Why am I being prompted to tip everytime I use my debit card now? Don’t get me wrong pizza girl, you did a bang up job handing me my slice. But is this really something that warrants a tip? —Crabby Cardholder

  1. Very true Z.
O.B. just punch in $0. They understand that 99.9% of people will not give them a tip for this service, but I am sure that some people do, espeacially around christmas if they are in the spirit.

  2. Debit is set up one way in a business, they can’t pick and choose the options per unit. If they need the tip option for deliveries, it will also show up on the machine in the shop. If you to go a salon to buy product you will still get prompted because most people are getting a service done. Relaaaaaaaaax.

  3. debit is a bitch sometimes. if you want to get cash, they double charge you. if you just wanna pay with it, they try to get extra. do what i do o.p., carry some cash, that i go to a bank teller to get. and fuck tipping for a slice, that’s just insane.

  4. I agree.. I bought a slice of pizza last week in the mall and there was a tip option on the debit machine. Not that she wasn’t friendly or anything but all she did was put my pizza slice on a paper plate.
I just put in 0 or press skip, but it’s still a tad annoying.

  5. Secretagent hit the nail on the head. It’s just the way they’re set up. If you do not wish to tip. Don’t.

  6. restaurants think tipping is mandatory for everything now, personally i think tipping needs to go away almost completely

  7. I think the only place that thinks tipping is mandatory are the people on this forum because it’s the only place I hear people bitch about it as if it is. I work in the service industry while I’m in school and I do get tips. But I also know that tips come from maybe 1/3 of the customers. I don’t look down on those that don’t give tips, even the regulars that I see every day. I don’t expect it and I know that the people I work with don’t expect it either. We’re thankful when people do tip but know it’s essentially a bonus. We still treat the non-tippers as well as the tippers and there’s rarely, if ever, a conversation regarding tips in general. I really don’t know where this idea comes from that people think it’s mandatory just because the suggestion is out there. Skip over it if you don’t want to. I promise there’s no hard feelings on this end – even though some of you really REALLY want to make it out to be that way.

  8. It’s a web site of Commentators.
    They’re commentating.
It would be boring if everyone acted like they do in real life.

    Don’t take it personally.
    Survivor.
