To my idiot manager (of a certain Halifax Hotel) who thinks she can push her banquet staff around and threaten us with “a private meeting”… Get over your power trip and start doing your job properly!
There is more to managing than flitting around erratically with a cell-phone held to one ear, while randomly giving us orders (when we are already on a task).
Most of your servers are sick of you lying and sticking your head in the sand when there is a problem – concerning schedule issues, event planning, etc…
The clients have nothing but praise for our serving skills and friendly demeanor, yet you ignore all this and keep us working long hours without so much as “Thanks for your help”.
Hospitality has many good jobs (including this one), but you are starting to ruin the enjoyment fof it…
You know many of your staff has put in numerous complaints against you (both directly to you and to upper management)…yet you treat each complaint like it’s the first you have ever heard…
We know you are lying when you tell us “you are the first to bring this up” or “the other staff does not like your attitude”… Way to divert blame!
Instead of avoiding the problems, start doing your job of MANAGING instead of making money on the hard work of others!
We all still wonder why you have lasted this long without being replaced!

If there are so many people upset about this person then as a group, then complain not as individuals but as a group. This forces them to realize that they have a problem that is not going to be fixed by replacing a few replaceable (sorry not meant as a slight) banquet staff. Make sure you do this before a major event but don’t make them feel like this is a do it or else situation…just that things are not as they have been told they are and that it needs to be addressed differently than it has been up to this point.
They tried. I don’t think their complaints get past that particular department. I think the complaints never go out, and i believe that particular person would actually be fired if those complaints go out. So i believe that that particular manager actually does his/her best to prevent those complaints from escaping.
Then take it to the next level…the one I suggested NOT to do in my earlier post below…make it a do it or else kind of situation as a group right before a major event. Threaten to do a mass walk-off, there are still some protections provided under the labor-code for these kinds of situations even when you are not unionized.
