I am stoked that you’re out having a fun time with your pup and not just keeping it locked up inside but I am begging you to show a basic level of respect. Being a dog owner doesn’t mean you can just act like a total piece of shit. Two tiny things you can do to be a decent person and dog owner:
1) That fenced in dog park by the Commons/Centennial Pool is for service dogs only. You’re straight up human garbage if you think that just because it isn’t being used you can bring your greyhound, pitbull or whatever in there to run around. It’s empty because service dog owners can’t go in there because you assholes have taken it over. If you prioritize your own wants over the needs of service dogs and their owners then you need to take a serious look in the mirror.
2) Stop taking your dogs to Conrad’s beach and letting them off the leash. I am happy folks have discovered the nicest beach in the HRM but it’s also the habitat of the Piping Plover, a protected species. When you bring your dog there and just let it run around off leash its digging up the places where these birds live. Their nests aren’t up in the grass, they’re on the beach just above the high water mark. When your dog is out there digging around and playing s/he’s destroying the homes of a species that might not exist in a decade or two. Just take your dog to Point Pleasant or a lake or even bring it along to Conrad’s but keep it on a leash and stay near the entrance. —Just please stop being an asshole

You should pay for some anal discovery.
#3. Leash your dog unless you are at home or in a dedicated off-leash area. Allowing your 100lb+ dog to roam free in downtown Dartmouth is NOT OK. I don’t know your dog and won’t hesitate to scream and kick if someone’s unleashed dog decides to come over to me. I don’t care if they just want to say hi-they can fuck off.
Kick my fucking dog, leash or no leash, and you’re looking for a beat down you won’t soon forget.
I guess by the dislikes I got its OK to kick a defenseless animal “if they just want to say hi”, but not OK to kick the person who kicked said animal. How nice, what a world we live in. IMO, vigilante justice is just that, vigilante justice. Your violence will be matched with violence, your choice!!!
Seriously people learn to leash your fucking animals. When I owned a dog (Golden lab; died of cancer) I kept him on his leash at all times, as a sign of fucking respect. Leash laws are there for a fucking reason you morons. They are there to not only protect the other people, but to protect your own fucking animal. Seriously if your animal suddenly jumps onto another bystander and they call fucking animal control, guess what, You get a fucking fine, a goddamn criminal fucking record, and the possibility of your pet being euthanized.
The poor dogs are just doing their dog thing and do not have a sense of human responsibility. In public areas it is their owners who should be showing that they have a modicum of common sense and take care of their animals and be sure that they are under control and on a leash etc., unless in an actual off leash area. Other than that you are just showing that you really do not care for your pet or your fellow humans.
Good luck with any of it. People are assholes, if dogs could blush in embarrassment they would.
The park by the Centennial Pool is not for service dogs. That’s at 6424 Almon Street. See? https://www.halifax.ca/facilities/ServiceDogExerciseArea.php
Yeah, the park behind centennial is no longer service dog only. The city is too lazy/cheap to change the signs.
