Mmmm Id have to GREATLY disagree. Being from newfoundland, I know that once upon a time, WE had the highest tuitition fees in the country, our students faught so hard for it, now we have some of the lowest of the country.. Geee, whoda thunk? ha
Historically, NS students achieved the first ever reduction of tuition fees this year: a $440 ‘discount’ to every student from Nova Scotia (students outside NS were out of luck). A start, but not enough. Thats why we protested, to make sure this government keeps it’s promise to reduce tuition fees to the national average in 5 years. Direct action works. Being cynical doesn’t.
And when you’re in the hospital after a car accident, there’ll be no one there to pull the radiator out of your ass because all the doctors will be retired and all the potential replacements will be serving you coffee and selling you shoes to pay for their final year in school.Welcome to the real world!
Don’t feed the trolls. :)Seriously, though, there are plenty of working class citizens who care lots about this issue. I graduated debt free thanks to my parents and working during school, but I’m one of the fortunate few, and that was almost a decade ago. I shudder to think about tuition costs now, particularly when job prospects here really aren’t what they need to be to keep people around. When my niece is ready to attend university… let’s just say I’m hoping my 6/49 investment plan pays off.
Sorry, guys but I’m seeing it from both sides of the fence here. I mean,yes, I’m eyeballs deep in debt cuz of university, but no, I don’t think that protesting makes too much of a difference. Seriously, I know what you students are feeling (shit just wait till you have to pay those mother fuckers at the Student Loans Centre back when you’re done!!), and I know that “28, handsome, employed” was kind of a dick about the whole coffee/shoes comment (don’t be a dick, man) but just imagine what the very people the protestors are trying to convince are doing while they freeze outside? They are sitting in nice comfy offices laughing at the fact that they are warm and now debt-free. Truth is, they were probably in debt when they finished school too, so you shouldn’t expect any sympathy. Unfortunately, though, no one has thought of any other way to get this point across so, Protest away Students! (But keep thinking of something a little more effective while you’re at it). Good Luck to all of you working your asses off in school! Winter break is almost here!

It does suck that tuition is increasing every year. It’s because of that I am an NSCC student. Don’t get me wrong Dal was my first choice but NSCC is a good school. By the sounds of things you don’t have any education 28/h/e..since you are so excited people can’t afford to go to university. You’re obviously a fabulous person…one that enjoys watching other people suffer and struggle. But that’s ok 28/h/e people like you get what’s coming to them sooner or later. 🙂
