To all of you Lovely Dog Owners who insist on bringing your dogs (big and small) into my place of employment; do not try to explain to me how hot your car is when so try to advise you that your four legged friend is not welcome in our store. I’m not the one who chose to take my dog out when I knew I was going shopping! Also, I don’t care if your dog has never bitten anyone. That’s what every dog owners says until it happens! —Sincerely Girl In Orange

  1. All the time I spent in retail, I never had a fraction of trouble with dogs as I had with uncontrolled kids and their blithely oblivious parents. That being said, it’s up to the store to set their policies and if the customer doesn’t want to abide they can jog on. Using the “I can’t leave him in a hot car” gambit after having made the conscious decision to bring him with you is cheap manipulative bullroar at it’s worst. So, OP wins this bout on points.

Still prefer dogs to kids, though. Roooooooooo!

  2. Since you are an employee and not the owner of said business, you did the right thing, OP.

  3. Excellent bitch.

No Meaty, if you are going shopping or somewhere else for a while, do your pet a favour and leave them home.

  4. You know, I remember this crazy day and age when human beings got as much respect as animals and/or pets, crazy right!? From what I can recall, while pets may be as noisy, messy, rude etc as any small child, that was not really the reason why most places had a no pets allowed policy. While those were contributing factors, the majority of the reason was due to not knowing if a customer that is allergic to said pet, may come into the store to shop.

I’m not surprised this person felt entitled to bring their dog in, as the majority of society no longer respects those signs/rules at places of business, along with the no shoes/shirt no service, and other various rules stores no longer really enforce, even though the signage is still up. Hell, nobody even brought up the allergy argument until now, which is telling to say the least. Who cares that a human beings allergies might flair up or they may have a severe reaction, and to hell with the no dogs allowed sign…little buster just had to come shopping with me and it is TOO HOT to leave them in the car, so whatever am I to do? *facepalm*

  5. You know, I vaguely remember a time when human beings were worthy of the same respect as animals and/or pets. Or perhaps it was just something that my Mother taught me, before life and experience disproved that utopian suggestion >; )

I’m not sure , but I think that attitudes to animals in public places vary among cultures and traditions. In Germany, it is very common to see dogs lolling under tables in gasthofs and restaurants. I think the North American model was based more on concerns about hygiene, rather than allergens. Allergies are a fairly new threat, comparatively speaking that only came about after Skynet successfully implanted Artificial Intelligence in a peanut.

We see now, the category of “service animals” being expanded faster than legislation and policy can adapt and the line between them and “therapy animals” being increasingly blurred. While a large part of the increasing body of knowledge is legitimate, there will always be those who through narcissism or sense of entitlement or sheer obliviousness will attempt to manipulate circumstances to their own favor. In time, no doubt, the Paris Hiltons of the world will claim the teacup chihuahua handbag accessory (or whatever genetically modified monstrosity replaces it) as a necessary mechanism for coping with the existential stresses of not having to work for a living and choosing how much blow to do, or who to blow.

(Jeesuz boys, didja see that. Ivan sounding almost like a commie)

Animals are blameless; it’s people that suck.

  6. buddy was an idiot for trying to manipulate the employee by crying about leaving his dog in a hot car. he should not have had the dog with him in the first place unless you KNOW you can take him in with you. but what dog enjoys shopping? I doubt even paris Hiltons poor shiverin wee beastie liked it.

leave the dogs at home unless you are going somewhere for the dog. think of the lovely greeting you get when you get home.

  7. Why do people think they have to take their dog, or ugly kid, everywhere they go? Mutts don’t need babysitters.

  8. Who does that? Leave your dog at home or go shopping with a friend so you can take turns waiting outside with the pooch. Bring water. If your dog has separation anxiety then you need to put some extra effort into planning your errands. Only go into stores that clearly advertise themselves as “dog friendly”. Don’t make assumptions as not everyone likes animals. These are basic rules that anyone with an inkling of common sense should be able to understand.

  9. @Ivan, listen, I HATE, wait rather I LOATHE most of the general population, but my sense of morals has always told me that a human life is worth more then an animals. Now we could go down the meta exinstential highway of philsophy and try and reason out why this is, but I am firm in my opinion on this matter. The crazy part is, I like animals more then I like humans! But I am still able to reconcile that with the fact that a human life is worth more then an animals, in a general abstract way. Obviously the service dog that helps the blind is of more value then the convicted rapist felon, but I am speaking in generalities and not specific hypotheticals. If we can’t, with reason and logic, agree on the state of the hierarchy of the animal kingdom (value of life based on level on food chain, eg are we really going to say a beetle or cricket has as much value in its life, as a horse, cow, dog etc?), then hopefully all the animal lovers are right, and all human beings perish and then the animals can roam TRULY FREE and not as adored pets, or in a zoo, or circus, or safari, or wild life park, or amusement park, or shelters for abandoned and abused pets. I mean, if an animal is going to be happiest in it’s natural state and habitat, wouldn’t it be cruel to wish for anything else regarding the future of the world? Us stupid, meaningless, mainly unlawful, entitled humans without much worth, keep messing up the enviorenment and domesticating animals that do not want to leave the wild, so for all intents and purposes the world would be a better place if we all just died. As a matter of fact, I reverse my position and the dog should have been allowed in, fuck the rules, it was just some stupid human idea to make that rule and probably just so things were easy and more convenient as I have no doubt the person that originally made it was probably lazy like most humans. Sorry for the snark, I ate shit for breakfest instead of Wheaties 🙁

  10. @Painy: Those other puppies can’t deny/when a mutt plods up with a furry furry waist and sticks his wet nose in my face I get sprung…….lol

  11. Nowt wrong with snark, Uncreative. It fuels some damned good ranting hereabouts. And the truth is, for all my inveighing about the sanctity of animals, I eat them by the trailer load and for all my dismissal of humanity, I’ve got a few good friends and legions of people I admire. So, I side with the OP, whether she is the owner of the business or just a minion. It’s their call to make. If I had a business it would be dog friendly. Kids would have to demonstrate proof of being civilized >; )

  12. petition is circulating about the off leash fines happening at long lake. pls sign if you’ve a mind to.
