I am sick and tired of you Haligonians, you feel you are to good for Dartmouth and refuse to make the trip over.
Dartmouth is great, you dont have people running out in front of you while driving, there is a small amount of people trafiic, if your smoking outside no one stops to tell you to put it out, not alot of homeless people and the biggest Wal Mart!

Why would I ever want to go to Dartmouth? They are all poor drivers, there is nobody walking on the streets, a cloud of cigarette smoke sits on top of it all, and it has the biggest wal-mart! Thats nothing to be proud about Dart. There isn’t a lot of homeless people because nobody has any spare change in Dartmouth.
O SNAp…lol, I don’t mind Dartmouth, it’s alright
This is the funniest Bitch I’ve in long time. “Come to Dartmouth for our big Wal Mart” – they should put that on the tourist brochures!
We have to Dartmouth Commons and The Dartmouth Sportsplex. Alderney Landing is in Dartmouth and has been known to put on a good concert. The Multicultural Festival is at the Landing as well. Mic Mac Mall now has an H&M. That is more of a reason to come to the darkside then WalMart. I’ve had many fun nights at the Celtic Corner and Whiskey’s; both fine Dartmouth establishments. I heart Dartmouth and will never move to Halifax. My rent is cheeper then your rent Haligonians!
The Darkside… oh, the Darkside… “not alot [sic] of homeless people and the biggest Wal Mart”. Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious. Not to mention the likelihood of getting shot at on an alarming regularity, much like Sprytown. That’s a whole other bitch though…
Since the stabbing of the dishpit worker from the CC a few weeks ago, there have been alot more police cars Downtown. And the shootings are never random. So don’t piss any gansters off and you should be alright. There is no reason to fear Dartmouth!
We also have the new waterfront NSCC campus. Also Joel Plaskett lives in downtown Dartmouth. You can’t go to Mic Mac Tavern in Halifax.
Hooter’s and Ralph’s Place are on the Dark-Side.
Hooter’s and Ralph’s Place are on the Dark-Side.
Aren’t those good things?
Hooters sucks ass. Ralphs is good though. Amateur nite is coming up, or did I miss it?I hope not.
Other than Ralph’s and the occasional visit to Celtic Corner I have no reason to go to Dartmouth.
dr fever: not trying to be rude, but isn’t it easier to just say a lot rather then alot(sic), just wondering if I missed a joke their…
and..im a tool…never realized u were using quotes….wish you could delete comments right about now
Dartmouth has Highland Park – that’s enough to keep me over on this side of the bridge.
I live in downtown Dartmouth.
Me too!
I live about a 5 min walk from Celtic Corner, wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Portland street has rough nights every now and then, but thats just something that happens when you put a couple bars on one street. Sometimes drunk people walk by my house and the cars never stop coming and going, but all in all its a pretty sweet place to live.
Downtown Dartmouth is pretty blase at the moment, which is unfortunate. Mom said it was great when she moved in 30 years ago(shops, strolling, socializing), but slipped. Hopefully the development on the marine slips will bolster it.
Dartmouth has Highfield Park, but Halifax has Spryfield, Fairview, Uniacke Square, Gottingen Street, Agricola Street. Should I go on…
I’d walk through all those places you mentioned but I still wouldn’t walk through Highland Park.
Dartmouth is cheap!
pssft highfeild realy isnt that bad it;s just portrayed that way, there is violence everywhere (spryfeild fairview etc)
Where the fuck is Highland Park? Never heard of it.
Oh and we were smart enough to get rid of our rotary.
i lived in sprytown for a few years. had our bikes stolen once, but saw some kids riding them, so we called them on it and they were left walking home.
Seriously what is so bad about Dartmouth I live in Halifax myself and always here people bashing it most of it Cole Harbour and such just looks a like a small town or a suburb. and really we have The Square and The Pubs and the lets get stabbed or mugged at the commons thing going on. I think downtown Dartmouth is nice and really though isn’t it all Halifax Regional now. Wow some people have nothing better to do then bash some place because it has a rough neighbourhood or two get a life
isn’t that the Jersey side?
cheaper to live but then also closer to a full-blown ghetto than halifax.
The only way I’d live in dartmouth is if I were super close to a ferry station so I could take it across every day.
zZz it’s really not so great. I used to live on Victoria road relatively close to the Bus Terminal, and a good 7 minutes from Alderney Landing. I’d lived in the HRM for 4 years before I moved to the Darkside for a year. I’d never been threatened, had a knife pointed at me, or anything else violent.
That changed once I was in the Darkside. I used to smoke outside of my apartment building. Then the local pricks would threaten me for a smoke, I stopped smoking outside.
I had two attempts at mugging done on me, once by some turd that was probably in grade 7, and another time by an old man. I got out of both incidents by having no money, and frankly because I could have broken both their arms easily and called them on it.
I say personally f*ck the darkside.
LadyS, when the guy standing a metre outside the car can hit the guy sitting inside the car more that 1 bullet out of 5 fired, then ill stop worrying about being shot by a ‘targeted’ shooting. until those goofballs learn how to shoot, ill keep on worrying.
I used to think Haligonian toddlers were forcefed Buckley’s Cough Medicine while their mother screamed ‘DARTMOUTH!!’into their ear after each spoonful. Hey, how else can you explain Haligonians’ dislike of the Dark Side?
And don’t forget Dartmouth (perimeter) has John’s Lunch that serve the best clams and chips…..
John’s may have good fish but their fries are run of the mill frozen – total turnoff for me – at least Willmans and Fries and Company in Halifax cut their own fries.
If you would walk through Spryfield, Fairview, Uniacke Square, Gottingen Street, but not Highfield Park(not Highland Park, unless that was a joke of some kind!) then I know you really don’t spend time in Dartmouth! besides we can make left hand turns in Dartmouth! LOL
TTFN I agree about the hand cut fries – Willmans (or as I call him; Borat’s) are good, Fries and Co. very expensive. In my humble opinion you need to go to Bayers Park and try Fredie’s, they’re also in Tantallon, they’re great
The downtown area is the only part of Dartmouth i could ever see myself living in…it’s quite pretty, and some of the older victorian houses really are stunning. The rest is just all around undesirable. I grew up in Halifax, so i think i have more of an attatchment to it. Also, someone mentioned Agricola as being a bad part of Halifax, IN the same sentence as Spyfield…Seriously? I live in the Agricola area, and i’ve seen no more violence/crime than you’d expect to see living in any other area of on the peninsula. Sure, it’s full of hippy-dippy/hipster types, but at least they’re not thugged out morons running around threatening random people.
I think i can live with an average-sized Walmart. I only cross the bridge when i really have to.
See i would vather not see “hippy-dippy/hipster types” or the gangsters but there everywhere you go too.
I have lived downtown hali and Dart the diffrence between them is hali is WAY TO over priced. Now the downfall with dartmouth is out of the way if you spend the most time in halifax but to save the money i will ride the bus
Wal-Mart was the reason i moved to Dartmouth.
Dartmouth is far better… where in halifax can you get a large 3 topping pizza and a medium garlic finger for less than 20 bucks?
AK— KOD (multiple locations) has a 5 topping and med garlic fingers as a special… 18.99.
OH MAN Cassa something it used to be uncle bucks at the beginning of high feild is the cheapest best pizza ever!
$10 for a large pizza
If you’re looking for cheap pizza…. little ceasar’s has the 12″ hot and readys for $5. It’s no-where’s near good pizza, but it’s edible and cheap…. so fuck off with your… “ooh, our pizza’s cheaper” shit cause it’s gonna take a fuck of a better argument to get someone to move to or choose dartmouth over halifax.
And you can have your community college.
We’ll stick with our rowdy universities, panhandlers, and EVERYTHING ELSE INTERESTING….
you know, like most actual cities in NA.
I will admit though, I have slummed it to go golfing over at montegue once or twice.
nost just the pizza is cheaper
the cost of living
Darkside has all that you need, and a little less of everything you don’t. Score one for the Darkside.
zZz’s rowdy today!
I like it!
Look, I’m not gonna rag anymore on the darkside…
it works for some people. I’m certainly not one of them because my time is more precious than saving a few bucks a day -and I’ll be the first to admit,I haven’t worked out the figures. I just like to be close to where I need to be most of the time.
Buying in dartmouth, land value is less so getting started is easier but you’re not going to get the great return should you choose to sell.
Renting, ok it’s got the amenities and all…
and if you work there, then hell yeah, that’s the place to go.
My mom works in dartmouth and would rather eat dirt than move there…despite the 1.5 hour bus/ferry commute in the morning….although, you can blame mamma grattis and their delicious hazelnut coffee for her detour….still.
I have no problems with dartmouth, really. They *do* have the best mall although I do have a soft spot for BLIP’s walmart (interestingly, the walmart in New Minas is the best walmart I’ve been to), and while dartmouth crossing is ok, it’s inconvenient as fuck to get to if you’re bussing it. And they really don’t have anything there in the end that you can’t get anywhere else…it’ll be awesome in the future, but, for the time being it’s nothing special. Even the movie theatre in BLIP is bigger.
I just hate how the 10 to micmac clashes when every bus coming into dartmouth from clayton park and back…THAT is annoying.
Also: zZz — SASSY today! rawr!
better watch yourself there kitty… you’re now taken…apparently.
I think it is hilarious that (a) anyone in Dartmouth cares if people from Halifax visit and (b) that it is such an issue for many people on either side of the bridge that they never cross it!
Coming from out of province I have always found it more than a little peculiar that a very large number of citizens of this metro area know absolutely nothing about the community on the other side of the harbour. A lot of people couldn’t even begin to give someone from “away” how to get to established landmarks or neighbourhoods simply because they have never been there themselves!! Weird.
Zorba…I just have to agree with you. It’s downright weird. We’re practically the same place. My Father is a hardcore Halifax boy but raised his family in Dartmouth. I love Halifax for the Gardens, museums, waterfront, restaurants…and I could go on. Dartmouth has great restaurants, theatre, less expensive housing and a wonderful view of the halifax skyline! Why choose? It’s a beautiful area regardless which side you’re on.
its like livin in toronto west end good east end bad
Since someone brought it up, can we rag on Toronto now? I’m sure Haligonians and Darksiders alike can find some common ground now.
but, in Dartmouth there’s a lot of stabbings and shootings, drug dealers on every corner, and robberies happening all the time.
I’d rather feel safer in Halifax, then get shanked and robbed while not being bothered about smoking outside.
Fox Force Five have you been to Gottingen Street, Uniake Square, Spryfield or Fairview? “in Dartmouth there’s a lot of stabbings and shootings, drug dealers on every corner, and robberies happening all the time.” That is one of the most uneducated and uninformed comments I’ve seen on here in a while. I lived in Halifax for 5 years before moving to Forest Hills and have never felt safer here. Both communities have their bad spots, but you’re comment was pure ignorance.
I think it would be different if ya didn’t have to pay tolls on the bridges. It’s not steep or too expensive, just a deterrent.
I agree with BRoc for sure!!!!
that was pure ignorance Fox Force Five
If you take a look at the little map thing on the coast with the areas that crimes pointed out, although I just briefly looked at it (and it doesn’t seem to be a huge difference between the two sides) Halifax seems to have more crime then Dartmouth. I have no bias between either side really, each has it’s good points and bad, but just thought I’d point that out.
Halifax is one of the highest crime rates in canada :s
but there is bad no matter where you go!
Don’t be sad and upset OP, the entire province sucks, not just Dartmouth.
Let’s see, Halifax has the universities, the historic forts, the museums, the Public Gardens, an actual downtown, and all of the best clubs and restaurants. Lots of street life and great shopping WITHOUT the need for a car. Bad neighbourhoods, yes, and also the best and most vibrant ones.
And good old Dartmouth has… the biggest WalMart? Is that seriously the best thing you can come up with? Dartmouth is a good place to have a big house with a double garage and feel safe in your suburban blandness. Er, that’s it.
Have you ever walked down Spring Garden Road on a warm afternoon? Or is walking not your style?
These are the reasons I’ll stay on my side and you can stay on yours buddy.
2 more shootings in Fartmouth – if the bridges collasped, I could care less.
Dart mouth has: All the colleges (mostly) Some grat resturants, Shubie park (way better than point pleasent) The alderney landing (concerts, The market) 1000 lakes in dartmouth, 2 rivers, Dartmouth has, the newfoundland club, shark fishing, best lobster (eastern passage) best surf break (cow bay technically inside the city) best tattoo’s (merchant maries) dartmouth has more parks, is less crowded and is generally a nice place to live.
I am not from dartmouth but I go there all the time. I would like to remind some people that a bridge is not an international border. There is actually little differance between the two cities except that most of the pretentious people who like to talk smack about the other side of the harbour happen to congregate to one side in paticular.
