So I was sitting reading ‘The Book of Negroes’ minding my own, when a lady came up to me and told me I should not be reading it because I had no right to. I am totally confused by this tidbit of info. —Black Rose

When I was reading “The Nigger of the ‘Narcissus'” I made a book cover for it because it made me uncomfortable. Great book though!

that’s too funny rosie. it’s a great read and it’s called that because there was an actual book called “THE BOOK OF NEGROES” sorry channeling lewis black. they changed the name of the book in other countries

You could argue with her, but it’d be utterly pointless. These type of people are never wrong.
I assume she said you had no right because you’re not black. By her logic no non-white person could ever read about history involving white people. And that would just be stupid.
Nothing wrong with learning about other cultures. We can’t have it both ways, if you want less racism you need more understanding and learning history is a huge part of that.

That is an Amazing Book OP!! What a horrible(understatement!) thing for someone to say! I loved the book . And have read all other books by Lawrence Hill. They are marvelous. And he is a bi racial author. I am a pasty person.
