I like to go at the Emera Oval to skate. I’m a good and fast skater—I think, anyway. How many times do I have to go around the slow skaters on the inside line who are reserved for fast skater and not for beginners and red gliders? How many times have I seen safety people skate by and don’t mention anything to them? A lot of time they just chatted along and don’t bother. Accidents will happen soon. Kids with red gliders fall in front of you. Parents should be more responsible and keep their kids on the outside lane if they are slow or with gliders. Teenagers skate slowly and flirt. Stay away from the fast lane too. Please and thank you! —BG

I would suggest taking your skating to the Bras d’Or lakes to get the proper room you need, Speedy.
Track problems, I hear ya. Check out the Dartmouth Sportsplex during a kids hockey game. You’d think the indoor track had turned into a daycare! The security/administrators don’t give two hoots there either.
Run the fuckers down! Take out an artery or two! Or fuck off…
you clearly need to become a fast lane nag
“seen” the safety people but not, ‘spoken’ to the safety people.
get thy head out of thy arse and be proactive instead of a little bitch!
I’m by no means a fast skater but I like to keep moving at a normal pace and I don’t want to crash into some kid. I find it annoying to have to tell adults looking at their phones, supermammas side be side chatting and slowly pushing their spawn, kids learning to skate under the watchful gaze of a a parent, and other slow-moving obstacles to stick to the outside like the signs clearly say – but I tell them anyway. The entitled parents give me a dirty look but to heck with them.
I hate to tell you this, but if Mothercare and all the baby brain that comes along with it gets on your nerves you’re kinda screwed in Halifax. That same “my kids come first” attitude applies to every corner of the HRM…there’s no escaping it – the place is geared toward 2 or more kids, 2 or more dogs, one McMansion and “X” number of vehicles, “X” number of smart phones and ZERO give-a-shits about anyone but themselves or even any understanding of why they should.
Those are the people who pay the vast majority of the taxes and Halifax will continue to be designed for primarily that demographic because there just aren’t enough of everyone else. They know that…and they will invade every crevice of this silly little port town that they possibly can day or night whether they should or not, bringing along with them all the loud, obnoxious, mothercare vernacular they use in their own home leaving you with zero adult time in public.
The solution? None. I mean I totally get where you’re coming from and it makes me absolutely cringe but there isn’t one single thing you can do about it…so you’re either going to have to slow down on that ice or not go there at all.
^^ “Mothercare and all the baby brain that comes along with it” HaHa! I hear you but I will continue to resist and tell them to check their entitlement… dirty looks be damned!
Haha! Not sure why anyone skates fast at the oval!
It’s always jam packed with people on a good day!
It’s the OVAL!
