What’s with the latest trend on HRM streets that when a car appoaches a parked vehicle in their lane, they feel they have the God given right to pull out into coming traffic to go around it. It doesnt matter that there is traffic approaching, no signal, no warning, just out and round WTF!!? They must be so important to just disregard rules of the road and safety to get to a starbucks or some sale at a freaking mall. Of course when you respond with a horn or the schreeching of tires to avoid said assholes, you get a look from the self entitled boods which says get the fuck out of my way! Some day I wish I drove a tank!! You know your out there, now wake the hell up and drive

  1. There is also the issue of people not knowing how wide their vehicle really is. I drive a large commercial vehicle and am shocked at how many just about shit themselves as I come towards them… I know how much room I need to squeeze between cars on the road but its the drivers who think they need to be 6 feet away from the curb, encroaching on the oncoming traffic. A good example is downtown Portand St. where street lines aren’t common so people drive up the centre of the road.

So people, if your vehicle fits in a normal parking spot width, there is no need to triple that distance when actually driving. Learn the size of the vehicle!

  2. there are a few words that come to mind here, douchbag, idiot, jerk, and my favourite, suicidal.

  3. yeah, ngf, maybe theirs does. so why the hell should they be a complete shithead about risking other people health.

  4. I agree. Buy a 78 Lincoln and bounce their ass into the weeds. That’s what I’m going to do someday.

  5. smash into the cock suckers, then collect the insurance and sue the pants off them!! its illegal to cross over any solid yellow line on the road, they would be 100% at fault!!

  6. VOR…I see your point, and that’s not what I’m talking about. I know how much space i need around my vehicle. Regardless how much space I need…I’m entitled to all the space in my lane! If you have to cross the center line to maneuver around a parked car, and traffic is approaching…you need to yield!! Marking on the roads or not. You have no right of way left of the center line

  7. There are some street in halifax though, where people are parked on both sides of the street leaving barely enough room for two cars down the middle, if that (I’m thinking about Allan street behind the Quinpool Center). It annoys me when I am already proceeding down that street to Windsor, forced to cross the middle line, then someone turns off Windsor, and enters the gauntlet of cars rather than waiting for me to exit first. Then we are both forced to slow to a crawl and either just barely miss each other or we struggle to find a place where one of us can pull over a few extra inches to make room.

I understand this is not quite what you are talking about Hardtail…but I find sometimes drivers are in such a hurry to claim their right-of-way they forget about courtesy and safety.

But overall, I think I agree with VoR that a lot of people don’t realize how wide their car is and how close they can get to something without actually hitting it. Just look at how many parked cars are too far from the curb….or riding up on it for that matter. If those drivers feel the need to hug or cross the yellow line to avoid scraping up MY parked car, I’ll let them cross into my lane a little while driving. All you have to do is slow down until they get around the parked vehicles, or cyclist or whatever.

  8. Brunswick is bad for that too Miles (cars parked on both sides). I find most streets are actually wide enough to accomodate both the parked car and the car going around it though. Drivers for some reason just like to give themselves way too much room when going around.
