I can totally relate to needing to keep your personal hygiene at its highest at all points in the day, especially when it comes to your period. But seriously, there is no need to boil your diva cup in a communal kettle used to make tea and coffee for over 30 people. Some of those people work overnight shifts and need tea or coffee to keep them going for 8 straight hours when nothing is happening.

Now, I’m without water (because I poured my water into the kettle without realizing what would come of it) AND I can’t make tea. Please, please, PLEASE refrain from doing this in the future.

  1. I did not even know what a diva cup was until I just wiki-ed it and lo and behold it was just what I imagined the name must imply but was thinking surely not, because why on earth would anyone think that sterilizing their diva cup in a communal kettle is in any way socially or personally acceptable?

And why does the disposable menstrual managment industry have control of the market to the point where this option is not well known to women? If we have to be subjected to dispoasable product tv ads why not diva cup ads?

  2. LOL, Holy Shit…I don’t know whether I’ll puke from laughing or just puke!!!

That is utterly disgusting OP…You might want to throw the kettle and cup out with the dish-bitch…

  3. You should print this bitch off, OP and stick it to the kettle. The pig boiling the diva cup in a communal kettle’ll get the point.

…though, given the fact that she thought it was appropriate in the first place to use a communal appliance for such activities…it’s kind of a toss up.

  4. Just fucking sick. Yeah I had to look it up too. Can we call her a douche? Does it fit here?

Here’s an idea. Buy a new kettle and hide it. Then have one of the guys (or girls) put in a used condom in the old kettle and make sure the nasty twat sees it. But I doubt she’ll get the message.

  5. Firstly, the Diva Cup is an awesome invention. But that’s totally gross. I really can’t understand why anyone would think that’s appropriate or sanitary. Yuck.

  6. Tell EVERYONE at work… Everyone has the right to know if they are drinking diva cup coffee. Hopefully the guilty one will hear about it and be embarrassed when everyone starts making a big deal about it… gross!

  7. OP, you could start an office “Roll Up The Rim To Win” contest. She might get the point.

  8. Utterly disgusting. I use tampons and barely glance at them after they are used! I can’t wait for that pill that stops your period. Hurry, science! Hurry!

  9. Report what happened to the OHS committee at your workplace. Boiling menstrual supplies in the break room kettle is unsanitary and fucking gross.

  10. Lisababe, it may interest you to know that when the birth control pill was originally invented, the intention was that it be taken continually—that is, no 7 day “break” to give you a faux-period.

At that time, many people were worried that that was too “unnatural”, so they added the “break” custom to help people feel better about it. But really, it’s not a real period, and you still can’t (or usually can’t) get pregnant during the “break” so the difference is purely a matter of familiarity, not practicality or health.

New research is indicating that there ARE very good health reasons for giving up “the break.” After all, the hormones in the pill essentially mimic those that your body produces when you are pregnant—you can’t get pregnant because you already “are”, or so your body believes.

I know that many people do have serious side effects from the pill. BUT, keep in mind that there are now hundereds of different dosages available today, many of which are much, much lower in hormones than they were even 10-20 years ago.

WHY am I telling you this, when I suspect you probably already know? Because my doctor RECOMMENDED the “no period” pill plan to me about 10 years ago and it has changed my life. That’s right, no periods for almost 10 years—most days I feel GREAT, with no hormonal ups and downs. And no more godamned tampons, pads or (gag) “diva cups” to waste my time and money.

The research into this is growing. I really recommend you look into it yourself. There are a bunch of us “free” women out here and we are doing GREAT!
