You all know i’m not a perky morning person. I drag my ass until i wake up, and after a little caffiene i’m fine. (I’ve always been that way, and if i ever do change into one of those perky morning people, please shoot me.)

Why must you badger me for the first hour of work, with questions like ‘Are you OKAY??’ ‘Are you cranky?’ – and my personal favorite, from the guys – ‘Is it the time of the month?’ No, you idiotic fucks. I’m just tired. Now leave me the hell alone and let me get my work done. It’s the only reason i’m here.

  1. I’m a perky morning person, and there’s nothing more irritating to me than an ass-dragger.. Is it so hard to smile and not act miserable when you first come in? It sets the tone for the rest of the day, I find.

  3. well nothing aggravates a “non-perky morning person” more than some smile machine bombarding us with annoying questions at 8-9am…

  4. Or even better, “why don’t you smile”? Some of us have faces that don’t smile, it doesn’t we’re sad, mad, or whatever. Some people just don’t have expressive faces.

  5. I’ve always been bad for the “are you cranky” line. It infuriates me to no end, so I could be in a perfectly fine mood, until you ask my if I’m cranky, in which case I’m now pissed.

  6. If someone asked me in a professional setting if it was “that time of the month” I’d probably kick it in the crotch.

    That’s just unprofessional.

But so is being bitchy to co workers, and that includes being hostile and pissy when you first come in. No one gives a fuck if you’re tired, it’s unprofessional and uncalled for for being pissy to anyone in a work setting regardless of your circumstance.

  7. I didn’t get the impression that the OP was actively being rude – just quiet and unsmiling, which I would be too if I was tired. Not the same as being rude or an “ass-dragger” (what kind of ass dragger “just wants to be left alone to get their work done?”).
Unless they work in customer service, in which case it could be argued that it’s their job to smile.
Some people seem to have the mistaken impression that if you’re not smiling, it must mean you’re depressed. They then as People Are Stupid have mentioned, take it one step further and feel entitled to let you know they think you look grumpy. Unfortunately you can’t turn the tables on them and tell them they look like a bug eyed grinning maniac.

  8. I didn’t get that impression either…
just a person who likes a quiet morning without everyone’s sunshine raining down on her and, so long as it’s not in the job description, seems fine with it.

nothing gets people more riled up than “are you ok?”, “you seem cranky”, “what’s up?”, “why so glum?”, “can I do anything to help?” over and over and over….

if you work a front desk or retail though, you may want to paint the smile on with a makeup brush.

  9. Corporate accounts payable, Nina speaking. JUST a moment! Corporate accounts payable, Nina speaking. JUST a moment! Corporate accounts payable, Nina speaking. JUST a moment! Corporate accounts payable, Nina speaking. JUST a moment! Corporate accounts payable, Nina speaking. JUST a moment! Corporate accounts payable, Nina speaking. JUST a moment! etc…

That’s the type OP sounds like she is complaining about. Man is that grating.

My solution for OP: Work nights (if feasible). Works for me.

  10. As long as my co workers are doing their work I dont care if they are in fact cranky… and I deff would not ask them about it, because I dont care… and those ppl asking the op about it I bet half of them dont care either they just like to hear them selves talk, pretty common theme in offices in my experience.

My only problem would be if dragging my ass means I dont do any work in the first hour and just drink my coffee and sit there and look pissed off… because if that is the case “are you ok?” prolly doesnt mean are you ok it means hey is there a reason I’m doing both of our work?

Or you could get up an hour earlier have your coffee and not be such a cunt at work?
