umm what was the pup doing on the street
Always a sad thing to hear about. Sadly pups and other animals have ways of escaping from backyards or from houses via an open door, gate or digging under a fence etc., sometimes even when they were originally leashed to something. These things happen, as well as the oft time result of being hit by a vehicle. However, no matter the situation the driver should have the decency to stop and see if they are able to do anything for the animal or try and find the owner if possible, and at least report the incident to authorities. Responsibility comes in many forms.
sometimes o.p., you just never notice that you hit anything. when i used to drive cab, for ace/village out here, i ran over a small shepard dog, never even felt the bump. my passenger told me, and i stopped and took a look. sure enough, there was this young dog, maybe 5 months old, dead on the road. fuck, fuck i felt some bad for seeing that.
but as i say, sometimes, you just never know, you might even just ding the criiter in the side or head, and if you don’t hear anything, well, wha can i say. maybe this driver was too intent on something else more important at the time, to notice that they hit the dog. just be thankful it wasn’t your or some ones kid.
i think this was my mother’s dog. she was a 13 yr old jack russel mix. (small light beige short hair) still had lots of energy despite her cateracks and age. people often thought she was a puppy. my uncle was looking after her while my mother was visiting relatives out of province. she managed to get out of the fenced back yard and got away. we searched for hours until animal control had called to inform us she had been taken in to the vet by some teenage girls – some true good samaritans. i am interested to know what happened to the dog, she was a cherished member of our family.
Chile01 sorry to hear about your mom’s dog.
I only asked because I see dogs in this area that are always without a leash from puppy on up.
To the irresponsible dog owner who let your puppy outside unattended to wander in the street…
If this puppy was wandering in the street, sadly in the path of a car the driver would have had no choice but to hit it. It is dangerous to swerve on any street to avoid something that is going to do zero damage to your vehicle. Hitting the puppy vs swerving to miss it, hitting another car or losing control and hitting a person on a sidewalk, sorry to say but I choose the puppy.
Um, Steve, maybe read the responses before making stupid assumptions. Nobody just LETS their dog out to run around freely..
still… feels gross as you get that crunch under the wheel well.
🙁
I’ll never forget that horrid feeling…. or the poor bunny that gave it to me.
Where was the owner?
