I was mildly interested in the Death Cab concert being put on at Dal. Even though the whole thing is some lame bullshit advertising ploy by a media conglomerate which could not care less about Nova Scotia. I went on Kijiji out of curiuosity to see ticket prices. 350$ for two tickets? To a band that would never come here unless some giant company puts another 0 at the end of their bank statement? This is ridiculous. Anyone who would pay such an amount deserves the punishment of seeing a band past their expiry date. Why not support local venues and the music being played there by musicians who actually give a fuck about our city. Go back to Starbucks country, I’ll see those who care about anything at Gus’.

  1. $350 for two tickets to an obscure, self absorbed indie rock band I’ve barely heard of before? That’s just plain stupid. Now if it was for, let’s say, Ween, then maybe I would consider. Anyway, you’re bound to find countless ripoff artists on Kijiji so I’m actually not too surprised. I’m sure the crazy amount of money being asked is not reflective of the band’s drawing power of even their worth rather than some scammer wanting to turn a quick buck.

  2. I was actually lucky enough to land tickets from the company, and all of my friends are pushing me to make a killing (as many other people seem to think they can do). The good thing is at least, I’ve heard rumors (from just students, so nothing really solid) that they may have another show while they’re out here.

  3. never heard of ’em but if it’s being put on at Dal, you will definitely be able to get cheaper tickets. I’m guessing once people realize that they can’t sell the rest of their tickets off for major $$$, they’ll drop at last second just so they don’t lose their already-invested money. keep your eyes open if you really want to go.

  4. Um, no offense, but they band is not selling tickets, and neither is the sponsor, so it’s the Kijiji idiots jacking up the price…

  5. about Gus’. Dimo (Gus’ owner) cant deal with the local bands. some locals are way too real for him. Like a certain fairly young band that got banned from playing there again after only one show (and had to hear from support staff almost a week later, as opposed to right there and then from the owner), and not like because the band was disruptive. played a fairly mellow set (sure, out of the ordinary, but no destruction or anything lke that).
and its not like that band is the only local act permanently banned from gus’.
but c’est la vie, there are other, more open-minded venues out there. just please, stop praising gus’ as the end-all of halifax venues.

  6. “Way too real…” LOL

I don’t understand cover charges on indie acts at all. Gotta wonder if Gus’ disappeared as a result of such policy. Just watch, the Seahorse will be next because they do the same thing! Charge cover to see a band that may or may not be any good playing songs I’ve (guaranteed) never heard before… nary a cover (even just some relief) in the bunch? I’d rather go to a pub with no cover and where I know the band is good enough to be paid to play covers. (I’d even listen to an original or two from such a band.)

  7. kay: at gus’, the charges are set by the organizer of the concert. they expect people to show up for the concert, not for the bar aspect of it all. i always find it odd, when you see a Suit at a punk/metal/nosie show, why dould they pay the cover, and sit through a show they obviously dont enjoy, when they could have gone for free to any other bar in the city?
certain bars fill certain nishes. Gus’ is a live concert bar. from my understanding, the fado has cover bands. different strokes (bars) for different folks.

and last i checked (earlier this week) Gus’ was still there. Blue Moon is gone. maybe you are confusing the two?
