I have a crusher and it works great, it allows me to fit about 8 to 10 times as many pop cans into the same bin. Unfortunately, no one in Nova Scotia will refund my deposit because they are too paranoid that some of the cans might be from the USA. Why can’t you just take them? There are enough canadian popcans (with a deposit paid) that never make it back into the system to offset the american cans. PLUS, the depot takes a cut in every bottle or can they take from me, the least they could do is accept the crushed cans as a courtesy. —Crushed and Broke

  1. Ummm… Maybe now that you know the rules of recycling, you might try not crushing them. Sure it sucks, but thems the rules, and according to your bitch they aren’t changing them for you.

  2. So stop crushing the cans and get a larger upright bin with the same amount of floorspace. And JFC, how much of that crap are you drinking? you can stack like 24 cans in a regular-sized recycling bin.

  3. i don’t know where you heard that shit, recyclers will take any fucking can you throw at them, as long as it is the right metal. fuck me, they don’t give a fuck,if it comes by way of outer mongolia for shit’s sake. try john ross next time.

  4. I noticed people in ontario crushing them, but is not so here.
no idea why. Seems like a crock to me.

Donkey, remember beer comes in cans too.. not just sugar water.

  5. zzz they crush them in Ontario because they don’t recycle there. Just like the USA. They don’t recycle anything. To the landfill or ocean it all goes. To this day…..

  6. ok, that’s refrakkindicktasticulous…
I’ve seen their ‘blue bins’ in which said cans have top be placed….

I think you may be pullin’ me leg

  7. Seriously, do you think those high school dropouts who work at the recycling centers are going to care? They don’t bother checking that kind of shit.

  8. There’s no deposit on cans and bottles in ontario, but they do use the blue bins to recycle.

I asked a grocery manager in ottawa about deposits when I lived there and he said waht a lot of people do is keep their cans and go over to gatineau and bring them back to the depot for a refund. roflz.

I will admit though, I’ve always thought it was nice whenever I’ve been in ontario to not have to pay an extra $1.20 when I bought a 12 pack of cans of pop.

I believe ontario JUST got composting too. Or some parts, maybe. Kitchener, at least.

  9. valid bitch, OB. Alberta charges deposit, operates independantly own bottle depots, yet they still take crushed cans. Don’t listen to the guys that say it can’t be done. They are talking out their arse.

  10. I think you should bring them to the recycling place, and then proceed to crush each one on your forehead with an angry look on your face, then double crush with your can crusher so they know both that the cans are canadian, and that you are mad:)

  11. There is a deposit on glass, plastic and metal alcohol containers (bottles & cans) in Ontario. I crush all the tins and return everything to the Beer Store for refund. It adds up. Check out this link for more info:

NS is starting to appear so backwater, it’s embarrassing. Breaks my heart.
