So my internet has been down for three days, so I called the company’s consumer service line and end up wasting 45 minutes talking with some trained monkey who doesn’t even know how to solve the problem. Said monkey transfers me to another brain dead primate who knows just as little as the first. When I asked if they could send out a technician, they said they are unable to schedule one for several weeks because their technicians will be busy connecting lines/internet for the returning students. WTF. I’ve been a paying customer of this overpriced bundled mess of communications for years, and this is how they treat me. Finally in frustration I hang up on them, problem still not resolved after an hour and 20 minutes on the phone. Thank you very much, I’m switching providers. —BS

Nice timing, you are still screwed for the next few weeks.
Don’t bother switching, they’re all the same
Yeah. I had a problem with my phone and internet with an eastern link back in 2007 when I moved into my current building. It was February and it still took them three weeks to come out to fix my shit. Apparently the tech who set it up didn’t put the cord in the telephone room properly and it fell out (!).
Since then we’ve switched providers and Im’ pretty happy with our service. Always been able to fix my problems when I’ve had one and actually hooked up my internet through the network panel in my laundry room instead of just leaving it on the floor in the spare room like the other provider.
Only thing I’m not happy with is the pricing on the new fibre optic service. They wanna charge me 20 bucks more for the same TV service I have now, and that blows. With long distance we already pay those buggers $245/month!
Ah well.
Anyway, I find the eastern link is crappy with customer service for existing customers, but great with new service (they’re always knocking on our door telling us about the new promotions they have. The other major provider is decent enough with customer retention, I find, and they’ve always been friendly to deal with.
I might be able to help. Will you ask?
hey jc, how’s it hanging?
20 Minutes is not a very long time to wait. They aren’t in front of your computer so it’s hard to help immediately. You shouldn’t have hung up.
Jesus Christ! Awesome! OK – I take it all back! Forgive me?
Yeah, I’ve had my issues with Eastlink, but Aliant cable is straight booty. And I’ll never get a satellite dish, unless it’s an illegal american one.
“straight booty”?
I believe it means something like “the bees knees” PG :D. Teehee I was hoggin’ an East tech today, so sorry.
i see, what were you doing with said tech? http://images.icanhascheezburger.com/compl…
I got a call today from a linky rep….
Yeah ,it seems they can save me a bunch of money .
Really I say !
Seems if I add cable & home phone service in a ‘bundle’ to my internet it’ll only cost $99.00 a month.
?
?
Please forgive me if I seem stupid, but I only pay $56.00 now !?!?!?!
I don’t have a home phone, just cel phones,
I don’t watch TV, so I don’t need cable.
SO isn’t paying 99 dollars a month $43 dollars MORE than what i’m paying now ????
Exactly how is that saving me money ? ? ? ?
I believe the linky rep, has really bad math skills ~;p
He’s just trying to sell you more services.
And that 99 bucks a month is only for a limited amount of time…. I think it’s 2 months free and 10 months at the 99 dollar rate. Or something.
It is hanging well paingirl it is hanging well.
No problem, Snubiz. I’m all about forgiveness. Didn’t I make myself clear during my last visit?
you mean yesterday messiah? corn is awesome, grind it up and you can make cookies
But ms. kitty
I don’t have any need of ‘more’ services.
I have cell phones, when I’m away, I got my phone…when I’m home same phone(s)
I don’t watch TV.
So paying for a home phone seems, well in this day & age, seems odd.
paying for TV….when i don’t watch it. Is a total waste of money.
Now if they want to give me cable & a home phone for 45 dollars a month, that’s cheaper than I’m paying now, so I’d go for that & they wouldn’t have to send out a tech, because I don’t want the phone or cable anyway but it would save me 11 bucks a month ~;)
The only problem I’ve had with the eastern folks is them haggling me to buy more shit. Also, a few months back they simultaneously increased my bandwidth and increased my monthly bill by $5.00 and it seemed like they were doing the former to justify the latter, but I can’t really be sure.
I have had much better service with the East than I ever did with Ma.
Eastlink is the best!!!
do what i do o.p., when service sucks and goes down. i just switch over to my wireless airlink usb thingy. gives me the same 54mbps as alian, or eastlink does. if works of linksys, and it is fantastic. i’m using it right now, as a matter of fact, and it’s running at 52 mbps right now.
Then tell him you’re an anti-television hippie, more-on. That’ll get rid of him.
Or if it’s Saturday, tell him you’re jewish and it’s your sabbath. That gets rid of ’em super quick.
Also: Bon’s local eastlink rep must be eating her stanky cooch out from the sounds of it!
I’m with the link all the way…
much faster speeds for the same price point.
sneaking in your tv lines, raping your internetz…
bell blows. and who the fuck CARES if you can now upload as fast as you download?
how much content is the average person uploading anyways???
the netz is there for you to rape…. not supply…
OP, don’t change yet. Call them up and ask to speak with their Cancellation Dept…..or even the Retention Dept. A friend of mine calls them up every year with complaints and keeps getting features for free and reduced monthly rates. He has the cheapest monthly rate I’ve ever heard of.
Honestly, I don’t like eastlink’s digital tv guide, and I loathe change, so I’d end up feeling all uneasy and just long to be back with bell. eastlink’s digital tv guide reminds me of my parents’ house before they sold it when it didn’t feel like ‘home’ anymore. Life of the anxious, what can I say?
Bell’s internet is fast enough for what I need it for (I really didn’t notice any change when I switched), but I WOULD love to go with fibre op, but *sigh* I’m not paying 20 bucks more to have what I already have now, tv-wise. I have pretty much every channel plus premium movies, and we’re paying enough for that as it is.
I have no choice but to deal with Eastlink because Aliant doesn’t offer digital cable where I live. I either go with EL or get a satellite dish. Hmmm…I live next to the ocean where there is an abundance of fog and the wind comes off the water on an almost continuous basis. Yeah. Sat dish not going to work.
It doesn’t matter who you deal with anyway. With only 2 major service providers in business here, we’re getting raped regardless. All you can do is grin and bear it because there are no other choices. One of the few things that I am envious of the States for is their low cost internet/cable/phone services.
