I fucking hate my dry skin so much. I never used to get it. What’s a manly cream? My elbows are dry, my knees and all these itchy dry spots. My family doctor at the walk-in clinic said try the over-the-counter kind. I don’t think I can say the name but it’s crap, total crap. -Not A Crocodile Yet

Take shorter not hot showers and go get some vitamin E cream (skin uses it speeed up the healing process) i like the webber brand myself and it can be found in your local drug marts!
Are you sure it’s not psoriasis? It can be aggravated by dry conditions, but won’t be treated with simple moisturizing lotion. The only reason I mention it is because it is prone to develop near your joints as you’ve mentioned and is often mistaken for dry skin.
I hear oatmeal baths work well, but if it is psoriasis you may want to see a dermatologist or, at the very least, get some prescription cream from you doc at the walk-in clinic.
Coconut oil.
coconut oil is great, you can also go to the pharmacist and ask for eucerin
Coconut oil keeps me looking young. Or maybe that’s genetic. But coconut oil is cheap, and works well on dry skin. I had dry elbows for years, and 2 weeks of CO and I was back to normal.
You can try mineral oil. It’s cheap and you can apply it in the shower before getting out while your skin is still damp. Works great.
I like manly cream.
WTF do you mean “manly cream”? Lubriderm – unscented… FFS!
jhey, I swear by coconut oil too! It gives me a gorgeous complexion. Not a wrinkle in sight either, and it’s great as hair conditioner, just shampoo after so it’s not greasy.
Try this British fix

no_foll,
It’s amazing stuff too. I love to cook with the no flavor stuff – but nothing beats duck fat for searing.
Maybe try duck fat? lol. I’ll stick to coconut oil for skin.
I use Nivea for Men. It’s alright, but I don’t have overly dry skin, so I barely have to use it. I’ve been told stuff with shae butter works well.
That’s a manly creme alright, Basil!
I find the best creams/lotions for dry skin aren’t oil-based, they’re either silicone or water-based.
I really like unscented herbacin. My hands get horribly dry in the winter and that works best.
Also, exfoliating is a MUST when you have dry skin. You can make a simple sugar scrub out of some lemon juice, sugar and a tad bit of olive oil and slather yourself with it in the shower. And at night, put on a BHA exfoliator (such as nutrogenia’s acne BHA gel). If that’s drying you out even further, try an AHA — you can order alpha hydroxies online. Don’t let the fact that these products (the BHA, anyway) is for acne. They are exfoliants that will remove the layers of dead, flakey skin, which is basically why skin gets dry: it’s lost its ability to properly exfoliate itself.
You can get Eucerin for decent price at Costco….will take all those dry spots and itchness away!!!
Mix coconut oil and melted beeswax in a pot. Add a lil vitamin E. Pour it into something. Voila. Bomb ass balm. Works anywhere on the ol’ epi-whatever.
“I swear by coconut oil… Not a wrinkle in sight” – Lolz, Montrealman must use that stuff on his brain.
OB – Glaxal Base, available at Costco in the 1L size for about $14.00
http://glaxalbase.com/
It’s the base that is used to make other moisturizers, and it’s the only cream that I use.
