More of a general question than a bitch.. But I gotta ask. WHAT is that god forsaken smell coming from the gas station on Robie and North?
I drive by almost every day on the bus, and almost every day I hear someone say “I smell burnt toast”. It’s not burnt toast!! It’s some sort of chemical warfare reeking from car engines and assaulting our olfactories. Seriously? WHY does it smell like toast?! —Heathro

Its the beans being roasted at Java Blend.
What Cranky just said. The smell is not pleasant, but the resulting coffee is! 🙂
this is a very common bitch/query we should put in in the handbook
Doesn’t roasted coffee smell like roasted chestnuts?
Sorry, I’ve never seen this bitch on here before.
If it truly is the roasting coffee beans, than I can fully inhale instead of holding my breath in fear of inhaling noxious substances. Thanks!
It really is toxic chemicals that you smell. The “burnt toast” is just the induced strokes.
I hear rain.
if you combine it with the brewery and crematorium it’s quite heady^^
might be the smell of fish charring or smoking. i used to get a good whiff to, til i learned to keep windows up going past there. try it sometime, oh, and it’s only for a couple of minutes. you’re big and strong o.p., you can handle that a bit. better than smelling drunks farts i bet.
Its from the coffee shop just down the street.
I love it when people go “Peew it’s stinky, noxious, and must be something evil from the big bad gas station, I need a gas mask”. Then they find out it’s coffee beans from a fair coffee place (not sure if it is but making a point), then it’s all well and good, take a great big whiff of it and say “That smells absolutely delightful”. IT’S THE SAME FUCKING SMELL, IDIOT.
It’s the crematorium, behind robins. Yep, it is true!
Coffee shop on North mixed with the crematorium on King…snifferup good boys!
OOps now that the crematorium has been mentioned, the first odour mentioned as being yucky (thought to be coming from the gas station), became yummy (now thought to be coffee beans) is now yucky again (believed to come from the burning of dead bodies). C’mon now the smell is the smell, it’s either yucky or yummy. Now make up your mind, it’s the same smell, where it comes from is irrelevent.
It was more a matter of whether or not I should hold my breath, Tim. The smell remains the same. I once was eating boiled eggs in class and I heard people going, “oh, yuck, eww, gross, what’s that smell?” I said “eggs” and all was well.
This crematorium has my interest. Is there really a crematorium back there? I’ve lived in Halifax for seven years and this thread makes me feel like a September frosh.
Yes there is but there is nothing toxic about it. It’s one of many crematoriums in the city. A friend of mine actually builds burn boxes for them. So don’t worry you can breathe. It’s no worse than the breweries when the hops get going and a hell of a lot better than the harbour.
It’s not dead people burning, it’s coffee roasting. relax.
Um, its the creamatorium…

Mocha Java Green IS PEOPLE!!!
Imagine my surprise at smelling burnt toast after seeing the billboard just past the CN bridge telling me the top signs you might be having a stroke.
