Drivers please be aware that there are crosswalks on Cogswell and Gottingen and Cogswell and Brunswick street. Just because it is a green light does not mean that you can drive though the crosswalk without looking for pedestrians. In the last six months I have seen a pedestrian get hit and I have almost been hit twice. I know that everyone has places to be but PLEASE drive with caution. I have taken a defensive driving course, but I should have taken a defensive walking course as well. —Christine

Im actually more terrified of the drivers of halifax than anything else in this city. Just walking from my workplace to the bus stop across the street on the bedford highway i almost got hit 4 times in a year and was hit pretty hard once in a hit and run. And that is at a highly marked crosswalk.
It all boils down to two words: impatience and entitlement.

christine, sweetheart, they will do what they want to. where ever and whenever they so choose. you can’t teach idiots driver ettiquette, and why bother to try. i now carry my sidearm 24/7, and sad be those, that try to run over me. there will be no tires left on your car. and yes, maybe a lot more regular people should carry, it would certainly cut down on crime near you and to you. if the creeps knew that you could fight back.
You may have the right of way in a crosswalk, but that isn’t a guarantee. When driving in the city, there are many things to pay attention to, and it’s very easy to make a mistake, and at 50km/hr mistakes culminate quickly. The best thing you can do to protect yourself is to pay attention to vehicles and make eye contact with the driver, that way you are assured that they know what you’re doing. I personally don’t put myself in a crosswalk until I am aware of all vehicles around me, and I never have a problem.

trood, i used to have a 57 plymouth, identical to that beast. same color scheme and all. but the thing really did have a mind of it’s own. would never start on a wet or even hint of a damp day. them fucking 318’s were hell to some.
but when they worked good, they really worrked good. i remember doing about about 130 mph, and when cop pulled me over finally, he asked what kind of ticket i would like, speeding or flying too low. fucking broke me up he did.
i took ticket for speeding, flying too low was something like a grand back in the 60’s. and no hippie love guru, had that kind of bread then, unless they sold pot. ah yes, the 60’s, free love, pot and ofcourse woodstock, loved them all and would like to see a comeback of those days. but alas, we only move closer to doom and our graves. but i’m still a hippie at heart. finally got rid of my tidyed tees, and bells last month.
