One of my oldest and dearest friends is just finishing up her SECOND medical speciality, and she’s a) managed to pay for it all herself and b) been single the entire 7 years, so far, that she’s been in med school.

I agree, SEB. There are many options, not just a degree. The guy should have gotten into a trade or something. Retail is a pit stop job for someone whose’ future is taken care of or someone that has no future.
Seb probably had a chick roommate in university who went on to become a doctor when he only settled for a BBA. She got all the guys, had money and went on to do something with her life while he just lost his hair, hid in the closet and went on to teach ESL in Korea before landing a job as a car sales “thing.”

Maybe this guy’s perfectly happy doing what he’s doing? I have a friend who works in retail and loves it. She’s educated too! WOW, ‘magine that. There actually can be a lot of money in retail and it’s not just clothing and whatnot. Corporate retail sales can produce six figure incomes! I have another friend who’s dad (again, educated) works in corporate retail sales and makes well into the six figures. As well, retail car sales can produce a decent salary was well. If it’s commissioned sales, the salaries can be significant, depending on how hard this person works. Plus, management in retail is usually drawn upon from its existing workforce. You can keep working up and up if you’re a hard worker.
I don’t think that she didn’t have any right to leave him (I’m a firm believer of not being with someone out of obligation), but he sure as hell did get taken advantage of from the sounds of it and has every right to bitch about that.

OB, I know someone who was married with 2 kid’s & his wife decided to go back to University. She became a doctor & when she got her first job at a hospital in another Province , she came home & told him I want a divorce. During the 9 years + she was in school he paid for the family & she didn’t owe a dime in student loans.
THis is happening all the time to men & women, in his case, the divorce judge ruled in favor for all he asked for. Including her being unable to take the kid’s to the Province her new job was in.
My generalization wasn’t to be taken seriously. I was not generalizing all university grads, just the ones who show absolutely no reciprocity toward people who are kind and helpful to them. However, I remember hearing on the radio that over 60% of Alberta workers have some form of post secondary education.
So if we take those jobs away, and we take the hard ass industry jobs away , that doesn’t leave many jobs for the uneducated.
And, that is in Alberta where the employment situation is pretty strong. In my opinion, it would be even harder for an uneducated person to do well in Nova Scotia.
