I am starting to loose count of how many times I’ve almost been hit by a car when I have my right of away AKA the little walking man signal. Where the fuck are you going that is so important and urgent that you can’t pay attention, clearly I have time to look at my surroundings since I’ve avoided being hit numerous times. Drivers wake the hell up and get it together!!!!!!!!!! —Angry pedestrian lady throwing her hands in the air

Spike strips.
Flail all you want – they don’t care. They’ve got places to be, people to see and they needed to be there yesterday. They couldn’t care less about you or any other pedestrian who gets in their path. Halifax drivers are a toxic blend of ignorance & gas pedal stompers.
What makes you so invincible that you do not bother waiting for the road to be safe to cross and can walk onto the street at will? What makes you so entitled? Doe the world revolve around you? I don’t think so pal.
No, you don’t have the right of way until the intersection is clear of left turning vehicles. You don’t have the right of way to step off the curb just because the little man appears. Are you in such a hurry that you can’t wait the 5 seconds until the intersection is safe and clear? You wanna bully me? Go ahead, I’ll turn you into a hood ornament for the low price of $695 dollars, in the form if some stupid fine or another. And I’ll sleep just fine, as only stupid people let themselves be hit by cars over the sake of a few seconds to look around for your own safety.
that is not the problem Furious Poprah, the problem is the left hand turn arrow is long gone and people keep turning almost hitting people because they are trying to turn before the people start going straight. I 100% agree with this, police need to start ticketing in the area. I have almost been hit there as well on many runs.
Once again proof there is no such thing as a car pedestrian accident (regardless of who is at fault) that cannot be prevented…by the pedestrian.
The opposite is still not true…
So wait the 2 seconds for them to clear. You’re walking for fuck sakes, how much of a hurry can you be in? You don’t have the ability to be polite and just let them go? Everyone knows you have the right away, it doesn’t mean you have to be a complete dick about it. I know, I know, the guy in the car is being a dick about it too, but so what…why not just be the bigger person and let it slide. Seriously, what are you going to do with that 2 seconds you saved by being a dick? Either of you, pedestrian or driver. By letting it slide you would probably save the time it takes to wave your arms like an ass and exchange fingers (which you both deserve equally), but oh no, not people nowadays, we’re gonna get them back. Make them wait it out while we finger fuck the air in front of each other. This whole conversation is embarrassing. People identifying as “pedestrians”, “cyclist”, “drivers” and all sub sections in between.
Fucking people these days, always so worried that someone is encroaching on your God given right to do everything…NOW!!!!! You all need to shut the fuck up and live your damn lives without all the misplaced anger.
@Gonuts-The problem is far too many stupid people in this city. I thought North End Dartmouth was full of retards but then i crossed the bridge hahaha!
There i solved your mystery.
I am with Furious on this bitch and that is why I also have never been hit or almost hit by any cars in my entire life. Been to many cities and Montreal’s cross walk rule is pretty good one.
Not so much here in Entitled J-walking and invincible walking Halifucks.
Valid bitch. I walk this intersection every day and agree, it is dangerous! Cars southbound on South Park all run the left turn signal. You’ll see them enter the intersection even after it’s been yellow for a few seconds.
That would be bad enough, but then the intersection itself is really poorly designed. The distance for a car to go to get through is probably double that of a normal intersection. So by the time these light runners get through, the walking man has already been up for a few seconds. It’s pretty much guaranteed conflict.
The city needs to get rid of that half-baked slip lane on Sackville and bump out the north-east sidewalk to square off the corner. Seems like it would be easy enough to do when they reinstate the area around the YMCA construction.
An old police officer I know had a saying. Better to be right, than dead right. This day and age people confuse right of way with their “rights”. Listen here, you have the right of way simply because they needed to have that in verbiage for insurance reasons in the event a pedestrian is/was struck. That’s the plain and simple truth. The onus on the pedestrian in the transaction is that they proceed with CAUTION across a roadway. If you are able to write the bitch and express your concern about how you almost got hit, then that’s a good thing, keep being diligent on your end and it will continue and allow you to keep talking about your right of way as if it’s a safety bubble and one of your “rights” set out by the Charter of rights and freedoms.
