First time hiking in Long Lake Provincial Park. Beautiful rugged trails & waterfalls once you get around the lake. Could not believe the amount of dog droppings… most I have ever seen on an HRM trail. But what was worse were the plastic poo bags, that were abandoned on the side of trails. I picked up 9 of these on the way out. What is wrong with people, that they cannot be responsible enough to pick up after their animals…or carry the treasures out? —Scouter52

yah! first time at Long Lake was in Dec thought they were decorating for Christmas. deck the boughs with balls of pooh pooh .
could be freshly used bags waiting for owners’ return loop. did you check ’em for dust?
Oh, I can’t believe you picked them up, ob. Yuck. I agree they are unsightly, though. People like to leave them by the telephone pole in front of my place. They seem to show up everywhere…nasty habit.
i went to long lake first time earlier this spring, and i lost count on the number of poo bags i seen along my hike.
Who even cares about dog shit, if I pass dog poop on the grass beside a trail or sidewalk I don’t even care. It’s only gross if it’s right in the middle of the path where you might step in it when you’re not paying attention. If I had a dog (don’t worry not happening) I honestly probably would not pick up its poop unless it was in someones yard. I’d probably just flick it off to the side with a stick. Putting it in a plastic bag is just stupid. Instead of letting it dry into dust from the sun you’re preserving it for God knows how long.

waterfalls at long lake, where? i have lived up that way and have never seen a waterfall. oh, you mean the dam on old sambro road.
No, there is one about 20-30 minutes walk from the parking lot on St.Margrets Bay Road.
Its nothing to get excited about, though.
I do this at Long Lake – sort of…
For some reason, the only garbage cans in that particular park at the entrance. If my dog poops when I’m on my way in, I’ll often pick it up, bag it, and leave it on the side of the trail. I do this so I don’t have to carry a swinging bag of poo for the next 45 minutes.
However, I ALWAYS pick it up on my way out of the park, and dispose of it properly. I know of other dog walkers who do the same thing.
So while we appreciate you picking it up for us, hopefully someone was coming back to get it themselves.
