Carmen Townsend may have a unique voice but she can’t have “Cape Breton’s Most unique voice…” Like pregnancy, there are no degrees of “unique.” You’re one of a kind or not.

OP’s got a point… You can’t be “more unique”.
What I love are the huskies, just sitting beside her, which clearly aren’t her dogs, just to give us the idea that it’s the “dead of winter”. As if the snow and the date weren’t enough to tell us that it’s fucking cold outside.
I guess they would have put Ani DiFranco on the cover, but even she realized that the IDOW fest was a complete waste of time and canceled because of an illness (right, illness). So, put a token local hipster female-singer-songwriter on the cover to drum up support.
all i noticed were the dogs

Ah, a grammar bitch! Excellent. Some experts believe that the word has evolved beyond its original meaning:
“R. H. Copperud argues that there can be degrees of uniqueness. ‘There are so few unique things under the sun,’ he writes, ‘that generally the word is used with a qualifier. This simply extends its usefulness without diminishing its force as an absolute when used alone’ (421). The editors of The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language agree. Pointing to actual usage, especially in advertising, they say that the word unique often means ‘worthy of being considered in a class by itself,’ and if this meaning is intended, things can indeed be more or less unique.
ever notice that anyone even a little bit musically inclined from c. b., thinks that they are irish or hank snow when they get a few in them, moreso the older ones. holy fuck, they all suck.
alright Sue… carrying that line of thought, what are the hard and fast ‘rules’ for being more or less unique than someone else? rules that we can immediately identify if one is more unique than another…
Please, do explain. who is MORE unique in voice than this chick and stricktly quantitatively… why?
The problem is, if people can be less unique, than everyone is on the scale regarding uniqueness… and, as the saying goes, if every day were a sunny day than what’s a sunny day?
80’s glasses are the new ‘weird glasses that are cool’
Translation time, unique = crap
