Those hideous and insulting scenic scaffolds that tried to be art, erected near the Dartmouth and Halifax ferry terminals had to go! Nobody, resident or visitor, needs to be told which way to face to admire the many facets of the jewel that is our harbour. Seems some individual(s) on the Dartmouth side hove that abomination into the harbour! Bravo! Curiously, the it’s Halifax counterpart remains.
And the question comes to mind: why would this project be approved, where someone from another province is hired to come here to show us what is magnificent about our unique world class harbour, as if we aren’t capable of accomplishing this on our own? If we must have art on the waterfront at least let it be something that adds to the beauty of it’s environment instead of detracting from it. These structures are embarrassing and insulting at the same time. If that was the intent then it is well accomplished. —CC Cowgirl

I’m waiting for somebody to dynamite the big gray tongue down by the Maritime Museum. Or is it meant to be an expressionistic rendering of the stomach lining of someone suffering from mal-de-mer?
Also, the exploded penis at Dal and the curvy concrete wall on Q-pool. 70’s are over folks – rehab worked for most of us.
Being embarrassing and insulting is the Halifax city hall way!! If it isn’t embarrassing or insulting to Haligonians, why do it???? That’s what happens when your city is taken over by bums from Bedford and Ecum Secum, etc. The main problem, imo, is that these people have NO IDEA what Halifax is, what our identity/history is, and think if it doesn’t come from TO then it can’t be any good. It’s sad, but all part of our neo colonial heritage. It’s embarrassing and insulting.
it’s all in how you look at it o.p.
Are we talking about the temporary installation done by the architecture students? Someone threw it into the harbour? Why?
OP, what the fuck are you getting at, you’re more than a little incoherent.
I blame NASCAD. Oh and the “exploded penis” statue was made by a feminist.
I’m gobsmacked by this revelation Seb. I really am. >; )
I don’t understand why no one has painted ‘the tongue’ red . IT Screams to be red !
I wonder how long the Halifax 2 x 4 structure will last now that it’s Dartmouth twin went with the tidal flush. Or maybe we could hope for another good storm before hurricane season winds down for the year. I guess art is like beauty, found in the eye of the beholder, but those things were just plain effin ugly.
More, they’ve actually done that a couple times over the past decade or so.
I’m completely lost here…
moi aussi brendon
Well at I’m not the only one.
at least*
pain-sis and bren: it’s about a pair of wooden structures compiled of 2 x 4’s nailed together for people to stand on which point them in an appropriate direction to admire the view of the harbour. (snicker) I’ve seen these. First impression was that some 6 year olds were trying to build a fort. Each was located near the Halifax and Dartmouth ferry terminals. Apparently, a person, or persons on the Dartmouth side thought it so objectionable that it necessitated removal. The close proximity to the harbour was apparently too tempting. It’s like it was interactive art, I guess, the viewer objected and acted accordingly. It’s true that they were/are ugly and embarrassingly unnessesary.
merci beaucoup all-seeing chickpeasis^^
There are truly some amazing things being done in the area by our woefully underfunded ar(t)se community (or so I’ve heard). Scuttlebutt has it that next summer’s interractive art installation will involve ripping up the pavement on selected major throughfares for about 3 months or so. I for one cannot wait >: )
Ah I understand now. That does seem rather stupid.
