Ei-EI-go
I have a university degree and more than 10 years experience in my field. I left all my jobs on good terms. I am willing to work shiftwork; I don’t have unreasonable salary expectations. But I’ve been unemployed for almost a year, my EI is about to run o

Let me guess, you have a Bachelor of Arts with a major in history or something else equally useless. Grow a brain, get a real degree
No. Actually, I have a Bachelor of Science (honours) with a math major and a physics minor. I have 13 years experience as a laboratory technician in universities, industry, and private research. I spent four years working in a highly specialized area of biotechnology that has since gone more or less tits up. So Fuck Off, Jane.
Dear CoyoteYou’re the right guy in the wrong province. Have you tried Ottawa or Vancouver?
bj:I would leave Nova Scotia in a heartbeat, if it wasn’t for the fact that I have kids whose other parent, as well as all their extended family, is here. I thought this was the best place to raise kids, and I still think that, except I’m having a hell of a time supporting them.
zzzzzing on Jane. I hope things work out for you Coyote.
I know it is no conselation, but rest assured you ar not alone. I am a thirty something with extensive but very specific work experience in the field of commercial satellites. Although I have adaptable skill sets and I am very available; everybody wants someone with no experience or with their specific industry experience. I am tired of people telling me yo have an impressive resume and experience and you seem like a good person you should not have any troubles. Then why am I?
Jane’s right though in her assertion that a BA gets you nowhere on its own. I have a BA in history and fully realised I had to get another degree to get a decent job. Other BA friends of mine are having a hell of a lot of trouble finding non-call centre work, so she has a point there — if you’re not going to further your education beyond a BA prepare to answer phones all day.On that note, COyote, it’s really a shame you can’t find work! I think bj is right — right education/experience, wrong province 🙁 Hope something comes along soon!
I understand exactly what you’re saying, but do yourself a favour and move anywhere, ANYWHERE, but Alberta – there are jobs in other provinces, without the insane traffic problems, unpredictable cost of living increases, terrible customer service, and utter lack of public services and regulation. It’s not worth it.
