Actually I jaywalk, reason being is that there is alot of times that there isn’t a cross walk, also there was a commercial on last summer, if there are 2 streets intersecting, you can cross at that corner, BY LAW. Also if you were the one walking you would probably not be walking to the closest cross walk especially if it is 5 minutes down the road. So stop because it takes you 2 seconds!!
I just want to add to my last comment, I only say jay walk when there is no upcoming traffic, look both ways and if you have time to go then your good.
“if you jaywalk, i’m not stopping” WTF? are you for real? You have the convienience of being in your car… Is it really gonna fuckin kill you to STOP for 30 seconds?I could see if this was spring garden road, and people just dash out and EXPECT you to stop… If I see someone waiting to cross the street, and they are NOT at a crosswalk.. If I can stop, without getting my self rear ended, I’m gonna stop… And OP, I really hope you’re behind me :)There arent always Crosswalks availible…. And Like Elle Elle said, BY LAW, at ANY intersection, there is an assumed crosswalk, whether there are painted lines or not!
How come in any complaint about jaywalkers people bring up the unmarked crossing at intersections? Impudent motherfuckers routinely step out into traffic all the time outside of any sort of marked or unmarked crossing and expect drivers to stop on a dime.I would think people would have a bit more fear of a several thousand lb vehicle moving at 50 clicks. Even if you do have the right of way, you’ll lose. People jaywalk on Chebucto ALL THE TIME on a busy ass street.Speaking of Chebucto, why in the hell are there pedestrian crossings on the roundabout? The point of a roundabout is to keep traffic flowing smoothly, which is hard to do when you have to yield to foot traffic. Why no pedestrian overpass? The dichotomy makes my head hurt.
amazing that someone in a nice warm car, burning little to no calories is that inconvienced by stopping for maybe 5 seconds. Commercials must really piss these people off.
Agreed Pete.. Those people drive me fuckin crazy! Like on Spring Garden road.. and most of Downtown Halifax… Some people think they are fuckin invinsible! Only reason I mentioned unmarked crosswalks is because ALOT of people think that, there has to be painted lines, or signs to indicate a crosswalk… So when they think someone is “jaywalking” they (in some cases) are just ignorant to that fact..
It’s not that I mind stopping, it’s I hate slamming on my brakes to avoid running someone over. I jaywalk too, but only when the cars won’t have to stop for me, and I don’t take my time. For the record, sometimes if there is only one car on the road, it’s faster for the pedestrian to wait and cross behind it, instead of waiting for it to stop.I don’t think it’s a lot to ask that if someone is too lazy to walk the 20 ft to an actual crosswalk, that they not inconveniece people driving by breaking the law and jaywalking. Drivers shouldn’t have to deal with foot traffic on the roads as well as all the other retarded drivers.
People are assuming that it’s rude to not stop for a jaywalker, but I think it has more to do with safety. Just because I stop in my car doesn’t mean a car coming in the opposite direction won’t (or won’t see the jaywalker.) A friend of mine was hit by a car after another car “so politely” stopped. Not only can the pedestrian get injured, but fender-benders are more likely to occur when a car just stops in the middle of the road. Not a good idea.I’m a pedestrian more than a driver, just for the record.
