Why does it seem that the only money around me is dirty money?
In my family, we work our asses off to just barely pay the bills in our household while we sit back and watch the people we know scam welfare, EI, hell even a couple of them have rich old men that cater to their every desire. What ever happened to working for honest money, not expecting a handout or looking for someone to save your ass when you spend you’re last $20 on liquor and smokes instead milk or diapers for your kid. When I had my child everyone said oh, lie about this for your family allowance, claim single on your tax return instead of married, tell them your husband left you so you can get subsidies. Did I do any of this? No, I was honest and never lied about anything. And what do I get? $300 a month child tax based on a two person income of a combined $19000. No subsidies, no welfare, hell I can’t even get the government drug plan. Yet, some people I know who lied about everything are getting monthly twice what we make in month. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Why is it that now you have to be a liar, cheater and a fraud to get anywhere in life?
Seems like the only people making money anymore are drug dealers, robbers, and couch potato parents that sit home and watch the brown envelopes come in.
I don’t really even want any money from the government or anyone else for that matter, I like working hard for every dollar I get, but I don’t think its fair that people can be half assed parents, or human beings and benefit from it.

OP, you wrote this bitch with pride. Keep it. Don’t be jealous of leaches. Don’t even be angry with them…. report them (anonymous) if it will make you feel better, but it won’t.
I know. I’m self-employed, which means that 9.9% of my income goes to the government at the end of the year to pay for C.P.P., non-negotiable. I don’t get E.I., and I don’t make a huge amount of cash, so having to forcibly hand over almost 10% of my income to the government for my retirement fund without being able to decide where the money goes kinda sucks. I know what the O.P. is talking about, there should be grants and incentives for the hardworking rest of us so that everything can be done above-board without consequences. Unfortunately, some of my friends don’t seem to have a choice over where they get their money. Some of them are hard-working, moral sorts, who are pretty much forced to scam some money from E.I. or the government somehow just to make sure they can afford rent AND electricity.
Back to C.P.P.-I’ve asked them in the past if I can just invest it in something that I can guarantee is ‘green’, and send them the proof, they kind of laughed. I called them up once and left a message asking if they could use people’s money for the C.P.P. to invest in green technologies and moral ways, nobody got back to me. 😛
Don’t vote NDP or they’ll vacuum your hard earned cash right out of your wallet to support those fucking thieves that can smoke and drink beer at our expense. My ex-best buddy is one of those goddamn bloodsuckers and she actually feels entitled. She had a business on the side (babysitting for $200 a week) until someone in her apartment building squealed (I was so happy!) – welfare took $90 off her cheque for 2 months then reinstated it. So now she’s back to sucking on her Keiths, smoking her illegal smokes and sleeping her hangover off all day. What a waste of space.

I know someone exactly like you’re describing OP, and she’s a huge waste of space. Be proud of yourself, you’re awesome and honest, and your kid will turn out better for it.
I’d say report them anonymously. These people DO have to file tax returns at the end of each year do they not? Have they ever thought of what might happen if they get audited? They might be able to hide the under the table stuff, but if they’re not reporting income they’ll get their asses handed to them on a platter by Revenue Canada.

i would like to see more perks for the working class poor. more perks for being married and having kids. OP is right. benifits do encourage lying and lazyness, single parents (by choice or through lying). This becomes generational.
I thought we had more morals and values but just look at the gov and you see there isn’t any. I know plenty of young females that try to get pregnant so they can go on the system get a place, money, daycare for their child subsidised (not that it matters cause its paid for anyway). medical, dental the works. Compare it to what a working (low wage) couple make having to pay for it themselfs without the benifit of a subsidise.

I know some people have no choice in single or kids but the gov makes it so easy to be a “welfare bum”. that is not a term I would use on everyone but some do deserve it.

Actually, as they are on welfare, they would have a case worker assigned. Report it to the local social services office and blammo. If they’re scamming, they’ll get caught and face having it reduced, or cut off entirely. Dirty, but effective.
That happened to my ex-buddy, Dr. F., and she was penalized for 2 months then reinstated. She is no longer babysitting but looking for other ways to make quick under the table cash. All they have to do is give a convincing sob story to their case worker.
I don’t tattle. If they get caught oh well for them. sob story and back at it. glad it’s not me.
