Now they want to start a coyote cull. Is this a good idea? While there are some very vicious animals around, our pets included here, there are also the very large number of those that aren’t.
Can we afford to pop up 20 bucks for a bounty, sure, why not? When you have millions wasted on inane things that these politions buy, out of our fucking money, that even we can’t afford to buy sometimes. Here’s the kicker, they are going to hire trappers, more trappers, and these will be the only ones to get the cash.
I sent an email to d.n.r. outlining why this was a bad idea. So here is the gist of it. You let hunters go into the woods to kill them, not trap alive and then kill them. Charge us 10 bucks for a license if they wish, never mind the fucking bounty, hunters would be there in droves to do something in off seasons.
Now for the people who don’t believe in killing any animal, whether senseless or not. Let me see you go to the areas where these things are, and not be eaten or maimed by even one of them. These suckers are getting more adapted to humans everyday, and also more aggressive to us. There has to be something done to stop this. Now the cull might not be the best way to go, but right now, it is the only way to curb the population explosion of them.
I have seen more coyotes in the last year, than in the 10 previous. There are far too many here. These are not the ordinary ones either, they are a hybrid of wolf/dog/coyote. And yes, we do have some wolves in this province, not many, but one is too much sometimes. So, let the hunters cash in on this shit too, and have an open season on them. If they only want x number killed, then so be it. The government made a mistake, in keeping this in house, and letting only the chosen few have a go at it. The best time to get these animals in in the fall, from September on through late May, When they mate and pup out.
I know all the whiners will eat me for this post, but put your kid in the middle of it, or your pets. Different story then, right? Let’s have a hunt, and may the best animal win.—LIFE SUCKS

Im just afraid people will get a lot overzealous and think this is like CoD or something and end up needlessly causing an animal who doesn’t know any better a great deal of suffering. Some people are just sick. seems to me a cull is……….overkill. i dont see why relocation isnt on the table. also, fuck a certain local news for that fear mongering, propaganda filled interview- but props to the interviewee for doing the best with those asinine question.
f7, relocation is not an option here, unfortunately. pick them up here, drop off somewhere else, and then it’s their problem.no, that will never work in this province, reason being, we are to small, and congested with humans. it might work out west, but shipping them there cost a lot of money. so, the hunt is on, and yes, all us rednecks will be gunning for them. but the real question here is why they are getting closer to us. the anmswer while quite simple is just that, too simple. clear cutting and people are incroaching on their natural habitat. the only way mankind can survive with his wild cousins, is too stop all this destroying of woodlands for the almighty buck, and stay out of their places, as we want them out of ours. but the hunt will go on no matter what. if i’m hunting deer, bear, moose, whatever, i will shoot and kill one, if i see it. better it than another deer, or rabbit, which are both going into decline, because of them. sorry, but it has to be.
And yes, we do have some wolves in this province, not many, but one is too much sometimes.
I do not beleive this statement. Please provide proof. I guess they live in the same area as the girafes.
Yes, DNR is going to publicly post proof of wolves in NS just so some moron can go out looking to kill them for shits and giggles. You don’t hear about the cougars either, but they’re there.
I’m pretty sure this won’t last very long. DNR’s official stance on coyote bounties in the past has been that they simply do not work. The coyote is a remarkable animal that is able to adapt quite quickly to stresses in its population or loss of food and habitat. In my opinion, this is simply a token gesture aimed at quieting public pressure on the government around this issue. Don’t worry about the coyotes, they’ll bounce back. Maybe what we should be looking at is the amount of untouched coyote (and other animal) habitat left in this province and the rate of unchecked human development into those areas. If you build a huge subdivision in the middle of the woods in NS, expect to see coyotes, deer, foxes, squirrels, bobcat, lynx, martins, bears, in other words Nova Scotian wildlife. Please don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we should do nothing about the coyote “issue”. I just don’t see how anyone who has lived in this province for any amount of time could be the least bit surprised that we are now seeing more and more of these animals. Like i said before coyotes are smart and adaptable, kinda like humans.
…and in 3 months coyotes are going to be straggling into E.R.s with suspicious gunshot wounds, refusing to co-operate with the police…
i am concerned that novice riflemen will start plugging away at anything that moves
This would be a great time to open an anvil boutique.
haha acme anvils, rocket shoes and giant magnets
I wonder why Wile E. never filed some sort of class action suit against Acme?
or a human rights tribunal?
I believe Acme has an ‘ALL SALES FINAL’ policy.
Acme just had a huge sale on rogue bedsprings so you might see them scraggy critters bouncing over the spruce trees yet.
If spruce trees are the trailer trash of the forest, TT, then coyotes would be the Melvins perhaps?
No, coyotes are smarter.
Shoot them all!!!
Gotta say, until the coyotes start packing 9s and loitering on SPG I’m gonna be more leery of the aborted crack fetuses who think they are the reincarnation of Tupac, and the Tony Montana wannabe’s riding in on the 80 than I am of the woodland critters.
its a bounty not a cull… and the problem is that the coyotes are gonna be killed in the back ass end of NS where theyre not bothering anyone while the ones around schools and residential areas will persist. so, in essence the problem isn’t solved by a cull or a bounty. I would also like to point out that a bounty is specifically the opposite of what official were advised to do.
“…bounties have never been successful in controlling coyote populations. Kansas maintained a coyote bounty for 93 years and concluded after that time that “the bounty system does not control predators or predator damage”. Similar conclusions have been reached throughout the range of the coyote, including here in Nova Scotia.” —http://www.gov.ns.ca/natr/wildlife/conserv…
Giant elastic bands – yeah, yeah, that’s the ticket.
The environmentally correct solution is this:We stock the woods of NS with roadrunners. The coyotes cull their own population trying to catch the little bastards . The government offers fiscal incentives to Acme to set up a plant here. Jobs are created. Of course Acme will bail and move to Mexico after 18 months and we’d have to bring in some kind of predator to keep the roadrunner population in line. Cane toads perhaps?
I, being considerate of my neighbors & the fact I don’t want trouble with the police, was out looking at crossbows.
Yes I thought a nice quiet crossbow bolt will take out a coyote, as effectively as a bullet & not make a sound louder than a bee buzzzing.
Then I saw the price tag for a Canadian made crossbow (one of the worlds best) & its a grand. So if any coyotes come looking for an easy meal out here in the boonies where I live, they’re in for a surprise…anyone know how you get a trappers license ? So I could get teh bounty, at 20 bucks a pop I’ll need 50+ to pay off my new toy.
more, i’ve done some bow hunting in eskisoni years back, with the then chief and his brothers.all we used was an ordinary long bow, and ordinary wood shaft arrows. this was in the days before these stupid looking compound jobs. as to a crossbow, well that hroutics(?),up truro way, have some real nice ones for about 500 bucks. or they did last year. and now you can even take crossbow test online, i passed and it cost me 60 bucks. should have my card soon. coyotes are terrible on the scott paper rd., down by the ravine, and on the other side of the lake, fron the pit on lanesville rd.,i hunt there a lot. then on the cove rd., last year, i shot 3 in about 10 minutes of each other. i just leave the fucking things where they drop, as a warning to the others in the area.happy hunting. check out n.s. hunting .com, that’s where my moose is at from 06.
L.S. Do you mean Hnatiuks ? over in Lantz ?
Yeah, they’ve got lot’s of nice stuff, but a top line crossbow with scope, capable of knocking down a moose (& since they’re now legal for deer in N.S.) I figured go big or not bother…so I went big ~:)
yeah more, that’s the name, couldn’t think of it. but yeah, there are some nice shit in there, love that big buck head there too. my buddy and i usually stop by to shoot shit when in area hunting. we also do lanes cross rd., cove rd., birchhill, meadowvale and of course, the scott rd. down the ravine and up on the hill before they cut hell out of it, there used to be a pack of coyotes, 10-15, saw a bunch chasing a big buck and fired, got 1 and the others stopped dead in their track, brought down 2 more, before they decided to fucking get away. just left them there as a message to rest of pack. listen bud, there is a guge fucking silver gray buck up there, about 18 plus pointer, he’ll have a rip down the left side of his face, fron nose to back of jaw. he also has a big chuck out of his left back hip, and a piece of his right front shoulder is gone. been after him gong on 6 years now, too fast and smart for a good shot. if you get him, left me know. i want a picture of him and you, if you get him.see ya later, going for a snooze now, was up all night.
