I was watching the news and the top story was about a man who was recently swarmed and brutally beaten by five males in Highfield Park. Did anyone else see this story? I say “males” and not “men” because five on one is incredibly cowardly. This victim of this brutal assault had to have facial reconstruction surgery and was a mess.
He was lamenting that he didn’t feel police were doing enough to catch these thugs.
I have to say I agree, as I remember reading about this after it was originally reported last week and later watched the report on the evening news, and remarked at the time that there weren’t any descriptions given for these “walking pieces of garbage.”
Did these thugs have absolutely no physical description?
HRP are always asking for the public’s help to solve violent crimes yet when it comes to providing the very same public with vital information, perhaps giving somebody a “heads-up” of what to look out for so as maybe not to not unwittingly fall into a similar situation…they completely fail.
Is this responsible policing worthy of our tax paying dollars?
Shouldn’t we have the right to know the physical descriptions?
It’s not hard to see how HRP still haven’t solved a murder in that same area of town from a few years back…and most likely never will.
Not to mention the inordinately large number of other unsolved murders in the HRM.
From time to time we’re told through local media spin that Halifax is a relatively safe city, and statistics are provided to prove it.
If this is true, I would say it has more to do with luck or that the bad guys are already inside than good policing or any “minor deterrent” that the courts might hand out.

5 Males, aged 18 to 25. Ranging from Black to White, dressed in jeans and hoodies/jersies. You see the problem there right? The person was jumped at night, correct? Two factors, plus a shit-kicking, that makes identification incredibly difficult.
I’ve lived in Highfield park, and when the police gave descriptions of crime suspects, I would see at least 10 people in a weeks span that fit the profile exactly.
the real problem here, is that there are not enough cops on the beat anymore. years ago, they had the feet on the ground, in all kinds of weather. today, they are afraid to get a little damp on them. another problem too is the funding for more cops. hrm in all it’s glory, bit off a lot more than they could manage with amalgamation of the outlying areas.
sure there were the usual shitheads back then, but it was never as bad as now. and the hell’s angels also help keep these little pieces of shit in check. now, fuck me, just about every 5th. house is a crack house or home to a dope dealer. and we won’t even go there about guns. but if we did, i still say let the people arm themselves, to even out the scene. if the little hoods thought someone had a weaponn on them, that would cut down on swarmings, robberies, and even sex crimes.
but hey, most people are too fucking chicken to carry a weapon nowadays, and even if they did, it would be some pussy little kind of thing. if you are outside your home, and getting thumped, i just bet that you would wish to fuck for something to help defend yourself with. yeah, i know, wishful thinking, and yeah, a gun is extreme. but you tell me then, what the fuck deters them, nothing. the courts will give them a tap on wrist, and tell them not to do it again, or not to get caught next time. where and fucking when does it stop. i hope to fuck, that one of these high horse fucking polititions get swarmed or robbed or what the fuck ever. bet you then that there would be a lot of changes in how many are nailed. and i bet the time served will be a fuck lot more than court appearences. I’m not a cop nor am I defending the HRPD but the answer to your question seems to be pretty simple, OB.
If you read, you’ll notice that, although they were in the area, the police were not present when the assault took place so, they didn’t see the attackers.
They saw a group of area residents come to this gentleman’s aid but, again, “He was already on the ground and being beaten when neighbors noticed the attack in progress from their homes.” After questioning, none of the residents were able to provide a useful description, (hence the uncertainty of whether it was 6 or 7 people involved), because: A)It was 1 AM, hence dark; B)It was foggy, hence reduced visibility, and; C)They were a distance away, hence too far to determine details/descriptions. Now, I don’t know if the victim was able to provide any type of descriptions to the police, I haven’t seen anything saying that he had. So, if that’s the case, the police can’t go public with a description because they don’t have one and it’s going to take longer to try and determine who these pieces of shit are because of that.

Yes I would advise a self-defense class, especially for people living in the more crime oriented neighborhoods. I’ve taken Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, it provides you with enough to disarm and discourage would-be attackers. Not going out by yourself at 1:00am helps too.
What you’re advising will result in more death. Not a solution to the problem. You’re over reacting to a problem that has much simpler solutions than giving everyone the means to murder.

It’s impossible to convict with vague descriptions and no evidence. Unless someone comes forward there is little chance of charges ever being laid. Further it is quite possible they do know (as they most likely know who have committed the murders here) but without the evidence they can’t lay the charges.
