  1. because there is protocol to be followed, to ensure that flagmen, workers, and idiots like you dont die driving past construction sites.a family member of mine used to work, holding the stop/slow sign. they have to be licensed to do that (and dont want to lose the license by letting you go by sooner). they have to check via the two-way radio, AND visually to make sure the person at the other side is doing the same, and no one is caught in between.people like you have almost hit that aforementioned family member with their cars (sometimes on purpose, he had to jump out of the way while the driver was staring him down), and physically assaulted him by getting out of their cars, and swinging at him from behind and having to be subduied by fellow workers..you cant go, so you dont kill someone. just because you dont see someone coming your way, does not mean there is no one coming. vehicles can be turning out of the construction site, there might be a school bus approaching from the other side, gazillions of possibilities could be happenning.and fuck you buddy, you dont know those people, how can you tell they are power hungry? does not wanting to lose their jobs just because you are oh so fucking inconvenienced make them power hungry?i hope you short temperness will cause you to swerve out on a STOP signal, and hit an 18 wheeler head on. just to pay for your (a) stupidity (b) ignorance and (c) foul mouthness.you cant be SERIOUSLY complaining that you have to wait. i mean, a 9 year old would have more common sense, than to complain about having to wait while they are fixing roads (lemme guess, in the winter you complain about potholes?).fuck you buddy. or should i call you ‘insecure little whiny bitch who does not understand the concepts of courtesy, common good, safety, and following rules’?

  2. I agree, people shouldn’t be getting so worked up about short wait times. And people DEFINATLY shouldn’t be endangering workers safety. But what about those places where you literally get stopped for 30 minutes? (happened to me this morning). surely there can be a better system so everyone is inconvienced a little bit, and no one is half an hour late for work because they got trapped in construction hell?not to mention the repercussions of that much idleing…..

  3. Two Points there grindcore. 2. The OP never mentioned anything about plowing through and hurting the flagger. He sounded like he was impatient but still waited patiently.2. Its more of a certificate then a license. I had it for a short period.Chill, OP was probablly late for an important date and this annoyance set him off. To his credit instead of releasing his frustruation on the flagger, he released it on here. THIS should get your applause Grindy, not your wrath. For shame! 🙂

  4. Even though it can take the govt months/years to fix a pothole, I note that every construction site this week has new signs proclaiming that fines are doubled in work zones. Only the cynical would suspect that the authorities will use that law to harvest even more revenue from the unsuspecting public. As for the OP’s points, one can only agree. Most of the sign-toters seem to spend their days smoking cigarettes and guzzling Timmies while holding up traffic, and certainly a little bit of power is intoxicating for anyone who has made that a career choice.

  5. The people that piss and moan about waiting for a few minutes are the same people that bitch and fucking moan about the god damn potholes. So pick your fucking battle…do you want to wait a few minutes in your nice air conditioned car to get the potholes fixed OR do you want to wait a day or two while your car is in the shop getting fixed because your impatient ass was speeding over the potholes and fucked up your car…something to ponder when your waiting next time.

  6. Keith I think the fines should be TRIPLED in work areas if you are caught speeding, and the police should set up shop Juuuuusssst in the right spot, and catch those people…yeah, I tend to speed, I cant lie, I try to keep it at an even TEN over the limit, but not if I see road work, i’ll slow down BELOW the limit… Could you imagin standing there while someone is FLYING by you while you are trying to do your job? There is NO need!! Enough people have died, and it needs to stop … Hand out more tickets coppers, those potholes arent gonna pay for them selves!!

  7. By the way, you don’t legally have to stop. The signs they hold meet two of the three legal requirements of stop signs. A stop sign has to be a permanent fixture. I learned this from my flagging “License” (certificate)AHHHH BEACH BALLL!!!

  8. right, no one should speed through construction zones. But same token SOMEONE should be trying to keep a flow going. I got trapped AGAIN this morning at one of these, waitied over 20 minutes to get to go. that’s a little excessive- that’s losing a certain amount of time in the morning that bosses are going to notice. and it’s not like you can avoid these all the time- they seem to just pop up out of nowhere this time of year, and often by the time I see them (damn curvy ns roads!) it’s too late to find an alternate route….

  9. The problem with the doubling of fines in work zones is the inordinate number of times youy see a work zone signed but no work going on nor any sign that anything has ever gone on. In other words, a phantom work zone. That would e a fine way to jack up the revenue tally. And BTW, those guardians of safety ought to be a little more careful themselves. I just saw a “Safety First” truck loaded with cones and signs running full throttle through a residential street. But it wasn’t a work zone, so I guess that’s OK.
