First and foremost I should get out that I’m possibly one of the biggest dog lovers out there.
That being said…there is a certain expectation of how your dogs should be controlled when in an off leash area. I was at Point Pleasant last week in the off leash area walking with my boyfriend. I heard a dog running up behind me full tilt. I just assumed it was going to run past me, but no. Without even slowing down the dog (a large one at that) ran smack into the back of both my legs throwing me forward. I twisted my ankle in the process of being pushed off my feet. Holding onto my boyfriend as to prevent me from falling to the ground and as I stand there on one foot, the owner just calls her dogs names and goes walking away.
I have been taking pain killers and have had my foot wrapped and can still just hobble around my apartment.
All I can say is thank god I wasn’t some little old lady. Your dog could have caused much more harm. Now I’m not even that upset with the dogs, what makes me angry is that the woman didn’t even come over to see if I was ok. She must have seen it happen. I was on one foot hanging off my boyfriend.
I’m all for off leash areas, in fact I think they are awesome, but please, if you have crazy dogs perhaps its not a good place for you to take them for a walk! Or at least have the dignity to apologize after they run people over!! —Control Your Pets!

A dog jumped up on you?! Horrors!
Your boyfriend should not have let you off the leash, even though you were rightly in an off-leash area!
OP sounds like you didn’t have a dog with you so why were you walking in a ‘dog’s off leash’ area? Unless you were walking your off leash dog you were in the wrong place at the right time. If I had no dog to walk I sure as hell wouldn’t be walking in a ‘dog off leash area’ unless you consider your boyfriend to be a dog. Just kidding. But seriously why???
koda, i ws thinking along the same line, but decided not to post it. big dogs can be a real pain in the ass. i knew a lady that had the biggest german shepard dog i had ever seen.” bear”, his name was, and that sucker was like a small horse. he stood almost 40 inches tall, and was about 200 pounds. whar a magnificent beast he was.
he finally died a couple years ago, at the ripe old age of 15. what a shame, glynda cried for days on end.
Sucks that you got hurt OB. Maybe the dog owner thought that you weren’r really hurt because you didn’t say anything. Or, they wanted to get the fuck away so you couldn’t sue.
But, you did learn a lesson right? When you hear something/someone coming up behind you quickly, take a look (and brace yourself) so you don’t get run over.

I’m with OB here. Off leash areas are great, but SET owners ruin these parts of public parks for everyone when shit like this happens.
Our older dog is fine around people, but he can’t always be trusted around other large breed male dogs. For this reason, we always keep him on-leash in public places. It’s just a part of responsible dog ownership, but unfortunately not everyone cares about that.
my parents had 2 huge samoyeds and if you didn’t have your feet planted firmly they could bowl you over. we never let them do it to unaware strangers
i’ve seen pictures of your dogs, poop. i am envious
Off-leash dog areas are not just for people with off-leash dogs, you fucking morons.
And do some reading up on what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior of dogs and their owners in these designated areas before commenting on how this person should not have expected a level of control on the dog owner’s part.

Paingirl – thanks! They both have such beautiful personalities. You’d love them 🙂
the bear yells at people from the shop door, asking if their dog wants a treat. some look nervous and scuttle by but the majority stop and schmooze
You’re hardcore animal lovers. I love people like you and the bear! 🙂
we have a sign *dogs welcome* i behave very foolishly around dogs and babies, it’s my advanced age. that’s a fib, i’ve been like this since birth, thanks ma

The comma makes all the difference! 🙂
And OF COURSE it’s okay to be in an off-leash park without a dog. Just watch out for the TROLLS that hang about!
🙂

haha, hugo, blue doesn’t sulk…he softly whines and i tell him to lay down
And tell the cyclists that they can’t ride through PPP on weekends or holidays.
The woman with the dogs should have yelled out and given you some warning OP and I agree she should have seen how you were. She may have been embarrassed by her dog’s behavior and didn’t want to face you. Hope your ankle gets better soon.
Hopefully this dog owner doesn’t have free-range children.
Sounds like you pulled a few ligaments in your ankle when the dog jumped up on you. That can hurt just as bad as a break or sprain. You should have used that set of gums in your head and spoke up – been like, hey lady, your shithound just attacked me and hurt my ankle. I can’t walk on it. Then get her information, call an ambulance and sue! People need to take responsibility for their untrained shithouds that they are just letting roam around the public.
“Then get her information, call an ambulance and sue!”
Spoken like a true slug. I guess if you grow up thinking that Ebonics is “cool” (and an actual language), suing productive members of society is your only income except for the government handout you get for being “bi-polar”. What was that about “responsibility”?
Ooooooooooo….. burn

And Montrealman is her thesis adviser.
Which is fine, just so long as we get credit.
Sorry about the ankle. Off-Leash areas are “Enter at your Own Risk” areas I’m afraid. If I’d heard something coming up behind me like that I would be quick to turn around. The owner should have still warned you the dog was coming. You should have said something. I was walking in a park area once, with no areas for dogs. A dog came running at me, full tilt, jumped and bit me! Not hard, but it still bit! The owner came up to me but said nothing. I said “Um, your dog just bit me”. The owner ignored me. I was too pissed off at that point and didn’t want to chance another bite if it got in her face. People need to respect the rules, on both sides.
dogshet an mor dogshet. what noow? tripen up peple with the lowsee dogs. su the basterds i sa. fekken dogs. i hat thum.
It isn’t “enter at own risk”, http://www.pointpleasantpark.ca/en/home/th…
I wonder if the dog was licensed? ha, ya right.
“You and your pet will be sharing the park…” says it all right there.
I meant “Enter at Your Own Risk” in general terms. Use your common sense? Street smarts? Expect the unexpected? Kinda like that?
Ah, got it.
