There are some “cool” cats in this city who give off this feeling of being “too cool for school,” and somewhat alienating, and I hear people complain of how “cold” some events and bars can be because of these “cool” cats. I want to tell those people who complain to warm up, no one really thinks they’re that cool, but even I feel that way sometimes: why aren’t I as cool as them? Is “coolness” all about perception? Why is Halifax so cliquey? —Ice “Dogs”

  1. Whatever, while you’re out meeting friendly outgoing people worth meeting, they will still be losers sitting by themselves being “ironic”. When they grow up and shed their skinny jeans and negative attitudes, they’ll realize they aren’t quite as cool as they thought they were. Fuckem OB, they are t worth your or anyone elses time!!

  2. These are the little brats who exuded the same “cool” factor from junior high – that never grew up OP – lol. Just ignore them. Stick them in the Lower East Side and they’d stick out like a sore thumb trust me. They wouldn’t know cool is more than black horn-rimmed glasses, tight jeans, and an “ironic” t-shirt – and most likely will never get it!

  3. Sounds like a boring crowd to me OP, go and find some people who are fun! You are awesome and don’t let the few “cool” people ruin your veiw of this awesome city- there are lots of great people out there!Go find them and have fun! 🙂

  4. it’s not being cool, cold, it is being cool, in the groove. some people are born that way, others have to tag along on our coat strings. just sayin’.

  5. “You think you’re too cool for school, Hansel. Well you know something? You aren’t.” Also, “They’re breakdance fighting!”

  6. Here’s a rule of thumb for HRM: for any given clique you’ve got the handful of folks who actually belong to it…usually by self-nomination. Maybe a dozen or two. Then you’ve got the groupies and wannabees who also buy into the idea that there is such a clique, maybe another few dozen people, who knows? Then you’ve got a bunch of other folks, like yourself, who are aware that there is such a clique, aren’t in it nor are they hangers-on…depending on the nature of the scene that this clique occupies (bars, schools, whatever) there may be a few hundred folks like that.

Then there’s the other 99.9 percent of the HRM population who don’t have the first f**king clue that any of you exist, let alone that there’s a clique. That may help put things into perspective.
