Wtf are all of these restaurant owners on a downtown street bitching about the 12:00 parking ban for? When summer comes around, you can’t fucking park there anyway. Why? because of those shitty looking sidewalk cafes they build into the street, despite the risk of someone plowing into them and their $3 furniture.

I COMPLETELY AGREE with the shitty patios all over the god damn place and avoid driving downtown in the summer because it’s just too congested.
personally, I think any seasonal patio that takes up sidewalk/road space should be outlawed… we still have the rooftop patios, etc… it’s a fad gone bad IMO

Halifax has the least amount of outdoor patios I’ve seen, compared to other cities I’ve lived in. I say the more patios the better. Who wants to sit indoors in the summer? YUCK
And don’t most of the places that build outdoor patios also build the sidewalk out around it? I don’t see the problem…parking in the downtown area of any city is usually a pain in the ass so why should Halifax be any different?
Downtown is about 90% overpriced swill & chomp shops. Maybe the decline in business is not just due to parking – perhaps people are fucking tired of getting ripped off for booze and food.
I love the outdoor patios! We usually park further away and don’t mind walking in the nice weather. Doesn’t make sense that people should complain about not being able to park there in the winter though.
The businesses have to pay for the parking spaces being taken up so its not really a big deal.
Patios… Thats why parking DT is difficult? Are you kidding, get a real problem…
And if you risk running into one of said patios, please do us all a favor and get off the road asap…

What I love is the main stretch where the time ban is in effect is that the business are bars. So, it’s this: the bars actively discourage designated drivers (be one and you’ll see what I mean. You and your buddies get rushed), yet they want parking in front of their establishments for what? Drunk drivers?
In Melbourne, there are “sidewalk cafes” everywhere, but they can only take up half of the sidewalk so no parking spaces are lost and pedestrians can still walk about. Very cozy, though a bit too cozy sometimes if you ask me. Year-round sidewalk cafes too thanks to the nice weather. Great coffee and food.

Learn to walk a few blocks , and your troubles are over . OP is just a lazy ass that needs to park 10 feet from where he’s going . And probably uses drive thrus to shove big mac’s into his face . Why get out and walk . Why leave 10 minutes early to allow time for that extra few blocks walk? Because you a lazy ass . Patios are awesome – nothing better then having a beer on the street instead of shoved into a bar/restuarant watching tv and having ac !!! You can get all that at home !

Hog…you work in the trades don’t you? As far I as I know (I am in IT)…the trades actually get paid as much IT (except for the highest levels in IT…they are really just overpaid though).

I have two trades Der . Masonary and carpentry . Along with alittle of other related trades .I work my own business as a sub contractor which allows for setting your own reasonable wage . For an average employee of my trades – starting wages in Alberta usually start around 19-21 for carpenters and masons average about 22-29 dollars starting , depending upon which company you work with .
Advancement for good and skilled worker in these trades are pretty good if you know your stuff. Even in HRM wages aren’t to bad . Thou you can expect 3-5 dollars less on start .
Me – if I and my crew work fast and finish ahead of scheduled hours I set for the job , we make substantially more . Thats why I hustle my ass !! It’s not easy – but its profitable for the hard work . I have close to twenty years in it – so I pretty well know what I need to know to run – schedule and complete jobs to make money. I don’t know what IT people make – but I’ll assume the smart and skilled ones can make a decent buck !!! If you have a nice building to work in Der lol – thank us for building it !! Kidding !!!
