn them off prior to arrival so the perpetrators don’t see/hear you coming, and c. sometimes you are taken off the call so the equipment is deactivated.

Again, if you have any concerns, get the car number or plate number and call it in.
