With yet another blizzard approaching for tomorrow how about letting your employees either stay home or go home early lest they are stranded if the busses are pulled off the road. I know that the massive amounts of sales during a blizzard will hamper your decision as you are lounging at home comfortably with your massive SUV parked in your double car driveway while your employees struggle to get to and from work. I have heard it repeatedly as a “company line” that employees are the most important asset of any business so let’s wait and see what happens. —Harried Halifax Traveller

Hello Harri,
Most businesses close early for inclimate weather, take a walk down Spring Garden Road .. mostly closed. As for the comment regarding lounging around, many business owners work harder than their employees .. I know that I do. I don’t work forty hours a week, I stay working till everything is done. And yes, I reap the profits (if any), take the financial risks, and hope for the best. Only a fool would think as you do .. that it’s all gravy for the employer. Many business owners go bankrupt .. a risk that employees don’t take, they find jobs elsewhere.
Yes, I drive a very expensive car, live in a beautiful condo on the waterfront, dress very well, lots of money, etc. but you know what? I earned it! And you didn’t! So complain all that you like, but complaining won’t get you those things. Either get an education that allows you to be well-employed, or lay down your life savings, acquire debt, and work hard and long in your own business. Those paths can lead to success, your path of complaining leads in circles.
“I have heard it repeatedly as a “company line” that employees are the most important asset of any business ..”
You have heard it, but it is a lie. Cash is king.

My illusion of you is now shattered, here I thought you were the type that led a humble monkish life.
Pick up the phone …. Hey boss, did you see the roads out there? No? Me either cause it’s a fucking blizzard and I cannot see past the pane of glass! See you tomorrow.
Employers cannot tell an employee to go to work under dangerous circumstances (weather or otherwise) or else they would be liable if an accident were to occur. At the same token they cannot tell their employees to go home under the same circumstances for the same reason. It’s really up to the employee, you may not get paid but you will stay safe.
I got sent home early, 2:30 – my co-workers who rely on the bus were allowed to leave early if they wanted to but would not be paid for the rest of the day – those of us who waited for the fat cats to make the call are paid for a full day. Don’t get me wrong O.P. I mostly agree with you and DAMN THE MAN! But I got to go home early and am still getting paid…so I can’t be that mad.
these businesses are your bosses livelihoods. don’t you know how much it costs them to stay closed, especially if they still pay you anyway? i don’t blame them for wanting to stay open. company owners are the hardest working people i know. employees shouldn’t be so entitled to decide not to come in, they are to be grateful that their bosses put food on the table.
Crispy, tell that to police/fire departments. ambulance services hospitals, the military (sorry sir I can’t attack the enemy, I may get hurt or killed) and others who have to go to work, including linemen.
The more important question is, why are there so many wimps for a normal snow storm.
My friends who are in the Navy and another friend who works for DND both got sent home before I did (or didn’t have to go in at all) BT. You saying they are wimps? People are sent home, or asked not to attend work to minimize accidents on the road and to…ugh, I don’t even have the energy to explain this to you.
“Yes, I drive a very expensive car, live in a beautiful condo on the waterfront, dress very well, lots of money, etc. but you know what? I earned it!”
Holy shit Buddha, you are bipolar! You must have already forgotten about posting the following;
“Myself, I was born into a wealthy family, have never been truly hungry, or in need of anything important. Perhaps this is why some folks here perceive me as arrogant, I really don’t get it, to tell you the truth. I really don’t look down on people.”
You’re really starting to remind me of someone….. Did you by any chance ever pretend to be a Christian on here before pretending to practise Buddhism?
Hey Nukka,
The subject of discussion isn’t me, or my religion, you troll. It seems you’ve become infatuated with me, but I see nothing of substance in you. Now you’ve taken up diagnosing mental illness in me .. truly, you are only a lonely, bitter and flatulent fool. I suggest that you find something more constructive to do .. soon I will be posting a concentration meditation technique, perhaps you can find some peace and sanity, if you can lay aside your “hobby” long enough to give it a decent attempt.
As for your comments, I am wealthy .. but I put it all on the line when I went into business, plus incurring a large debt. I have worked very diligently, paid off my debt, and I am enjoying the rewards. And you know what? I employ quite a few people .. how many people do you employ? Nobody is my guess, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you are a nothing but a sad old man.
No Hoist, I replied to this silly statement:
“Employers cannot tell an employee to go to work under dangerous circumstances”
“but I see nothing of substance in you”
Not true, you’re trying to troll a troll that is far greater than you.
“flatulent fool”
Unfounded accusation and quite the assumption to make.
“I suggest that you find something more constructive to do”
Kind of like how we’re both on here together? When are people ever going to learn that’s not an insult. It comes up in every disagreement.
“soon I will be posting a concentration meditation technique”
Yes, you do seem to like copy and pasting from Wikipedia or other easily traced open sources.
“I am wealthy .. but I put it all on the line when I went into business”
Ummm, no. You obviously put your parents money on the line. That’s only if this business you claim to own is even real. So, zero risk on your part.
“how many people do you employ”
Do subordinates count?
“and I wouldn’t be surprised if you are a nothing but a sad old man”
Nope, sad at times but I’ve yet to hit my third decade.
Now Buddha, I did ask you a question in my previous post. Will you be addressing it?
Q: How many people do you employ?
A: Do subordinates count?
Dumbest answer question ever!!! Really? You don’t know the difference between being in charge of people and employing people?
SHITD, does a supervisor not ensure their subordinates are gainfully employed?
Dumbest troll attempt ever!!! Employing individuals is open to many interpretations. Good to see our love is back.
oh goody, now we can be treated to the “clash of the tantrums”
c’mom buddha, taunt him. take away his rattle.
That’s debatable, yet still you responded!!!
#owned
Hey GDM, you never said if you liked the post card I sent you or not? And slightly off topic, but by any chance do you have any magazine subscriptions?
Talk about getting a rattle taken away, lol.
And yes, SHITD. You’re so right, I’ve been owned. It’s so obvious.
“Yes, I drive a very expensive car, live in a beautiful condo on the waterfront, dress very well, lots of money, etc. but you know what? I earned it!”
Fuck, I earned a good pension after 40 years of work but I drive an 11 year old car, have a old bungalow that has seen better days (but paid for) and all my furniture is 20 years old. I shop second hand and hunt for bargains, even clip coupons. And I think I’m blessed. I don’t envy you one iota, Buddha. Did the trophy wife thing once and had all the things you had and more – I walked away from all that materialism and am now a proud anti-consumer of overpriced goods and services. Sounds like money defines you. How sad.
Hands up how many of you are getting paid for yesterday if you didn’t work it?
Yep, that’s about how many I imagined.
“Myself, I was born into a wealthy family, have never been truly hungry, or in need of anything important. Perhaps this is why some folks here perceive me as arrogant, I really don’t get it, to tell you the truth. I really don’t look down on people.”
YOU GOT IT HANDED TO YOU, BUDDHA, THAT’S NOT WORK, THAT’S AN INHERITENCE! ROFLMAO!!! DON’T EVEN COMPARE YOURSELF TO THE REST OF US, BOYO!
Do you have several gold chains resting on your nest of chest hair? Do your wear aftershave that would put a skunk in a coma? Are you hung like a gnat? Own a couple of downtown restaurants?
You’re a preening, insignificant little man, Buddha, and I’ll betcha your employees have a great nickname for you.
No, a supervisor does not ensure his subordinates are gainfully employed. A supervisor makes sure his subordinates do the jobs they were hired to do. You may very well be in charge of hiring and firing the staff that work directly beneath you but, you are not employing them, you are supervising them. If your name is not on the business licence as an owner, you are not an employer.
That’s debatable, yet you still responded!!!

GDM, how WAS the postcard?
I like both SHITMD and Nukka, so I won’t place bets on this firefight. My favorite is when Bro Tim and RunsWithScissors argue. It’s like watching a hockey game with two teams I hate – and I hate hockey – so it allows me to really determine who makes the better argument without bias. Usually it’s BroTim but that’s just because RWS is an uppity windbag 95% of the time. But I call her all sorts of hilarious names and she never responds, so good for her.
Now to settle this – SHITMD is correct. Supervisors (and even department heads/managers in most cases) are just peons with gold stars upon thars. (10 points to anyone who gets this reference).
choke, gad no, my remark ‘clash of the tantrums’ was for nukka and buddha. a little more even matched doncha think?
shitty just throws nukka a bone once in a while to see him break a baby tooth.
Oh, no. Nukka vs Buddah is a win for Nukka. Buddah is either a troll or just a general douche canoe. Or both. At least Nukka has some lolz.
i would have backed buddha because at least she wasn’t a suck-up, but then she fawned over zedster. so now she’s same as nuk.
Buddha is a she? Huh. TBH I skip over most of her posts. But who doesn’t fawn over zZzedward? His hate for everything is so endearing.
“my remark ‘clash of the tantrums’ was for nukka and buddha. a little more even matched doncha think?”
Why does TT get a free pass with Buddha and I don’t? And speaking of Buddha, didn’t you think in all your know-it-all-ism that some one was pretending to be Buddha for awhile?
“Now to settle this – SHITMD is correct. Supervisors (and even department heads/managers in most cases) are just peons with gold stars upon thars.”
My original statement was “Do subordinates count?” It was a question, not a statement of fact. Which brings me back to;
“If your name is not on the business licence as an owner, you are not an employer..”
CBSA, TC, RCMP, DND, etc. Don’t have this, are they not employed by anyone? You would think the federal government, but that’s not a specific name now is it?
“shitty just throws nukka a bone once in a while to see him break a baby tooth”
Yup, because I didn’t call him out this morning. And on that note, if I respond to him, I lose. If he responds to me, I still lose. This is double troll standard that Nukka just doesn’t like.
“And yes, SHITD. You’re so right, I’ve been owned. It’s so obvious..”
That got me five dislikes, is this because I have in fact been owned? Or is that I have not been owned? Opinions will need to be stated now.
“Buddha is a she? Huh. TBH I skip over most of her posts.”
Oh, yes. And the only thing she has in common with the Buddha is that she is in fact, a reincarnation of a former poster. One of SHITD’s favorites, right up there with me!
The complexities of the LTWWB community never cease to amaze me. Half the time it’s just trolls trolling trolls, perverted old men and angry feminists. So who is Buddha then, wogdog et al? How do you know this? I ignore most of what Buddha says because I find it boring/stupid and can’t be bothered to read it – is there some clue I am missing?
Also, why is the federal government not a specific name? Because it’s public vs private and funded primarily with tax dollars? I hadn’t considered this and it is an interesting question. You correctly assumed that I would initially say that the federal government is the owner but what does that mean for us in a democratic nation? If this was North Korea we would know exactly what it meant and who owned everything but who owns DND for example – the current government? The richest lobbyist? The citizens? The minister of defense? The highest ranking official on site? The answer can’t be that no one owns it or else we’re all just a bunch of dirty anarcho-commies. So first we’d have to ask what constitutes ownership – the person who makes all final decisions? The person who determines and signs off on the final draft of the policies that govern that branch of the private sector? The individual who incurs the most financial gain? In the private sector ownership is determined by the proprietorship of land/real estate and/or means of production. So who owns DND?
“Yup, because I didn’t call him out this morning. And on that note, if I respond to him, I lose. If he responds to me, I still lose. This is double troll standard that Nukka just doesn’t like.”
This must meant that SHITMD is better at it than you and thus we have answered the question of who would win in a firefight between Nukka and SHITMD.
Next round:
Funny/Playful MontrealMan vs Condescending/Arrogant MontrealMan
FIGHT!
Lol, poor Nukka. Life’s just not fair, harrumph!!!!

Poor, poor Nukka 🙁
“But who doesn’t fawn over zZzedward? His hate for everything is so endearing.”
I assure you, endearing… and genuine.
http://www.capslol.com/wp-content/uploads/…
well i adore zeddie as well, but you can’t SAY that, it would ruin everything.
That wouldn’t be sucking up, now would it GDM?
Poor, poor Nukka 🙁
nukka,
you could be fun to play with if you weren’t so bloody NEEDY.
counting likes and dislikes, demanding answers to your comments, scurrying through the LTWWB like a little mousie sniffing at each comment for crumbs of attention. whiskers twitching with delight each time your name is used.
just, ew. i suppose i should feel sorry for you, but i am not a kind person. and i don’t care.
go ahead and send another magazine subscription you silly child.
….and Buddha has left the building….
Buddha a she? Bawhawhawhawhaw! My remarks about the gold chains and chest hair stands.
The likes and dislikes should be ignored like the blind guy swinging his guide dog by the tail to ‘take a look around’.
I was just having fun with the dislikes and likes comment. Thought it was obvious. Go read it again and look for crumbs. Nor do I demand answers. Hell, even if I get them I have a very short attention span so I don’t usually go back and read the threads.
And I look for my crumbs in a hell of a lot of other places than here. That’s what makes me great at being a cyber sleuth. And on that note you should be happy I pay attention, SHITD has never once sparked my interest outside of our quarrels on here. But you, you’re now borderline mail fraud. Hahahaha! And GDM, count your insults per comment. What started out as one has multiplied. Are you just trying to get me going? Remember Nukka is a character that had fictitious pet peeves.
And yes, you should feel sorry for Nukka. You all should!
Poor, poor Nukka 🙁
PS- You should tidy up your house more GDM. One may get the wrong impression about you if they found your Youtube account.
Bro Tim, I wasn’t talking about essential services like police, ambulance, snow plow drivers so much as everyone else. No, employers cannot coerce their employees to do anything that the employee feels is dangerous. It’s a safety issue and extends in and out of the workplace.
Besides, why would you want the white-knuckled, panicky drivers out on the road in blizzards conditions. It helps absolutely nobody and hinders everybody. Even the RCMP say to stay off the roads if at all possible.
To an extent i agree with Buddha for ONE reason.. (disagree for about a thousand reasons but read on..)
I don’t know what kind of job you do op. If you are working in a job where some trust fund flunky is telling you what to do from up inside his own asshole, you have a very valid complaint.
But once i remember this speech i got when i was working a summer job doing support at a call center. My boss said “You know what? My job IS easier than your job is. I love my job. It’s pretty cushy. Know how i got it? BY DOING YOUR JOB FOR 12 YEARS”
And that stuck. Not all employers are the privileged fat cats you’re painting them to be. Some of them were literally baptized by fire to get to where they are today.
Are some of them villains? Absolutely. And in those cases, I agree completely with you. But some others literally clawed their way up a cliff made of suffering and misery to get where they are.
I happen to doubt some of our esteemed commentators who shall remain nameless fall into this category. But I’ll tell you right now op, I do. Of course.. if I were your boss, I’d let you off if you had a good reason for not making it in.
Bosses, managers and team leads who have had to work to get where they are would tend to do the same.
Can I give you a piece of advice op? Research your next boss. Try to get a job where your team leads are people who have done your job for years to get promoted. Call centers are good places, some better than others. One particular one out in Bayer’s Lake being the best one I can think of.
When you interview, do NOT be afraid or intimidated to ask the hard questions. Things like “What happens to me if I can’t make it in due to weather/illness/etc?”
You have a right to feel safe. If you’re taking tons of sick days without a doctor’s note or staying in because it rains, that’s a problem. But if you’re afraid to drive or walk due to a massive blizzard or sick with Captain Trips, that’s a pretty damn good excuse and one I’d let you off on if i were your boss.
RWS I hope you die a violent cannibal-related death.
nukka, i should stop egging you on because it’s beneath me. sort of like pinning a chihauhau to the mat just to hear it yap.
you didn’t ‘cyber sleuth’ my name, i posted a vid under my real name, because i use my real name whenever possible. coast rules don’t allow it here, or i would here as well. i use my real name in youtube. i use it on many different online forums and venues. because i don’t give a crap if someone knows who i am, i am already on ‘real name’ face book with many of the people here on LTWWB and we all know each other anyway.
same with MM. you didn’t discover anything. we all know who he really is because he doesn’t hide it.
you are acting like a little kid, it should be embarrassing. sending postcards to my home, signing me up for magazine subscriptions, what’s next? phone calls asking if my refridgerator is running? (well then go catch it) how about ‘do you have a chesterfield in your home? (this is mrs field, please send chester home)
if you find anyone willing to do delivery way out here and want to flood me with bogus orders, i like extra cheese on my pizza.
mmmm captain trips. road trip to boulder co!
Ummm, we’ve been egging each other on. That, or I’ve just been talking to myself?
You can be so silly at times 🙂
And hahahaha, I’m so beneath you? That’s why we’ve been in a two year quarrell and you continuously try and start arguments with me. Good one!
And no worries, I would never commit mail fraud for you. All your worth is a postcard. Especially with stamps going up to a dollar.
You sent GDM a postcard?! LOL that’s next-level shit right there. Was it at least a nice post card?
GDM is one of only two people who know who I am on here, she’s even bought a copy of my book. I don’t know, more people might know who I am by now – doesn’t really matter it’s just more fun being anonymous.
It was a beautiful postcard. It was a picture of Niagara Falls and coincidentally mailed from Niagara Falls.
See, I’m a very thoughtful guy. It was also mailed right before GDM started giving me the silent treatment for a few months. Guess it was an unexpected move on my part?
Hey Nuk,
Given what gdm has stated, I can see I was correct about you being nothing but a lonely troll. Only a lonely troll would do those things, and your bum-licking novelist friend is only a step behind you .. if he isn’t, in fact, you.
Soon, I will post a concentration technique for meditation, perhaps you will find something in it .. something that will improve your life, if you even have the tenacity to sit and concentrate for a few minutes.
But I have my doubts that you are sane enough for the effort it takes, let alone possess the required patience for such an endeavour. Hopefully, I am wrong about this.
yes, nukka sent me a very romantic post card from niagara falls, honeymooners delight.
he is a young male, whilst i am a 60 year old woman with 3 dogs. i suppose he could have ‘cyber sleuthed’ my investments and that would explain his obsession with me, but i think its my winsome, wrinkled ways that have captured his heart. he has a thing for oldsters. my age is exceeded by montrealmans, and nukka fixated on him first, to the extent of saying he would be strolling past his home in hope of catching a glimpse of him. all i got was a postcard and a subscription to macleans magazine.
our boy nukka is no threat to anyone here. its just kids stuff. he gets very excited when he does these things, i think it’s kind of funny. i do like poking trolls. they get so excited.
” i am a 60 year old woman ..”
Hee! Senile dementia, anyone?
That’s rich coming from a vacuous little airhead like yourself, Buddha. Go flog your 1000% marked up garbage to someone who gives a fuck.
I see the reviews of your store on Yelp are pretty much dead on. Check it out, blobble-head.
What you need, my lady, is a group of 60 year old females on fixed incomes to go into your store and finger all them fancy goods.
Don’t dish it out, sweetheart, if you can’t take it. Or are you going to make another outraged phone call, Buddha? Go for it.
one nice thing about senile dementia is that some peoples remarks fall through my brain like small rice thru a sieve.
or like dried maggots i suppose. i only retain the good, meaty chunks. minutiae – poof!
Buddha’s just a silly little jughead with all the class of a cross-eyed cockroach. Amazing how she manages to run a business with her sneering demeanour – OH, I FORGOT – SHE’S A WEALTHY ‘HAD-IT-HANDED-TO-HER’ BRAT! She can never fail! She can sit on her privileged rump roast all day and pump out her catty little remarks while the underlings hawk the frills and froth.
And the Canadian dollar keeps going down, down, down – how soon will it be before these excruciating greedy high-end businesses go down the sewage tube? Oh, well, it doesn’t matter to our Princess, Buddha, she’ll just set up another crap shack and wait for it to shit diamonds.
It’s kind of sad when people, who have been clearly called on their bullshit by pretty much everyone on this board, keep coming back for more ridicule.
Like, have a little dignity.
I heard dignity cost $350 a DD cup, Kitster.
Oh NO OB ! ! !
Its snowing again.
We need to get whom ever does it to make a declaration of State of Emergency called ….
ASAP ~;P
^^ i am having a ‘snow day’ more….i get to shovel SNOW! on the driveway woo woo!
Same as me Molly, I get to shovel some, go to my favorite Java place, come home, shovel some more, lol.
i bribed di with copious amounts of irish cream laced espresso.
I really hope your dementia didn’t make you mix up the irish cream with drano, molly.
After 60, you gotta check yo’ self twice, obvs.
This is a little off topic but I have a question for T.T. : What do you use to colour your pictures with? I’ve been messing around with watercolour paints and water colour pencils, I’ve also tried your standard run-of-the-mill crayola markers/pencil crayons but I can’t get the look that I want – maybe I am using the wrong type of paper *watercolour paper* or there is some technique or tool that I’m unaware of. Going for a more polished, smooth look. Any advice would be appreciated.
I’m a cartoonist, Hoisty, I don’t do colour. When I was working, I used Photoshop and Illustrator for my projects – haven’t done the old school stuff in a few decades – what I remember is that the paper is very important. Porous, cheap paper will suck your markers/paints up in no time so try a smoother paper for your watercolours. It’ll cost you a little more but it’s worth it. If I ever get back to colouring my stuff by hand, I’d go with pen and ink, old school, and watercolour washes.
Awesome, thanks T.T. – I don’t usually colour my stuff either but I have started on a project that could use colour, I’m not above photoshop though – will look into it. Thanks again!
My newest strip will be 50% PS, 50% my own hand drawn graphics – I always hated lettering and have a treasure trove of terrific fonts plus tons of PS effects – also want to explore animation – have a few friends in the biz and have been getting tons of great advice.
T.T you’re living in an old bungalow, driving an old car, etc because of that damn trophy wife. JK.
Not sure what you’re getting at, Bro Tim – my honey and I could afford better things on our salary but choose not to. Why drive an brand new SUV when a ten year old car (that’s paid for) suits us just fine? Why live in an overpriced crapshack condo when we can fix our pile over the next couple of years? Why spent $250 on a bra when Walmart will sell you ten at the same price?
T.T., it was a joke. You know, the ex got the gold mine and I got the shaft.
“Hee! Senile dementia, anyone?”
Untalented drunk with a God complex, anyone?
^^ hmph! I have many talents sir, but my parole officer refuses to let me speak of them here.
the god complex, yeh, i’ll own up to that.
