(Before everyone gets on my ass about this bitch, please note, I’ve already spoken to the conglomerate in question and am waiting on their resolution, so thanks in advance for refraining from the “why are you not talking to the company about it instead of anonymously bitching” comments).
Due to a bank error (YES, an ACTUAL bank error), I had a recent payment bounce. The bank made good on their error, (YAY BANK!!!) but the company I was paying sent me a letter telling me they were rescheduling my payment for a later date. (So far, nothing to bitch about, right?)
EXCEPT that the letter they sent was dated on a Wednesday for a reschedule of the payment on the following Monday. I didn’t receive said letter UNTIL the Monday, which means the 5 business days for the bank to investigate and correct their error hadn’t happened yet, and I didn’t have time to make arrangements to transfer the funds from one account to another, OR for the bank to contact the company to take responsibility.
So now, not only do I have a bounce fee from the company for the FIRST payment, and a bounce fee from the company for the SECOND payment, I also have a bounce fee from my BANK for the second payment attempt.
Maybe you head office douchebags should figure out that it takes longer than 2 business days to receive a letter coming from Toronto, AND since you require a minimum of 4 business days for ME to change a payment, it might behoove you to send something out a little fucking earlier.
Oh, and when your bounce fees amount to twice what someone *apparently* couldn’t pay in the first place, how do you expect someone to pay TWO of them? —I’ll just get into my time machine and make that happen for you…
This article appears in Pop Explosion.

Well, serves you right for being poor.
Seems like the company and banks are giving it to you up the ass all around OP.
I fucking hate those nsf fees…
and this is exactly why.
Shitty timing on payments can make the bank 30 bucks a pop.
rediculous
Are you really spread that thin? Crikey!
Why would you not have time in FIVE days to make a transfer? It is login …. select transfer ….. choose two accounts …. click agree. Simple.
Yup what Koda said, it sucks the Bank screwed up on you but relying on them to fix it quick is not good thinking and you should have made the time for the transfer.
He didn’t receive the notice from head office until the same day they attempted to process the payment the second time, leaving him no time to make the transfer. Legit bitch, I’d say.
Ever heard of overdraft?????def an asset to avoid these types of situations because these types of “errors” happen far to often……
Canada Post mail delivery standards say that anything coming from one province to another takes 4 business days minimum.
By my count, and OB’s post, *if* the company *actually* sent the letter out with the post on the Wednesday , that makes delivery on the Monday (4 business days). Which is debatable – when I date correspondence, it’s dated the day it was printed, and usually goes out in the afternoon mail run, which tacks on at least one more business day.
*I* get my mail when I walk in the door after work, which means about 6 pm – after business hours for most companies. So even though it may have been a simple matter if moving money from one place to the next, the payment would have been put through already.
I call legit bitch.
sounds like a legit bitch but….. if the payment was indeed less than the overdraft fee then op’s bank account is running way too close to the line to avoid stuff like this in future. what if your paycheque is late by a day because of their foul up? if you run nsf on a 15-20$ payment you really should start cutting somewhere to stock up a bit of money in your account. I know it may seem crazy to have money just ‘sitting there’ but it will save you in future.
this wasn’t a 9,000$ nsf, you said it was less than the bank charge. not good op, not good.
Yeah… ok. So what happened to you sucks op. And it’s a dick move on the part of the company you’re dealing with AND the bank (Yes. The bank too.)
But, and some people have already said this, you’re clearly living paycheck to paycheck. This is a bad way to live but i’m assuming that you’re on top of this and it’s how things are right now so fine.
But one suggestion I’d really like to make here. DO NOT use checks or direct withdrawal when you live like this. Because it’s clear that you’re barely making ends meet and the difference of 24 hours can mean the difference between getting an NSF fee and not getting an NSF fee.
In some cases I suppose you have to. Most landlords require post dated checks but in that case, ask your landlord if you can make alternate arrangements and, if not, call them the second something like this happens.
It sounds like you’re on top of things, despite the fact that you’re not saving anything yet. So if it makes you feel any better, this is likely a one-off shitstorm that won’t happen again.
NSF charges are ridiculously onerous though I understand their purpose. Not sure why you couldn’t transfer the funds from another account between the Wednesday and the Monday, the date the payment to the company was moved to. Am I missing something?
Now that Dexter has gone, and the Libs are in power, your living standards will miraculously improve, NSP will drop their rates, water will be free, property taxes will be halved, liquor stores will be privatised, Cape Breton union idiots will finish grade 7 (again), and Lord God Almighty/Allah/Karma (whichever deity you believe in) the fucking buses will run on time, have courteous drivers and baby mamas will finally get sterilised.
As you obviously work in either retail or a call centre, go West and make some real dosh and avoid being the Banks Bitch.

Crispy…
transferring from banks like ING can take several business days to process.
They’re handy as savings accounts since you literally can’t get at the money to impulse spend (unless you request and activate a debit card) but that’s also the downside as well.
ic Zed. OP needs to invest in banking with a little more flexibility. Just for cases like this.
Lol thumbs up for the time machine sarcasm
Jesus, the Liberals can’t make Metro Transit run on time if god can’t make the buses run on time in the friggin city.
Op, this is Canada the land of opportunity. I suggest that you figure out a lifestyle where you never need to miss payments and get upset with NSF fees.
WHAT IS THE ISSUE HERE?
I suppose the underlying issue is that of the little man up against the big corporation although the poster did not draw out this philosophical dimension. The result was simply an eye-wateringly dull factual account of the minutiae of his financial sparring with the bank. Oh God, our help in times of tribulation! I put my head down on my desk and wept with boredom.
A pleasure as always.
Cheerio!
So OB, the general consensus is that it was your fault, yup YOUR fault, for living paycheck to paycheck. Its also entirely your fault for not having overdraft too. Weird, because not everyone can get an overdraft and some people have to live paycheck to paycheck for reasons that are not immediately fixable.
So, once again, its all your fault, OB!
GV (and whoever agrees with them)- Maybe they are trying really hard to improve their situation. But, it takes time and bullshit like this keeps getting in their way.
Also, just had re-iterate that you’re an idiot for any of this happening, OB.
Overdraft is credit. Not everyone wants to lower their credit score and add debt to their debt ratio.
The bank fucked up so the bank should cover those nsf charges.
Now, if ob did have the cash, but had it in another account, it’s always helpful to just transfer some cash over in instances like this just in case.
Call the bank, ob, and tell them the situation and tell them you’re considering taking your business elsewhere. They’ll probably offer some compensation (reduce the fees for example). If they don’t: take your business elsewhere. Banks get enough fees from us that they shouldn’t be fucking up like this.
YOU DON’T LIKE MAKING PAYMENTS FOR BILLS OWED?
SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM!
I wouldn’t say this is all op’s fault, full stop. We don’t know this person’s circumstances but it sounds like they’re at least monitoring their bank activity which means they’re trying.
This could be a student who had to make their own way and just recently became employed. Savings take time to build up.
Op can learn a few lessons here without being totally at fault.
