Ok I admit that when we bought our house we were newbies, first time home buyers. We did not realize that there would be so much truck traffic going on the Bay Road by our neighbourhood all hours of the night going to the industrial park down the road.
Anyway we’re used to the occasional sound of a huge 18 wheeler thundering down the Bay Road BUT for the love of God do you have to honk your horn REPEATEDLY every time you go by the 24 hour gas stop? I know you’re happy to see some of your other trucking buddies out and about but please have some courtesy and think of the residents in the neighbourhood across the street who are sound asleep at 2 a.m. when you honk your horn hello.
I live far far up the street and I can still hear you clear as a bell. When this happens 2 or 3 times a night it’s a real pain.
Please have some courtesy.
PS: to the idiot that goes by the neighbourhood around 9 p.m every night in a passenger vehicle and honks their horn furiously. Get a life.—Mutual respect

gee, you live near a major area like an industrial park, and you expect it to be quiet, only in your dreams. my jesus, didn’t you realize shit like this was gonna be the norm.or are you now hoping to get a tax rebate like the idiots that bought a place on a very well known stretch of railbed, used by atv’ers and such. if you do think you will get a break on taxes, you are out of your mind. next time look and chexk out the location before you even consider buying.you might even want to talk to the locals.
Maybe re-read the bitch LS. They didn’t realize it; they said it was an error. The sound of traffic they are used to and have accepted.
I really don’t see any reason for trucks or cars to honk just because they pass a gas station and see some of their buddies in there. Unless there is some other reason for it; Its disruptive and annoying.
There’s a bus driver that lives across the street from me; he wails on his horn whenever he’s on this route and passes his house. Good thing the route stops before midnight.
Unnecessary honking is fucking obnoxious.
The constant sound of traffic is easy enough to get used to, but horns are something that are MEANT to draw your attention and therefore aren’t quite as easy to sleep though.
And I agree, LS needs to get some reading comprehension skills.
I sympathize. We didn’t realize how much traffic goes down Herring Cove road when we moved there either. Especially emergency vehicles. Luckily it’s not bad when the windows are closed, and it’s only an apartment so we can get rid of it. The noise you hear is probably going to be really bad in the summer when you’re forced to leave your windows open. Buy earplugs…
yet another reason earplugs rock.
you WILL sleep better….
just do it.
i don’t need to reread anything, i know what was written here. i stated that he should have done some research into the area he/she was moving. as to anyone not knowing that trucks go in and out of any industrial park, at any given time, day or night, is just plain dumb, and deserve what they get. so about the horns, i agree that they should not blast them, but what you gonna do, rip out all the wires from them, good luck there too. and o.p., you don’t say a word about those little shit box cars that flit around all night, delivering dope, and shooting at each other, sometimes.or even how about atv’s going by your place, no word there either. yes i have read and reread the bitch, and what i said before still remains, maybe some of you should like, i don’t know, read between the lines here.
I believe if you check it out, you’ll find that unnecessary use of the horn (especially late at night) is a HRM noise bylaw infraction.
So make a complaint, & ask it to be looked into, they can’t do anything about traffic flow, but they can do something about late night horn blowing, loud Parties , Music etc.
I used to live in the Euro Pizza area of the Bay Road. The place we bought to get away from it is an extra 15 minute bike ride but comes with children playing in the street and 0 through traffic. Plus wildlife. Yay. Better luck next time, OP.
I think trucks/cars should be seen and not heard like woman.
Perhaps your local councillor could get some signs posted, reminding drivers of the noise by-law?
Honking to say hi at 2am, not cool. I used to live next to active train tracks and the trains from the autoport were nice enough to not blow the whistle until they got to Burnside. Why can’t this be the same?
Until then, earplugs have been mentioned. Just saying.
If this happens most nights at 2 a.m. – stay up late one night and get the name of the trucking company involved and call and complain, that should do it as most responsible trucking companies do not want adverse publicity.
The 9 p.m. idiot – a well placed rock through the windshield might stop it.
Hey LS. You may want to read my bitch again. Are ATVs mentioned even one time? This has nothing to do with lowering property taxes. It has to do with unnecessary noise.
And BTW the Industrial Park is not right next door to our house. It’s down the road way past our neighbourhood. There are other ways for the truck drivers to get to it other than the Bay Road but I guess they think that route is the fasted.
