People always say that you’re a friendly city. You’re not. You are dismissive of new residents and generally disinterested in anything anyone says. You are an entire city of adult emos chit-chatting about the weather. Try leaving the house or smiling once in a while. —Temporary Resident
This article appears in Oct 6-12, 2011.

This Bitch is pretty boring too.
You still here?
Good for us that you are only here temporarily………if I don’t see you before you leave please accept my heartfelt “fuck off” in advance.
Just avoid social jockeying of the 20-24’ish crowd – deciding between regular jeans and skinny jeans can be difficult for some people – and you’ll probably have a change of heart.
So you are going to people’s houses to hear this idle, glum chitchat? Weird.
Pop Explosion, Jazz Fest, Nocturne at Night are the only non-boring things of Halifax.
There is an oval also.
As Jay says, “Boredom is the first step on the road to relapse”:

Dear OB,
Please refer to previously posted bitch titled “WTF”, posted Monday, 3 Oct 2011 at 1:46PM.
Essentially, your bitch only longer.
Dealt with.
Next!
I was disinterested in reading anything after you called us unfriendly.
To be honest, I’d rather be chatting with my emo friend about the weird weather we’re having…. but on the phone though, I don’t wanna bother going out.
The OB is probably some foreign student. Guess what OB, you’re not welcome.
Maybe if you stopped humping people’s legs like a demented poodle, they’d be a little nicer.
welcome back… Go home.

Here are some things i know about you. You’re under 25. You’re a total victim. You’re pretentious as shit.
If you don’t like it here there is no law keeping you here. There is no invisible, all-knowing, all-seeing force keeping you here. There is no one begging you to stay.
So you know.. man up and make a choice here. Either you want to be here, in which case you’ll make the best of it. Or you don’t want to be here. In which case you’ll leave.
Grow up.
And let me tell you something else. I was once a new resident. I am not a native of this place either, far from it. And i was greeted with open arms.
Maybe because i’m not a negative, obnoxious idiot that does nothing but complains and blames other people for their lack of coping skills. You cope poorly with change OP and are taking it out on everyone else. You’re likely poorly traveled (try living in tibet for a year! See how you deal with drinking rancid butter tea three times a day) and as a result are one of those people who’s tied very closely to the things they’re used to.
That’s fine that you’re like this. But please.. Don’t move far from home. VISITING will make you much happier. You’re dealing with a mild case of culture shock and dealing with it quite poorly given the relative lack of severity of the shock.
People don’t welcome you because you have a shitty attitude and have made no effort to make people want to welcome you.
YOU’RE NOT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE. Again i urge you to grow up and get a wider sense of the world around you.
Tisktisk…
Take a deep breath and breathe I-Kay. There. Feel better now?
Pshtttttttttttttttttttt
Jeeze IK, you would think the OB drug your pets into the street and shot them in front of you.
Why are we so sensitive as a city? Someone can’t make a bland generalized statement about the lack of excitement here? I don’t get it. We are not the end all for North American cities, people don’t follow our trajectory for success. Why? We really don’t have much success. We’re over taxed, under payed, and for the most part overeducated, while about 2 thirds of us work for the government. Wow, that’s some ground breaking shit I must say.
The downtown is depressed, there are no new places other than restaurants or bars, people are surly and the general public has a go fuck yourself attitude that in my opinion we haven’t earned yet. I have made many friends that are from here, and some that were not originally from here, but met them here. Does that make this the most exciting, best place on earth to live. NO!!! it means I am a social person able to make friends anywhere I go. How does the volume of friendships found here dictate the overall level of awesomeness this city has?? I fail to see the relevance of the correlation, and I say that is a stupid argument. What draws people out of their homes and makes someone excited to meet new people, try new things, or be part of something bigger than their own little world. That’s what I would measure a cities vibrancy by, and Halifax, unless you are a drunken student on a pub crawl, is an EPIC FAIL.
“… go fuck yourself attitude that in my opinion we haven’t earned yet.” I like that. lol
At least one person isn’t afraid to comment on the emperor’s new clothes.
I agree with you SHITD, why does anyone care that someone else might not like it here?
I’m sure none of you would be above bitching about whatever new place you might end up in and not like.
sounds to me like someone needs to paruse a few goings on in Hali.

I hate Halifax as much as the next Ontarian, but I just hate those certain people that think you’re less of a person because you live here. I have witnessed a few instances where people from other provinces have come here for whatever reason, a visit or for a job or whatever, then can’t even have an open mind about a single thing. “We can go shopping at this place” “But there’s this shoe store in Toronto that has like 2 floors filled with shoes!!” “Okay…how about that jewelry store?” “That all looks cheap from here” “Okay want to get some food?” “I don’t feel like food poisoning THANKS”. Buhbyeeee Negative Nancy. You’re here for whatever reason for whatever amount of time, just deal with it or call your father to get you a plane ticket home. I don’t like it here either but I find it much more pleasant to not shit on absolutely everything and try to find something I like to do or hang out. I don’t really know what you can do elsewhere that you can’t do here, just on a smaller scale. Deal wiff it.
Absolutely true DM! When I lived in a certain Ontario small city which had few redeeming qualities with really clique-ish stuckup people I didn’t hesitate to disparage to everyone I met. Surprise, surprise, people there were even less welcoming of my eastcoast-extolling-ass. No loss for either side in my opinion. But I did get my ass outta there at the first opportunity.
“The OB is probably some foreign student. Guess what OB, you’re not welcome.”
There needs to be an island where you and only your kind are welcome. That way we decent humans can live without homo-terrorism, meth-abuse and AIDS killing good people.
let us know when you are leaving o.p., so we can get the party started again, after you go.tata.
that sounds a lot like sarnia o.c.?
Of course Halifax is boring. I can say that because I was born & raised in the city. Everyone’s hometown is boring to some degree and for some reason. The worst is the long, dark, soggy winters. I think that’s why I started drinking and smoking, playing cards and hanging out with questionable characters.
Nope Suckster, not Sarnia. More southerly, but just as lame.
Don’t forget the Halifax Bitchers Society… that’s pretty exciting
Well I lived in a big city for 20 years, sure it had lots of things to do……all of it costs money. And, small errands took an hour, not 20minutes.
Here I actually do things that I didn’t do in the big city. Things that are club related or family related are much more easier to do here.
Maybe we’re dismissive and disinterested in you because you’re boring and you have interesting to say.
If you’re bored, you’re boring.
I’m sure people’ve already said this but:
If you hate it so much here and are that bored: move. I don’t say that to be nasty, I mean that in a nice way.
Maybe halifax is boring, and maybe it does suck — if you think it does, than cool, I’m not going to get all pissy about it like others will, BUT, if you hate it so much, do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.
Nothing worse than hating where you live.
It’s all relative. Everything you said hinges on what YOU consider to be boring or exciting. What you may find exciting, others may find boring and vice versa. And if you’re comparing Halifax to somewhere like Toronto or Montreal for example, than you’re an idiot. We’re a fraction of the size both in population and resources and therefore is not a valid comparison. The fact is there is plenty to do in and around this city for anyone. You may have to look a little harder for certain things or it may not be on the the same grand scale as a giant megapolis but if you have an open mind, stop judging and be willing to….OH! GASP!… maybe try something different on occasion, you migh actually enjoy yourself.
*might*
I think OB has confused all the Upper Canadian douchebags here for the winter, spending their parents money, for locals. Your bad OB.
And you want me to leave the house too?? lol. I pay good money for my home… and I can sit around in the buff while enjoying a beer (that actually costs me less than $7, and I don’t have to tip anyone but myself to get it). The outside world is overrated OB 🙂
I’m not offended as a haligonian. There are a lot of things i hate about this place too. I’m offended as a traveler.
One of my biggest pet peeves are people who bitch and moan about things they can easily change. It’s precisely that attitude that has bred a nation of retarded, victimized debt-monkeys.
It just annoys me.. it’s like someone standing in the rain, right outside their own house, and complaining because they’re getting wet.
“It’s precisely that attitude that has bred a nation of retarded, victimized debt-monkeys.”
I don’t buy this at all. Not everyone is a pessimistic whiner. Last time I checked bitchers and moaners are NOT exclusive to the Canada populace. And we couldn’t possibly have any bitching and moaning at LTWWB!!! (sigh)
Oh, I do humbly apologize – you must have us mistaken for Toronto.
Come a little further east – participate in some community events, volunteer with local organizations, walk through some of our gorgeous trails and along our beautiful beaches. In my experience, Atlantic Canadians are some of the friendliest people.
I think this bitch should have been met with an “Ok.” an acknowledgement of “we hear what you’re saying”. None of the “well leave then” or getting personally insulted with what op says.
Op thinks Halifax is boring the same way I think Friends was a terrible, unfunny show. Me hating the show didn’t get it canceled, it went on for quite a while, while I hated it, the same way OP hating Halifax isn’t suddenly going to make it disappear of the face of the Earth. People are allowed to hate things …
I don’t think any of the umpteen “suggestions” OP has been given will change their mind …
i used to really hate brussel sprouts, but i like them now
Donk’s right. Friends was horrible.
OP needs to move to Windsor, the excitement capital of the province. You’ll be welcomed with open arms. You won’t find emos here and we hardly ever need to talk about the weather because it’s always so nice. Come on OP, it’s only 30 minutes drive. The Pumpkin Regatta is tomorrow. Maybe if you’re lucky you will get a chance to paddle a prized pumpkin acroos Lake Pesaquid.
we were there on friday critter guy, got some loverly apples and stuff. if any of you bitchers have not seen the paddling pumpkins, it’s a larf riot
OP, there are people that would be bored living in the wild, and there are others that would be so busy that they wouldn’t have time for everything that they need to do.
In an area the size of Halifax, it’s truly sad that you are bored and don’t know what to do with yourself.
..yea speaking of boring..be needing some new bitches..
