This is to the construction crew that has been working on my street for the past few MONTHS. I don’t know what is taking you so long to get the job done. From what I can tell hardly anything has changed besides creating an eyesore out of a building that was once beautiful.

It is nice that you get to work early and wake me and everyone else on the street up with your saws and yelling, it would be even nicer if this didn’t happen at 7am every weekend.

I can understand and accept all of that. What I don’t understand is how you all think it’s appropriate to stare and yell and every female that walks by. I can hear what you are saying about them from inside of my apartment. Thanks perverts, you have made it an uncomfortable experience every time myself, my roommates, and probably every other girl on the block leaves their home. —Eye Candy

  1. Construction workers work long hours with nothing but men to look at. They get excited when women walk by, it’s natural and has been happening since the dawn of time. Yoga pants and Jennifer Lopez tops just make it too hard for primitive man to lift his jaw off the ground. I think the reason it is more of an issue here is that summer only lasts 2 months here. So legs are only visible for 2 months and they want to enjoy it while it lasts, before the winter Burqa’s (snow suits) come back on.

  2. yeah but o.p., if they didn’t do it, then you would bitch about a derelict building there. fuck sakes, with some of you assholes, a person just can’t win.
i hope they read this and make more noise, or just stop work there, just to piss you off more. get a fucking little bit of a life, willya.

  3. Well Tootsie Roll, be pleased they are paying attention because in a few short years someone younger, prettier, and tighter will take your place and your day will be made when some hammer head ogles you as you waddle past their site.

  4. Don’t matter what I wear I don’t want catcalls. I don’t care if I age and look like shit someday, I am not oh so appreciative that you took the time out of your busy day to notice me – get over yourself.
Girl you need to call the construction office and lay down an official complaint if you are seriously offended. Sexual Harassment is sexual harassment – no matter how you look at it. If you are that uncomfortable take your street back! My Uncle is an engineer for a construction company in Halifax and finds it odd that they begin so early on a weekend, usually companies try to give their courtesy when they can to those around and begin somewhere around 9 on the weekends, so if you call I may ask that as well.
But either way they are on a work site, so this behavior is absolutely not acceptable. It’s not like you would see tellers in a bank catcalling at the people standing in line. They would be fired so fast it would make their head spin! In the workplace there are certain expectations that you are required to follow, such as a no sexual harassment policy. I do not see the difference here at all.

  5. These are primitive men Justtolove. They swing hammers and cut wood for a living. They haven’t evolved from the caveman days in the way you would like them to. They are at a work site just like Fred Flintstone was, back in the day. You can control ones behaviour to a certain extent in an office building, but outside, you are on your own. Cover up and the calls won’t be so loud. Most women wear clothes today that they could be paid to wear in a Mens Establishment, and they do it for free. Men are Men, they won’t change.

  6. Hence why the slut walk is going to happen in Halifax. Blaming this on what a woman is wearing is insulting – the problem is the construction workers – and the postee has not even stated what these girls are even wearing… assumption only makes an ass out of you and me.
I understand what you are saying, however this is not a primitive society – they all signed job agreements, including something that would relate to a sexual harassment policy. I don’t care what they do, we have to stop making excuses for their behavior. Is what they are doing wrong? Yes! Workplaces have rules and laws to follow, someone on that site needs to put their workers in their place and remind of the papers they all signed for the job.

  7. OB, find a good looking tranny, get him to really ‘work it’ as he goes past the site, maybe do a little dance for the workers or something, and when they are all getting into it, he pops the supprise. Remember to film all of it so you can show the vids to the wives.

  8. “sexual harrassment”?
    “take your street back”?

I’m sure rape victims appreciate having their physical violation equated with some arseholes wolfwhistling at pretty girls from across the street.
    Get. The. Fuck. Over. Yourselves.

  9. Thanks. Gotta love the cassowary. Probably the most dangerous bird in the world. A number of dogs and people have been killed by them. They have a claw on their feet that slices and when they kick, and they can kick, some serious damage is inflicted.

  10. It isn’t just Bob Bakker these days, Ivan. The therapod dinosaur to bird evolutionary track has gained support from the majority of paleontologists. Most of these dinosaurs were probably warm-blooded and certainly were hollow-boned and feathered, so it ain’t a stretch.

  11. Very cool. The only remotely good thing about the otherwise execrable Lost World (JP2) was the Bakker character getting chomped by a T-Rex at the waterfall. Bakker supposedly loved the “tribute”.

  12. Wheels I’m not sure what you think the definition of sexual harassment is – – however the kind of assault you are referring to is sexual assault… what these boys are doing is harassment (unwanted sexual remarks or advancements). I can promise you that while you may see this as just a use of words many women do not, it is serious – from personal experience I can promise you that is extremely uncomfortable and depending on the situation you can get to the point of being scared to go near said person(s). All I am suggesting if the person is feeling that uncomfortable there are avenues to go through to make it stop.

  13. I guess I just don’t understand because I’m not a girl, or minority that people would often stare at, or make comments toward.
    Is that it?

  14. They’re males, the humans walking by are females… what COULD be more appropriate? Just playin’ the Devil’s Advocate now that I am finally back online 😀

  15. i have a shipment for you bitch, but it’s t’home, we missed you at the loud family round table

  16. I agree with the OP, the workers should keep their comments to themselves. Imagine cops, letter carriers or taxi drivers making cat calls to ladies as they walk by. I think there would be complaints out the ying yang. IMO.

  17. Making comments to women walking by and being sexually harassed are….

    Well, different.

I had an experience with workplace sexual harassment that bordered on stalking in 2006 when I was living in Ontario. It was a nightmare, and being whistled and commented on while walking down the street doesn’t even fucking compare. I worked in a gigantic office building, yet this guy found out who I was, looked up where my cubicle was and started visiting me daily. I worked on the 7th floor, he worked in the basement with no excuse to come up to my floor. Once he started touching my neck and trying to give me ‘massages’ I had to go to my manager about it. That did the trick, but I *still* had to modify my activities and take a different route to my desk and skip going to the caff at lunch because he’d follow me there. I also had to stop working late to bank time because I was so freaked out about leaving the building after hours. So I ended up taking unpaid time off when my mom came to visit.

THAT is sexual harassment. Being whistled at by a bunch of construction guys pales in comparison.

So as someone who’s actually experienced a form of sexual harassment, I fully agree with Wheelie.

  18. Thanks PK.
I’ve been traumatized by something, and while I don’t think I was sexually abused in my life(though my ex wife believes a dream I had once was really a memory- but I digress, let me egress, watercress!!!), my concern is being too sensitive about a bunch of construction guys being construction guys.
If being stared at is harrassment, then I am harrassed every day.

  19. I was in your neck of the woods on Saturday, PG, but it never occurred to me to drop by.

  20. We should try for a Round Table 2.0 for this Sunday, just in case I decide to permanently defect to Upper Canada. *poit* (For all those who missed the last one)
