I just read his column ‘Don’t lesbian it into the ground’. Using the word lesbian in a pejorative way is a little gay don’t you think? Oops. Sorry, that’s not a respectful use of the word ‘gay’ is it. Please don’t turn out to be a lesbian hating gay guy that would just suck. Keep the ‘lesbian’ hating/stereotype words in the trash can where they belong. —Liked Dan Until Now

come lesby friends everyone..:)
I couldn’t agree more LDUN.
Besides, the proper phrase is “Don’t sebastian it up the wrong ass.”
Sexual Proclivity sensitivity and grammatical correctness embiggens us all.
(Don’t bitch to me; it’s a perfectly cromulent word)
Take a Midol, and get over it
it’s a sad sad day when the mo’s and the lesbonians are diss’n each other..:)
..how about : non -gender based life experience guidance counselor day
I’ve always hated Dan Savage … no real reason why just found him insufferable.
I think I remember the Savage Love you’re referring to OB. I don’t think he was using it in a derogatory way but I’m not a lesbian so I wouldn’t be offended either way. IMO you’re over reacting but hey, that’s your right, if it really offended you then your bitch is valid, just make sure you aren’t trying to be offended or reaching. I would hope for all his grandstanding that Dan is a huge supporter of the entire LGBT (is that the right acronym?) community, including the L, which is for lesbians.
LESBIANS. lol I just like that word.
‘Political correctness is America’s newest form of intolerance, and it is especially pernicious because it comes disguised as tolerance. It presents itself as fairness, yet attempts to restrict and control people’s language with strict codes and rigid rules. I’m not sure that’s the way to fight discrimination. I’m not sure silencing people or forcing them to alter their speech is the best method for solving problems that go much deeper than speech.’ – George Carlin
Brilliant TTFN, Carlin really was a god amongst men. It’s damn near impossible to disagree with him.
In memory of a great thinker:

Man, I miss that guy. If I were to worship any deity, it’d be him. Probably get more answers than the other old white bearded dude.
“Don’t lesbian it into the ground” was said because the person who wrote the letter to Dan was overthinking every little nuance and aspect, missing the big picture, and was in danger of messing up by doing so.
I believe Dan was saying this is a lesbian thing to to do.
Of this I have no knowledge, but when I read it I laughed.
And as a member of a minority group or two, I’m not a fan of sanitizing language. When something is mean-spirited it’s a whole other issue, but being included in others’ reindeer games means, IMHO, that these folks are being included.
I loved George Carlin TTFN! He can be quoted on almost anything.
OP I don’t think savage meant it the way your taking it. He was saying that the girl was so concerned about being a lesbian that she wasn’t just going with her gut I believe. She was questioning herself and the rules and regulations of being a lesbian. He was just saying not to beat her behavior to dealth and do what feels right. I’m just guessing here…I like Dan but don’t agree with him all that much. I’m a prude 🙂
Yo OP, the column isn’t called “Don’t Lesbian it into the Ground” it’s called “Safety Valve”.

You can put this bitch in it’s proper context by reading the exchange in question (second question down).
The gist is, Dan warns a lesbian not to ‘lesbian’ her relationship into the ground by over communicating about her sex life with her partner who doesn’t want to talk about it.
He’s not using the word ‘lesbian’ to describe ‘all things bad’ like the way ‘gay’ is used. He’s using it to describe something that at least one lesbian is doing according to her question, ‘over communicating’. Personally I think you’re overeating. There are worse ways ‘lesbian’ could be used than as a synonym for ‘over communication’.
If you have a problem with it OP, tell him.
Ahhh I see. Point taken Snoop but … I still hate him.
Unless it’s about pegging watermelons, I rarely read it.
Depends, are they six feet under in the ground?
i miss carlin too ttfn, i’m reading “last words” more like an autobiography than anything but a great read
Pretty sure Dan Savage encouraged people to send angry emails/letters to a school in the states to voice the disapproval of that school cancelling its prom due to a lesbian couple planning to attend. I’ve been reading the column for 3-4 years now, and he’s never voiced hatred toward the lesbian community (aside from their vagoos — grossed out by those).
