Hey dog owners: when asked to keep control of your off-leash dog in public spaces like parks and beaches, maybe instead of responding with “he is friendly/just curious/only saying hello,” you could consider that some people aren’t comfortable around dogs. Just as you likely wouldn’t be comfortable with my tarantula crawling toward you on a park bench, despite it being completely harmless. The animal’s behavior/nature is irrelevant. It’s not up to you to get over your discomfort of large hairy spiders to accommodate me. It’s up to me (and dog owners) to think of others and control our animals. —I Like Your Dog, Just Not in My Crotch

Just call animal control. I find it very funny when they are faced with getting their animal taken away, and a fine. That’ll teach them to follow leash laws.
Shoot all dogs, then their humans.
Didn’t we go thru a similar bitch recently? Bitch quality is definitely making sucking noises.
I always love when people say “I’m afraid of dogs”. Really? You’re afraid of a chihuahua? A Boston terrier? No, you have a selective fear to justify not having to share public spaces, just like I was “allergic” to onions when I was a kid. Enjoy your irrational fear of family pets, which is absolutely not the same as having a tarantula crawling on you. Tarantulas are poisonous insects, not pets. Your hypothetical tarantula has little hairs all over its body that a certain portion of the population are allergic to, and will go into immediate anaphylactic shock when they come in contact with them. I reject your comparison!
I’m not defending people that don’t put their pets on leash when required, because my dog is not friendly with all dogs and it is super annoying when she gets leash reactive with other dogs running up to her. It’s rude to not have your dog on a leash in an on leash area, period, and I don’t buy this “I’m afraid of dogs” bullshit for a second.
Good bitch.
@ Poprah, clearly you’ve never been bitten or jumped on by a dog. I was bitten by a small dog (terrier), resulting in stitches and a tetanus shot and I’ve been jumped on by a few much larger dogs. As a result I give all dogs a wide berth when I pass them, leash or not (yes, there is fear there). I simply don’t trust owners to control their dogs. I own a dog as well and always have him on a leash. If a non leashed dog approaches me now I scream bloody murder. I don’t know the owner or their dog and honestly don’t care if their dog is good or not.
Furious Poprah, you’re my favourite bitcher. I love ‘the fire in your belly’.
This may never change as either the owners seem to be too stupid to realize it, or too stunned and ego-centric to care. This will generally be a never ending bitch as it just seems to constantly happen in public areas that are not ‘off leash’ areas. And it will continue unless there is an actual hard line push by police or animal control, and such owners start to lose their dog.
And that does not seem to happen, as authorities likely are aware of the situation but do not seem to be doing much about it. Just takes a few (perhaps undercover) visits to various public parks, and publicizing the fact that dogs could be taken from owners. Then again perhaps there is not enough funding to actually follow through with that threat, or perhaps just too much bureaucracy involved. Unless and until a few people are badly hurt.
There are a couple of such off leash areas close to where I live – one of which is a major connecting pathway to the downtown area, with a cross section of users of all ages – and there often tends to be at least one person meandering around with a leash in their hands with their dog(s) many metres ahead of them and far from being under control. Oddly enough they usually are not ‘locals’ as they often have their car parked in a nearby lot, so they actually haul their pup(s) to this area for a ‘walk / run’ and then let them lose upon this hood. Often just power tripping on the owner’s part, and they do not care. Yet they likely would not dare do it in their own street, or area.
As I have said before to me is not the dog’s fault that they are not being properly looked after, and these type of owners should not be permitted to own animals.
Well said, Dartdude.
Whoops. Just noticed that in my post it should read – There are a couple of allegedly on leash areas close to where I live …
FP: Guess what? You don’t GET to decide how any person other than yourself feels about being approached by a strangers dog or how to feel about being bitten by a dog. You simply don’t.
Stupid mutts, let’s eat them all, and then burn down the pet stores.
Jesus fucking Christ, are you really that thick, OC? I never once said anything about “deciding” how anyone feels about anything. What I said is, and I’m going to paraphrase so you dummies understand…
YOUR PERSONAL ANECDOTES ON WHY YOU BELIEVE YOUR PERSONAL FEAR (or insert any other stupid reason here) DOES NOT MAKE YOUR ARGUEMENT MORE VALID. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR DOG OWNERS TO BEHAVE LIKE THIS BECAUSE, IF YOU ARE IN A ON LEASH AREA, IT IS A BYLAW TO HAVE YOUR DOG LEASHED. YOUR PERSONAL BLAH BLAH BLAH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. YOU ARE ALREADY RIGHT, NO NEED TO EXPLAIN WHY BECAUSE YOUR BULLSHIT FALLS ON DEAF EARS.
FAKKKKKKK!!!!!!
“Undercover visits” to parks to take down off-leash violators….yes…!
Can we call them “Barcs”…?
I sniff a reality show!!!
Furious, getting but by a tarantula is no worse than getting a wasp sting, so unless you happen to be allergic (and there are no known confirmed deaths to humans) all that will happen is you will have a bit of discomfort.
I carry dog spray and use it as often as possible le. However, fair is fair, I don’t go to off leash areas.
I call bullshit, GV. I bet you haven’t even used it once, if you even have it at all. You’re such an internet badass!!
I like dogs in general but I want to have the choice as to which dogs I interact with. I never go to off-leash parks so I expect any dogs I encounter to be on a leash at all times. Period. It’s not that complicated.
Furious, of course I added. You said tarantulas are poisonous, giving the impression that they are fatal, they are not. And just correct your other mistake, spiders are not insects, they are arachnids.
SHtTD, oh, how I miss thee! A Hall of Fame Bitcher.
“Jesus fucking Christ, are you really that thick, OC? I never once said anything about “deciding” how anyone feels about anything.
“Just because you got bitten by a statistical anomaly doesn’t mean you should be afraid of every dog out there. That makes you an idiot…”
Contradict yourself much?
Ugggghhhh, I’m so bored with the same 6 bitch topics week after week. Dogs, bikes pedestrians, drivers, buses, men. Same shit, same pussy-assed argument. All I can hear when I read bitches like this is some uptight twat with an long, slow, nasal whine.
Seriously, all people do now is bitch and moan about shit we called life, like what, 5 fucking years ago? Always whining about how someone discriminated against you, or enfringed on your god given right to have everything exactly how you want it, identifying ourselves as “pedestrians”…
Fuck sakes!
I get a kick out of this, “I don’t like people who don’t like dogs” bullshit, I like dogs, worked in a dog daycare when I was younger, and have plenty of experience around them, It’s not the dog I’m worried about, It’s the owner! Dogs are smart they pick up on their owners emotions and character traits and emulate them, When I see some shady looking tough guy with a pitbull, Yeah I’m fucking scared! The dog is used to project his “image” Dogs are loyal, and they know who’s friend or foe to their owners whether the owners are in the right or the wrong doesn’t matter to them! People are fucked these days, Why wouldn’t their pets be?
Deflection tactics. Typical.
“I call bullshit, GV. I bet you haven’t even used it once, if you even have it at all. You’re such an internet badass!!”
Busted. I have some in my EDC but I save it for zombies.
You’re doing it again.
No, I ignored you the first time you brought it up and commented on why I feel the way I do about these stupid bitches, because I don’t feel I have to “defend” myself. You totally missed the point and the direction of my comment. Not directed at you, nor was I defending anything. Anyone can someone of being a hypocrite by hacking up a full sentence to “prove” your point. It’s “gotcha” bullshit at best. Big fucking deal. Good for you, clap clap. I don’t really care that much.
To be honest, you were quite a normal person, but as of late, you have adopted this manic, SJW stance where if people don’t agree with you they are either a racist, misogynist, sexist, taking my power away, blah blah blah.
This paragraph is not directed at OC.
I have a serious problem with how this city is outlawing off-leash areas because of whiney, scared little princesses and giving dog owners no options to run their dogs. Like it or not, Halifax is a growing city and with that comes more pets. More people equals more pets. There has really been nothing added to accommodate this influx of dogs. We build arenas, sports fields, rec centres, etc for our children, but nothing for pet owners. Nothing but on leash signs, and where there aren’t signs there are lots of judge Dogs can’t survive without more exercise than a leash walk, and not everyone can afford 150/wk on a daycare. Instead of whining and acting scared, why don’t you better spend your time trying to get more dog facilities built so you can have all the usable parkspace for your tight asses. Fuck sakes, all I ever hear is, kick them, spray them, call blah blah and have them put down. How is that a solution? How do I end up being the asshole here? FFS, 10 of you assholes pushed “like” for “Shoot all dogs and their owners”. That’s mature!
Fuck you thumbs.
Should be “anyone can be accused of being…”
Should be “lots of judgey-ass people…”
Don’t know what happened there
“To be honest, you were quite a normal person, but as of late, you have adopted this manic, SJW stance where if people don’t agree with you they are either a racist, misogynist, sexist, taking my power away, blah blah blah.”
Huh?
Yup.
@ Poprah – definitely agree with your comment about off-leash dogs running up to you when you have your dog on a leash. Makes me antsy not know what could be around the corner when I’m walking my dog in what should be an on-leash area. If my dog were to bite their dog, apparently I’m the bad guy.
