My near-miss of being struck by a car while crossing a pedestrian lane on a 4-way stop last evening had me shook for the rest of the night. Mostly because of MY anger AND frustration to the driver. Please apply your “killer instinct” elsewhere and not behind the wheel. —Crichton ave and Hawthorne st, Dartmouth @ 830pm

  1. (1) There is no 4 way stop anywhere near that intersection.
    (2) There IS an overhead pedestrian light. Did you push the button? And wait for it to activate?

  2. If you don’t make eye contact with the driver or raise your arm to signal your intention to cross, you’re fair game.

  3. i like to call pedestrians ‘the walking dead’ because they walk around with their heads in the internet cloud. You should pay more attention to your surroundings because more and more drivers are just as bad as you.

  4. That 3 way stop is a nightmare. Many distracted grannies rolling through the stop at light speed looking one way, headed the other.

Its nothing to get worked up about though. Just do what the rest of us do and head down to the pond and kick the crap out of one of those rotten geese.

  5. Get their license plates if you can and call the police. Getting a call from the police may be a bit of a wakeup call for those drivers.

  6. So many idiots in HRM that even the pedestrians are crashing into things. If you think 4 way stops are confusing these idiots, you should see how fucked they are at a 3 way stop lol
How about cross the fucking street when there is nothing coming or pick a safer place to cross. OB just like the other idiots walking the streets of Halifax thinks getting hit by cars doesn’t hurt and drivers should be mind readers.
    Fucking City morons!

  7. I suppose you were wearing bright coloured clothing, thinking about your personal safety first, and did everything in your power to make yourself and your intentions obvious, right? With sunset being at 4:47pm, pedestrians are going to have to step up their visability game. Only you can make sure a driver sees you, and it’s probably in your best interest to do just that.

  8. I agree with Poprah, I am a pedestrian and I see way too many people out walking dressed in dark colored pants and jackets. Exactly how is a driver supposed to make people out when they dress like that after dark?! On the other hand there are too many drivers in this city that seem to suffer from frozen neck syndrome and refuse to look anywhere but straight ahead. So yeah, both sides need to do their part.

  9. You just proved there is no such thing as a car-pedestrian accident (regardless of who is fault) that cannot be prevented…by the pedestrian.

    The opposite is not true…

  10. I see pedestrian crossing that are lit up so much that it is almost blinding. And, I hope they keep the drivers alert

because I am also seeing pedestrians that are a walking black shadow….the absence of light and color combined with movement is the only indicator that they are there.

  11. I wonder if we could start a new trend….how can we make reflective clothing ‘cool’ to wear?

The road crews have embraced it. Too bad, pedestrians don’t.

  12. As soon as OB mentioned “4-way stop”, I did not need to read further. Your talking about the worst drivers in Canada where even a 3-way stop is as confusing as rocket science. In a place where “YIELD” somehow means “merge” as well. Nova Scotia drivers suck balls and the worst of em congregate in HRM.
Now you know why you almost got killed at a 4-way stop in Halifax LMAO!!!

  13. @babyfish-Exactly and still confusing as fuck for the HRM drivers and pedestrians. A town of idiots being run by certified idiots.

  14. No Tim, of course they didn’t “wait for no cars coming”. The world revolves around them only and they are entitled to walk out on to any street without any consequences in mind. Welcome Halifux Tim, land of idiots.
