Metro Transit is increasing fares to pay for expanding and improving service. A quarter increase in 4 years isn’t horrific.
And minimum wage was raised on May 1, 2008, is raising in April 2009, April 2010, and October 2010.
I agree with SwampDonkey, also minimum wage is not set at the Municipal Government Level anyway, get your facts together. Increases will happen for everything, only the dumbest should be surprised by this.
well aware
the point is that it is shitty
Jane– It’s WAGE, not WADGE.
Don’t forget Kelly and his comrades get an automatic increase every year, by the same rate as inflation.
Bet you wish you could get the same ‘automatic’ deal.
Actually, Metro Transit just announced that the system is operating to capacity (CBC early last week) yet has no plan in place for expansion. I figure they suffer price increases like every other industry during this recession. No, not wage increases, but cost increases.
My own power bill has increased 400% from two years ago… something has to give. May as well be the idiot Haligonians living on widening roads with raised bridge tolls to “reduce driving congestion” and having us use a hardly adequate transit system in a place where criminals are encouraged to shoot at each other and bus drivers chew on young women in the middle of the night, all of it dictated by a board of leaders who still think it’s 19-fucking-40 and couldn’t invent a green stimulus even if their careers depended on it…
(phew, sorry about that. I tend to run on where poor leadership is involved)
MT is in a fiscal hole this year. Where else is the money going to come from?
Wow, Harper’s “steady course” plan last fall seems to be a real winner. I’m just curious how far down the rabbit-hole goes. Times like these I’m really regretting taking the red pill.
I some municipalities in North America, public transit rates were decreased to $1!
$2.25 isn’t that bad…anyone have any info on pass increases? I really wish MT had u-passes for students in summer sessions 🙁
