Nevermind this bull that once a parking ticket has been issued it can not be voided… Just so all you know, these morons can void it even though they say they can’t. They have nothing to lose. They don’t make commission on giving out tickets, just a shitty hourly wage. Seriously, next time you issue a ticket and someone is literally one minute too late and they tell you to stop, void the f*cken ticket. Thank you!—Pissed at our downtown parking enforcers

  1. Every ticket is accounted for. The Enforcement Officer wouldn’t have their job too long if every other ticket they issued was marked void. But then the OB would probably expect the clerk at Tiimies to give him an extra large for the price of a medium because he’s a few cents short.

  2. Here’s a tip that I use all the time; overpay. What is it? An extra couple of bucks? That beats the nuts out of paying for a parking ticket.

  3. psst hey OP… there is the Mic Mac mall, Bayers Lake, Dartmouth Crossing to name 3 of the many places in Halifax area that have FREE PARKING, (just trying to get more people away from downtown)
    ~:)

  4. dartmouth crossing is a hole.
let’s take all the problems with bayers lake… fix them at any cost… and create a whole new set of issues. bleh, never going there unless I absolutely have to.
    jysk for example.

  5. What a stupid bitch. That’s like cursing the cops cause they caught you driving a few minutes BEFORE your blood alcohol would have been at a legal level. Shut up.

  6. As long as stupid people park in stupid places, my taxes don’t go up. So go ahead, park illegally and get more tickets.

  7. Same goes for credit card companies, apparently — they go on about how they can’t lower your interest rates or if it’s in collections can’t take it off your credit report, but according to a financial seminar I went to a little while ago they can.

    HA!

This bitch reminded me of that.

Also: if you don’t want a parking ticket put enough coin into the meter.

  8. HRM has an entire division Parking Enforcement which is different from the police. The police deal with serious crime. The parking enforcement people have a mandate to write as many tickets as possible. THIS IS THEIR JOB. So as much as I agree with the complaint, they are only doing their job.

The good news. You can go to court twice (yes once to plea) then another for your trial where you go up against a crown laywer (that is fair…) and make your opinions known at least to the judge and annoyed crown lawyer and everyone else who did similar things. Go in prepared and you may have a 30% chance of winning but dress well and be respectable. Bow to the judge as you enter and make sure that they see you out of the corner of their eye. You will still loose but you will look professional.

In the end, the HRM budget surprisingly is covered very little from traffic tickets. All those people out there account for about 8% of the annual HRM budget. This probably does not cover the cost of the Police annually but is less than property taxes which I believe carry the weight.

Yes it pisses me off too but if they can pave a few more roads for those of us who don’t abide by the law, then so be it. It would be cheaper to have fewer car repairs for the dam craters than tickets.
