Every day on the old bridge I see these rednecks who think they gaining time by speeding up the left lane then cutting off whoever they please into the right lane at rush hour. But they do not realize there is a sign that says ” Stay in Lane ” meaning its illegal to change lanes on the bridge.
90% of all accidents on the bridges are caused by these people. This not also rude its disrupts the flow of traffic on both lanes. Consider get out bed earlier if you want to get to work on time. —Cannot Believe how people drive on the Bridge

What really gets me is that there are at least three sites in the harbour that have been filled. Who authorised that? This is Halifax. We have a harbour, not much else.
Yeah, lets fill it in! Great idea! Fuck the people, only the property owners need reap the profits. It’s not their land. (Oh yes it is.)
It is kinda moot I guess as it will all be under water within 100 years. Such short-sightedness.
I have never noticed the “stay in lane” sign. lol But I usually stay in the same lane anyway.
What sites in the harbour are you talking about oldhand? I am kind of new to the city and don’t know much about the history.
I almost wrote the exact same bitch after crossing the bridge at rush hour yesterday! Buddy worked so hard to get juuuust in front of me, accomplished his goal right before the toll booth, and then didn’t have his change ready so I had to wait close to a minute for him to get it…which is a long time at the toll booths, especially during rush hour. OP, I wonder if you and I were angry at the same people…
These p-ass-ers don’t even get far ahead. Usually I catch up to them by the time I reach the toll booth! I love looking over and seeing their reaction when they *know* they pulled a jackass move and it didn’t get them anywhere. I’m glad I only have to cross the bridges during rush hour once in a blue moon.
Bridge traffic is usually like the opening scene of Office Space.
if you stopped gawking over the edges of the bridge and paid attention to the drivers around you, there would be no issue of any accident of any kind on either bridge that crosses the harbour… there problem solved
sight seeing is for passengers only, thank you mr. boot
hasn’t anyone learned yet that if spome asshole cuts in to another lane, then you get them pushed to the side, and maybe over the side of the bridge. or you just could let them do whatever the hell they want.
Don’t let them into your lane. I can smell these asshats a mile away. One place I love to block these fucktards out is on the way to the MacKay Bridge coming from the Windsor St Exchange. They’ll try to get ahead of everybody by speeding up in the lane meant to go to Barrington St and will cut in at the last second to get on the bridge. I blocked one guy out and boy was he pissed. Made my day
Where did you get the statistic that says 90% of the accidents on the bridge are caused by drivers switching lanes? If you speak to the Bridge Commission they will tell you the majority of accidents are caused by inattentive drivers and rear-end collisions (tail-gating). Who cares if drivers switch lanes…just leave enough distance between the car in front of you and your car and you’ll have nothing to worry about. Traffic delays are also caused by suicidal jumpers from the bridge, which you will notice when traffic gets diverted to one lane and there are cops cars with lights flashing on the span.
The accidents that are caused by rear-ended are caused by red necks who switch lanes and make people to brake suddenly
This is certainly a problem coming across during rush hour in the evening. I’ve been cut off more times than I can count. What also frustrates the fuck out of me are the assholes that cut across 3 lanes to get to an empty toll.
The problem with the MacD bridge in the afternoon rush is that the lanes are all screwed up. Probably 90% of the Dartmouth-bound traffic is not turning left after the tolls. The “stay in lane” signs mean by logical extension that 90% of the bridge traffic is supposed to be confined to the right lane, since if you are in the left lane you are pretty much forced to take the one toll gate that is for left turns. Gimme a break, that is just dumb, and is the reason why that lane gets so backed-up. Then add to that the screwed-up traffic lights past the tolls that causes a backup onto the bridge in the left lane, and a too-narrow funnel area at the end of the bridge prior to the toll area, and you have both lanes completed clogged. Most of the accidents I see are rear-enders from people who are forced to come to a sudden stop when the lanes back up onto the bridge due to poor design at the toll plaza.
The most efficient way to cross at such times is to take the left lane most of the way across and them move into a gap in the right lane. Can’t blame people for doing that. You can blame the traffic engineers and bridge commish management for instituting such a dumbass system with no lane discipline at the tolls, people in the right lane being allowed to dart all over the place into whatever tollgate they desire, poorly-timed traffic lights, etc. Why someone in the right lane thinks they are entitled to use a tollgate on the left completely escapes me.
76% of statistics are made up on the spot…43% of the time.
“stay in lane” means don’t ride too close to/on the lane markers because the lanes aren’t very wide. You can still change lanes just fine, on both bridges, legally. As long as you stay within the lines once you get there.
I don’t care about lane changers on the old bridge, so long as they do it safely and smartly, which most don’t. Notice how I avoided using a percentage there? Most works very well. 🙂
As for the idiots that cause accidents on the bridge, there should be trap doors that open up under them and their car and drops them straight into the harbour. Problem solved.
