As I approached the bus stop on SGR at South Park this afternoon, there were two buses, Bus A and Bus B, idling at the curb. I walked up to the door of Bus B, because it was closer to me, and I thought Bus A might be about to depart. The driver of Bus B glared at me through the closed door and gestured at the bus in front. I thought that was odd, since both buses said “1 Spring Garden” on the sign, both had passengers on board, and both were stopped at a bus stop. But whatever. I started walking toward Bus A, which promptly took off, followed immediately by Bus B. And where there had been two buses a moment before, there were now none. None, not coincidentally, was also the number of buses that I was on. It wasn’t a big deal. There’s a bus along SGR every couple of minutes in the late afternoon. But am I alone in finding this unneccessarily prickish? I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, so if there are any MT drivers reading this who can suggest a plausible explanation that doesn’t involve the driver of Bus B being a straight up prick, please enlighten me.

  1. Bus B was having a laugh at your expense. Don’t take it personal, you might’ve done the same thing.

  2. If A was at the bus stop and B wasn’t (technically not at the stop yet), then that might be why he sent you to A. But to just take off, seeing that you were not on either bus…that sounds a little dickish.

  3. If there’s one thing that’s clear from the MT antics of the past year it’s that playing with the minds of HRM is one of the few perks of working for MT.

  4. Some people need to have power in there life…The power of if you can ride or not…Lacking in their other parts of life. (wife bitchslaps him when he get’s home)
Make’s his world even(=)…your not getting on!(I’am so powerful).

  5. I’m sorry but that was just mean.

Thankfully *knocks on wood* I’ve only encountered one such dick head in the past year or so and that was last week when the 14 fucked off as I was about to board it…the 10 was behind it and stopped to let me on, which was ok since I was going to the same place the 14 was going anyway….It still was a bit frustrating.

Other than that my drivers have been pretty decent. It only takes one apple to spoil the bunch I guess.

  6. ooo, I’m gonna wait for PDG on this one.
Buddy sounded like a dick but I want to see if he mentioned it to his colleagues.

  7. Yeah, I was thinking the same zZz, I also like giving people the benefit of the doubt, but that does seem kind of prickish.

  8. Interesting. During rush hour, the #1 runs every 10, and because of the large lines on Bayers Rd, this leads to clustered 1s like in OPs case.

When buses get clustered like that, it also usually means one is fuller than the other and the other driver may have been pointing at the less full bus (this is usually when NEXT BUS PLEASE makes an appearance). He may not have either, but I’m reasonably sure bus A pulling away wasn’t in driver B’s plans. Why bus B left after that, I’m not entirely sure. It’s the best I can come up with at the moment.

  9. Thanks!
I didn’t even think of the fuller bus scenario.
yes, I said fuller….and surprisingly the spell checker hasn’t corrected me. queue the bearded onion.
