It happens too often, the driver doesn’t open the back door. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF THE BELL WAS RUNG, you’re at a stop, open the back doors. Even when I have rung the bell, the driver just isn’t aware that I’m at the back door. The new longer buses make it impossible to yell to the driver. Maybe the driver has been sitting too long and his brain has gone numb, but I’m not pushing my way through the crowd to leave by the front door. I’m getting a whistle to use to get the driver’s attention. I’m going to pass them out at major bus stops with an instruction sheet. —Taken Captive by a Bus Driver

  1. I am not saying you are one of them but many, many people or humans or morons, whatever you want to call them will not read the sign that says ‘WAIT FOR GREEN LIGHT, THEN WAVE HAND’ They will push the door, they will sometimes punch the door, yell at the bus driver all because they won’t or can’t read the sign it is so simple, I have never once fucked this up. it annoys me so much that i often will get up and wave for them or tell them to wave. On older buses however sometimes you do need to tell the bus driver to open the back door, they are humans as well . It is very easy to be asserive at yell up so that the bus driver can hear you . don’t whisper it “back door”. Yell it “BACK DOOR PLEASE” , then he will see you and open it, and as you leave you say” Thank you “

  2. Ring the fucking bell.

I can see getting pissed off if you ring the bell and the door isn’t opened (which happens to me all the fucking time), but to not ring the bell and then get pissy at the driver is just a dick move.

  3. “DRIVER, BACK DOOR”. – hmmmmm, Sebastabitch never takes the bus.
ERROR, ERROR – DOES NOT COMPUTE!

  4. Yeah, it annoys the hell out of me when someone yells “BACK DOOR” when they did not ring the bell. If I’m up front handing out transfers, answering questions etc… I do not know what’s going on in the back of the bus. Athough I am now in the habit of looking up in the mirror before I open the front door to let people on to see if anyone is going to bail out.

The one thing I get a kick of are the people who start heaving and pushing at the back door before the bus comes to a stop and the green light opens. Honestly if I did not set the back door to driver control I could see people never getting off the bus because they never seem to read the instructions on those stickers 😛

  5. I’m all for catapults on buses, make it so Sebastian_!

Onto the bitch at hand. Most drivers on long buses set the doors to user controlled. That means wave hand to open, not kick, scream, cuss, punch, bull rush, cast spell, moon, or give up on the door. Whether or not someone wants out, setting the green light to on is just force of habit for most of us.

On regular low floor buses however, we find it easier and less confusing to manually operate the back door. It’s also a waste of time to open the back door if noone’s getting out because there’s a safety delay before they’ll close again. Thus, no ring, no open back door.

On the older buses, since they’re user activated step down and lack safety features, I release them at every stop.

If we forget, just yell “BACK DOOR!”. Also, ringing the bell helps.

  6. OP we set these to user control because when we make a stop and open the front door people get on, I have to watch what these people are doing as they get on, check their money/ticket, check their pass, hand out transfers and answer questions. You yelling back door not only interupts what I am doing but annoys other passengers, next time read what the door says, if the light is green wave you hand, and if the light is not on, sorry I either a) didn’t hear the bell or b) you didn’t ring it.

  7. Yes new bus wave hand once it not star trek wait 1 or 2 sec older bus step down pressure plate on floor opens door If that don’t work push door open but first look at green light that means driver done his part so do your use your brain and if all else fails read instruction on the door I wonder who dresses these people in the morning still mom and yes sometime we can make a mistake but if you don’t ring the bell We can’t read minds if you have one sorry to ruin your day
