Every Saturday morning the following exchange occurs at the market:
“Have you seen the crepe boy?”
“Yes, of course. He’s the reason I come to the market. A friend of my friend met him last year and said that he’s single!”
“No WAY, If I met him I wouldn’t know what to say. There’s no way he’s single… you think he could be? Maybe.”
“I hope so.”
“Oh my god he’s looking at me.”

Say the words “crepe boy” to any heterosexual female student of this city, single or taken—she’ll know who he is. He stares at you with his gargantuan blue eyes… for just a little too long… making you look left… then right… and then back at him, and think…”me?”

Rumour has it he sails italian sail boats off the south of France in the summers and loves getting up early to make crepes for the people of our city.

Crepe boy I thought you should know that we love you, and that you can have us by the heart strings with that spatula and black t-shirt. —Moon Struck Girl #37

  1. Yep, there’s good odds there…
single and has “any heterosexual female student of this city” drenching their panties.

    I believe that… never.
    He just SAYS he’s single.

  2. Phaw! Like looks and a bunch of cliche traits are really that sexy! Come on ladies, have some class!

I betcha I can solve statics equations better than he can. This metro-sexual hipster doesn’t have it where it counts.

….. and the crepes aren’t even that good!

  3. They wouldn’t know…
no-one seems to be able to talk to him.
They prefer to lust over the image rather than burst the bubble with actual, verbal conversation and genuine interest.

  4. sometimes extraordinarily good looking people are difficult for others to approach. not that they emit ‘keep away’ vibes, but people are hesitant to take the chance, thinking they would be rejected. i have heard of this from both sides.
eg the OP describes her response to a simple glance from him as ‘who me?’

  5. i’ve made lots of crepes, not a big favourite. made properly they can be good but oftentimes…rubbery

  6. i finally gave up on them. mine were floppy flappy discs that went wabba wabba wabba in the breeze.

oh hay, we’re supposed to be talking about crepes, right?

  7. “He stares at you with his gargantuan blue eyes… for just a little too long… making you look left… then right… and then back at him, and think…”me?” “

Yes you. He’s waiting for your damn order!

Crepes. Pffft. We call them pancakes down here in the Valley.

  8. Moonstruck Girl #37, you’ve made my day. CB is single for all/most intents and purposes and is one of the nicest guys I know. All the rumours you’ve heard are also true. Don’t be shy next time and just come over and say hello; CB is lovely to speak with (in English, French or Italian). He also makes heart-achingly beautiful crepes. If you have anything that’s broken, he can probably fix it too. Captain Leebob, there is absolutely nothing metro or hipster about CB; I am the crepe girl and I can claim to be an authority on these matters.

  9. Haha, no worries tanishatanisha! I was only joking around 🙂 I’ll admit to the adequacy of his crepes, and I really have no idea what kind of a person he is so I’m in no position to judge him.

So, If you’re crepe girl, then do you have the same effect on the gentlemen of this city? Do you rock the big eyes and almost uncomfortably long stares? How do you crepe?

  10. A crepe goddess, eh Furious? I may have to investigate this phenomenon. Are all crepe makers beautiful? Maybe I should change careers >;)

I joke! But seriously, I know what’s for breakfast this weekend.

  11. i remember there were lots of crepe restaurants in toronto, in the 80’s. you’re right zed, by the time you’ve tilted the pan around, they’re ready to flip

  12. Well, I don’t know if she was Sri Lankan, but there was a definite cutie making the crepes this morning. A real sweetheart!

  13. my goal is to find the real furious and give him some cookies plus i saw two perogie vendors. yum
