So, according to the CBC, The Mayor and Council thought it a great time to increase parking rates downtown.

Perhaps they should look at doing something to attract people downtown rather than find another nail to bang into the coffin of the city core. It isn’t as if downtown is parking friendly at the best of times. I don’t want to hear about taking public transit after reading some of the bitches on here, and ditto on the cycle/walk brigade.—Gimme liquor-n-gambling

  1. What the fuck? The parking rates are to high to begin with. A dollar doesn’t even get you one hour in this piece of shit city.

  2. so, what the fuck has this to do with dumpsters? i thought you were going to spin some kind of story in here, about rent being so high, that you had to live in one. or maybe eat out of one. but no, you going on about fucking parking rates. do you even own a car, bet not?

  3. How about charging drivers a fee to enter the downtown during regular business hours. Other major cities have such systems. It encourages people to use public transit (gag, not that I would ever).

  4. Live in Dartmouth? Park at Alderney and take the ferry. I’ve actually timed it, and it’s quicker than taking the bridge over.

Besides, what is downtown that would cause such a reaction? I mean, I would assume that you go down there frequently, meaning you either work there and are too cheap to shell out a monthly parking pass, or you frequent either a bar, shop or store. I only say this because it would be the only way someone would actually complain about parking metre rates going up.

  5. I think I’ve paid for parking DT maybe like 5 times. I usually just park in one of the many Superstores conveniently located all over the city, with their massive parking lots ;D. I have never gotten a ticket or been towed. But now I live DT and can walk pretty much anywhere <3.

  6. The paying for entering the core issue was originally brought in by London (UK) where they have a serious congestion issue, not like Halifax, which would just use it as a cash grabber…..

  7. Hey Sebastian, “other major cities”?? Come on, Halifax is only a major city compared to Truro. I’m not dissing Halifax, I like that it’s not major, but be realistic. Other “major” cities also have wicked public transportation for its citizens. Halifax is a nice small city that deserves small city solutions not shit they’re doing in NY or London.

  8. yah, halifax is like, ‘major small town’, if that if you don’t count dartmouth and all the rest of it.
