Shubie park in Dartmouth is primarily off leash, and on the water.
Shubie Park is fantastic, as Mrfitness says. Stick to the left-hand trails when entering the park from either parking lots and you’ll find a great beach, perfect for stick/ball hurling into the lake and gleeful mad-dog fetching.
it has been proven, time after time, that dogs are not usually wanted on public beaches. one reason is the shit, second is that they get excited in the water, and try to climb on people’s back, more young kids. there were a fe incidents that led to this.
Long Lake, either in Sprytown or over by the road to Prospect/Bayer’s Lake (near 103).
You can try Banook. I’m not sure what the regs are fur die hunden at Birch Cove Park, but I’ve often seen dogs in the water at the little beach at the foot of Brookdale Cr. and all along the trail as well. I’ve only swum once at the beach at the end of the causeway but from the number of empty liquor bottles to play fetch with and used diapers to snack on, I’d say that pretty much counts as “Dog Heaven”, wouldn’t you?
Shubie baby. Beware the cougars there though. They are in heat this time of year.
It’s a bit of a drive, but Dollar Lake is welcoming to dogs as long as they are on leash and outside of the lifeguarded area (there are flags). I really like the beach, and the water is awesome.
ahh am I missing something here; isn’t Halifax like right door to ummm …. THE ATLANTIC OCEAN ! 🙂
Three: only the walking trails on the St Marg Bay Rd side of Long Lake are designated as off leash. But that is probably the best place to take them. So long as the owner obeys the rules of the park, they’re good. (Most dog owners don’t obey the rules out there though.)

same could be said about Cheers….
None of Long Lake Provincial Park is legal for off-leash dog walking. There was quite the stink a couple years ago when someone complained about being jumped on by a dog the DNR officers were brought in for a week or so to hand out $100+ fines to anyone with their dog off-leash. This policy hasn’t changed nor will it. People do use it as an unofficial off-leash park though, but skip the picking up the dog shit, though.
