You have probably heard the issues with the usage of turn signals, not breaking for pedestrians, running red lights, etc., and ignored them all, but please allow me to add just one more to the list:
When approaching an intersection and suddenly realizing, for whatever reason, you have gone too far forward, CHECK YOUR FUCKING REAR-VIEW MIRROR BEFORE STARTING TO BACK UP! It’s costing me a fortune buying new underwear when I KEEP SHITTING MYSELF as you obliviously roll backwards at me!—Bay Harbour Bitcher

Wouldn’t it be easier to walk in front of the car?
Why worry about it? If they back into you then the accident is their fault.
correction voice of reason…if they are too far forward in an intersection and cant safely progress forward then they are required by law to back up. if someone is too close to them backing up and the person behind them isnt aware, then they are the ones at fault. there should be 3 car lengths behind them to safely move back. and thus avoid any further congestion and accidents. letter of the law.
also if the OP is a walking person, then they should, if they are paying attention have the good head on their shoulder to observe what is going on around them, and not just start heading out. thats what the “look both ways rule is for” better to be right and alive than right and dead.
but unfortunately cuja, paying attention is lost to the electronic gods
o.p., what the fuck are turn signals.
Who the fuck chose that name?
Seems kinda cheesy.
I wouldn’t want to be called that.

Cuja12 – you aren’t required to leave 3 car lengths between vehicles when in slower city traffic. 3 car lengths really equals 2 to 3 seconds following distance on the highway. In town, as on the highway, you are required to maintain control of your vehicle in order to stay out of a collision. For some this might mean they actually have to pay attention to those around them instead of texting, playing with the radio, etc. You can stay out of trouble by simply watching the road all around you instead of using tunnel vision.
Try leaving 3 cars distance between you and another car while on the standing-still Bedford Highway at rush hour and you’ll be letting everyone cut in front of you.
As for the car already into the intersection – you are already committed to make your turn or travel straight through, do it as the light changes. Next time take a second and think about whether traffic conditions are going to let you make your manoever before the lights change to red.
For the car coming up behind the above driver – look far enough ahead to plan an early stop if the car needs to back up – but if you are completetly stopped and he/she backs into you then they are in the wrong for hitting a stationary vehicle at that point. They weren’t in control of their vehicle at the time of the collision.
Cuja12 – I should add then when approaching an intersection where a car ahead of me has driven well into the intersection and well passed the stop line, then its their problem to make their intended maneover or take alternation action other than expecting me to back up if I’m at the stop line as legally permitted. The driver ahead of me simply has to plan in advance, and if that means driving straight through cause he can’t make his left turn then so be it. I’m 100% legal as long as I’m not past the stop line when the light turns yellow/red.
voice_of_reason – well put! I agree 100%
